February 2012 — "The Milesstones Grill and Bar we visited was the one located at Centre St. and Stephen Ave in the heart of downtown Calgary. It is literally just a few steps away from the Calgary town so it's a good meeting spot for friends who are not familiar with downtown. It had been a while since I visited a Milestones so I was surprised to see their abundant selection of items on the lunch menu. There was a great selection of starters, salads, and nice variety of entrees that is was hard to pick just one. The price ranges from $10 to as much as $30 dish if you're looking for a fine piece of steak. I decided on the Kobe beef meatloaf and it did not disappoint. The portions were a little more than I could handle even. There is also a big patio outside the Stephen Ave location in the summer time and it's great for grabbing a cold drink on a hot day."

"Great atmosphere "

December 2011 — "We went for a late dinner with some good friends of ours and were very happy we chose Milestones at Southcentre Mall. The first thing you notice upon entry is the beautiful decor. It is very modern and very striking! We were seated right away and our service was great the whole way through our meal. For an appetizer, we ordered the Deep Fried Risotto and Goat Cheese Balls. They are exactly what they sound like! They are deep fried balls filled with goat cheese and risotto. I definitely recommend them. For my main, I had the Portabello Mushroom Chicken which was served with a side of angel hair pasta and fresh steamed veggies. The pasta was quite plain, but other than that, the meal was fantastic. The portions were really large and definitely worth the price. I loved the meal we had at Milestones. Great service paired with great food and a funky atmosphere makes for a great experience. I will be back! "

"Good prompt service and eventful"

October 2011 — "I had a nice lunch with a few colleagues from my company at Milestones on Stephen Ave today. It was quite eventful. I had a grilled sirloin whereas the rest of my party all ate sandwiches, burgers or salads. I was in for a bigger meal I guess. The cut of steak was not that great, it was top sirloin but the texture is very chewy. I did not enjoy it at all. Since I was with my colleagues, I didn't want to cause any scene, so I just left the issue as is. I didn't mention it to my server. I finished the entire piece of steak then I started on my side salad... who knew I was in for a surprise. I found a strand of hair in my salad. It was not pleasant that is for sure. I couldn't take it any more so I waited until the server came to pick up our plates. she asked me whether I was finished with the salad since it appeared untouched. I said to her, yes I am because there is a piece of hair inside the salad. She apologized and came back to tell me that hair in food is not their style, they will take care of my meal for me. Because of the surprise I found in my salad, my lunch turned out to be free. I am not sure whether to be happy or not. Steak wasn't even good."

"Good Sandwiches, Expensive Drinks"

October 2011 — "A friend and I grabbed lunch at Milestones last Sunday. Frankly, our arrival there had less to do with wanting to try their menu, and more to do with the sparse dining options available on Stephen Avenue on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the beef dip with fries along with a pint. The sandwich was quite good, as the beef was almost minced creating a very interesting almost loose-meat type texture, all of which was placed in a ciabatta bun rather than a traditional baguette. The au jus was nice and salty and made a great dipping option for the sandwich as well as the dip. The drink options here were surprisingly expensive. My pint came in at $7, which was surprising considering how many restaurants and pubs offer special pricing for drinks on a Sunday. Our server was very good. When I asked if we could get a football game on one of the televisions, he changed channels without hesitation, and made sure our table was well bussed."

June 2011 — "My co-workers and I like to do lunch on Fridays and since the weather has been nice we decided it might be worthwhile trying a patio. We all agreed on Milestones and because we arrived just before noon had no troubles finding a spot. The patio was well maintained, very clean and perfect for a sunny lunch spot. We ordered delicious bellinis and got down to picking out our food. One of the girls I was with is a celiac and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a whole gluten free section, including gluten free buns so she could still enjoy a burger. We were all pleased with the options available to us and although they tasted pretty good the time it took for us to finally received anything we ordered was a wee bit too long. Our 1 hour lunch actually turned into about 1 hour and 20 minutes which is fine as our schedules weren't overly packed today but still somewhat unacceptable. "

"Decent Experience"

February 2011 — "I usually avoid going downtown at night, even though I know there are a lot of good restaurants down there. However, on one Friday night I decided to do something a little out of the norm. My wife and I headed to Milestone's downtown in the Marriott. I have been to other Milestones countless times, but had only been to this one for a pre-Christmas party drink. It was very busy when we were there, but we got a nice table in the back. Our server took our order very quickly and returned with our drinks. To start we had the risotto balls, which were very delicious. They are on their seasonal menu and I hope they put them on their regular menu. They were stuffed with mushrooms and goat cheese and covered in some kind of tomato sauce. For my main I had the sirloin steak with mushroom gorgonzola marsala sauce which came with a caesar salad to start. The salad had way too much dressing on it, but it still tasted pretty good. The steak was ok, but was very salty. It came with potatoes and broccolinni, both of which were pretty bland. I was surprised because I usually love Milestones. Everything tasted okay, but it wasn't amazing. The prices weren't bad though because it was $27 for steak and salad which is pretty typical for a steak in a chain restaurant. The service was very good though, so that made up for the ok food."

December 2010 — "I'm having a hard time deciding what was better about Milestones; was it the food, or was it the service? They were both incredible. I went for lunch with my girlfriend and must say that Milestones is impressive to say the least. Our Bruschetta flatbread appetizer came with 6 wedges of flatbread with a pesto base, then fresh basil, tomatoes, garlic and plenty of feta cheese. For my main, I had a special they are offering which was the top sirloin steak topped with crab, tiger shrimp and lobster butter. My steak was cooked perfectly, and was served with garlic mashed potatoes and brocollini. Everything was delicious. I definitely recommend having a steak if you are Milestones! Although we were extremely full, we decided to share dessert. We chose "The Cookie", which was a huge, warm, freshly baked chocolate cookie topped with a scoop of vanilla gelato. What a perfect end to a perfect meal. Our server was friendly, accommodating and great at her job. We were well taken care of and left very satisfied. We will definitely go back. "

December 2010 — "I had a gift certificate for Milestones and had never been there or heard anything about their food whatsoever. My boyfriend showed up downtown to take me out for a surprise lunch so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to go! I was extremely impressed with every aspect of the experience. The restaurant itself is beautifully and tastefully decorated with low, comfortable lighting and privately sectioned dining areas. Our server was very personable, and although she was very busy, she did a great job of ensuring our meal was perfect. One of our starters was the Asian chicken bites, which were big chunks of chicken breast deep fried and coated in a sweet chili sauce. The portion was very generous for an appetizer! My main course was the portobello mushroom chicken with fresh basil and a cream sauce served on pasta. WOW! I was so full that I had to take half of my food home. The bill was very reasonable and with the help of the gift certificate, we left very pleased. I recommend Milestones for a dinner or lunch date, or for any other occasion with friends or family. The food is great and they treat you like family! Awesome place!"

"Market Mall Location"

Save Review

August 2010 — "When shopping at Market Mall recently, we decided to grab a bite to eat and were surprised to see that a Milestone's had opened there! We had not been to Market Mall in awhile I guess. It has a really nice open layout and we had no trouble getting a table on this particular Wednesday night. Our server greeted us right away and we were offered the regular menu or a date night menu, which allowed you to share an appetizer with your date, and then you each pick an entree and then you share a select dessert, all for $50. I have nut and shellfish allergies and a lot of the stuff on there would be risky, so we chose to order from the regular dinner menu. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip and when I mentioned my allergies, the server asked if I'd mind if it came with naan bread instead since they make the tortilla chips in the deep fryer there and they could be contaminated with the shellfish they deep fry. I was very impressed that they even mentioned this, and could see they took allergies seriously. The dip by the way was delicious and naan bread is up high on my list of favourite things so I was more than pleased with the change. For my entree I decided to try the gluten-free brown rice spaghettini, just for the sake of trying to be healthy, so I got the tomato basil spaghettini and added chicken. Surprisingly, it was delicious! The whole experience that evening at Milestone's was very good and I will definitely be back to the Market Mall location."

"Nice decor but long wait"
Image

Save Review

June 2010 — "If you're planning to go to the Milestones in market mall. It's definitely worth the wait. The decor is very nice and the food is not bad at all. But it's long wait. If you want to be able to start eating at 6pm. You probably want to be there no later than 5:15. There's always a line to get in and even after you get in there's another wait for your waiter/waitress to get your drinks first then another wait to take your order. I'd suggest going on a weeknight so it's not so packed there. But if you get there early and not in hurry, Milestones would be a very nice place to just sit down and have a chat. It's a little pricey compared to similar places that you usually find in Mall or Hotels, but Milestones is one of the nicer ones. There menus has a big enough selection for everything and besides a little slow the service is good as well. "

March 2010 — "Went to a business lunch at Milestone’s located on Stephen Avenue in downtown Calgary. I ordered the special of the day which was a NY strip steak with crab, however when we ordered they advised that they had run out of the crab but were substituting 6 shrimps instead. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came that way, served with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. They also provided a choice of Caesar or garden salad. I chose the garden salad and it was very large with red onion, carrots, cabbage, iceberg lettuce, spinach leaves and spicy candied pecans. It was delicious. I found my steak to be a tad on the tough side, but know that when you order a steak it can be hit or miss. For dessert I ordered Butterscotch Pot de Crème which was rich and delicious. The atmosphere was very casual and the service was good."

November 2009 — "The setting wasn't the best as you're in a market mall, but the food was still good. The service was also really good. I had the California Burger and it was fantastic. It surprised me as I wasn't expecting much. It may even be one the the best burgers I've had in Calgary. This may be because I love guacamole and if you put it on anything I'll love it. My friend had the butternut squash raviolis and I tasted them and they were pretty good also. A Milestone of a Haiku: Burger from this place? Wow! Holy guacamole! This burger is great! "

"Meh..."

August 2009 — "My coworkers & I decided to grab a drink after work at Milestones one Friday evening... All seemed decent at the start, I did arrive a bit later than my coworkers as I was held behind at the office... I ordered one drink, and then had to jet (other plans). I whipped out my credit card and handed it to our waitress, requesting to pay with Mastercard. She said that was not possible, since my party didn't request separate bills. Since when is this not possible at a bar? I have had it done before... My coworker (who planned this event), called the manager over, and asked if we are not allowed to pay separately for a party of 10. He said "no, of course you can; let me grab your waitress and I will remind her our policy." She came back within 5 minutes, and gave us total attitude, advising us "just so you know, you need to ask for separate bills when you first arrive; it is far too difficult for us waitresses to divy it up at the end..." I have utmost patience and respect for customer service jobs (I work in Customer Service myself...), but that isn't my job to tell the server how to do his/ her job. Then to get attitude on top of it is a major turn-off. I won't go back to Milestones in the near future. I've never been too impressed with their customer service (or lack thereof)."

"A meal at Milestone's "

July 2009 — "A Chain of these have shuffled around the city of Calgary and a friend and I decided on meeting at their newest chain in Market Mall. Of Course, it was around Stampede time, so the Cowboy/Western decorum was just a short-term thing. Beyond the waitress attire, the ambiance was very nice and family catering. The waiter was very friendly, although possibly a bit too eager, coming to ask how our meal was going 4 to 5 times, which was a little excessive for my liking. The lunch menu has a pretty good selection and good value for your dollar. The Beef Dip sandwich I ordered was too big for me to finish in one sitting, but it may have been because I was too busy with my yam fries. Very good. The value promo was the soup and sandwich for about $12. Not bad, but the soup was a bit too salty for my friend. Among some of the bigger chains, I would take Milestone’s any day. "

"Nice place to lounge!"

July 2009 — "I decided to take my friend out to Milestone for his b-day. The decor of the restaurant is modern and similar to that of a Moxie but more upscale in my opinion. For starters, we ordered their Yummy Yam Frites. They tasted like regular yam fries minus the sogginess. Nothing really special. For entrees, we ordered the Sirloin with Shrimp and Scallop Brochette and the Portobello Mushroom Chicken. We were going to have these two dishes to share and the great thing about Milestone is that they will offer to split these two dishes to share for you. They maintain the presentation of these two dishes even when split. Not many restaurants do that! The Portebella Mushroom Chicken was served on capellini. It's a nice and light meal for those who are a big fan of mushrooms! I would definitley order this dish again. However, for the Sirloin with Shrimp and Scallop Brochette, I found the meat to be quite tough despite the fact that we ordered medium rare in which it came out looking like medium. Other than that, the meal was pretty good and filling. It was that filling that we didn't have room for dessert! I guess we'll have to head back next time to give those a try. "

June 2008 — "I went to Milestones for the first time at Market Mall. When I walked in I thought the decor was great. Very modern and sleek looking. However, I was disappointed with the service. The waiter gave us about 15 minutes to look over the menu and decide what we wanted. When he came back to take our order he listed off all the dishes they currently didn't have available, which was one of the ones I had chosen. It would have been nice if he had told us what dishes weren't available as soon as he handed us the menus. Apart from the wait, I found the food quite tasty. "

June 2008 — "Party of 5 had to wait a hour and a half at 7 pm on a friday, Once we got seated they put 5 people into a 4 person booth and when we requested a chair they put it right smack dab in the middle of the walkway posing a major fire hazard. The dident offer to move us to another avaliable place till after getting sick having people walk and bump into the chair we asked to be moved but had stand up for like 5 mins before anyone asked if we needed any help. Once we got to the new seat they gave us drinks. 3 of the 5 cups smelled like bleach and sweat from not being dried off properly. 50 mins later the food came. out of the 5 dishes, the steak was overcooked both burgers were charcoal black on the outside causing a stomach ache and the half chicken meal that came with a jalapeno cornbread came with a pieces of toast(which would of been fine if they had just told me at the start that they ran out, rather than just changing it and hoping they we would not notice). Personally I had a horrible time there and I wont be going back ever again, but that just my 2 cents."

"Cool Cuisine, Edgy Environment, People-watching Patio"

November 2007 — "For a dining experience in the city centre, Milestone's offers a great, contemporary environment and a menu of stylish dishes and drinks. I've eaten at Milestone's a couple of times - once in summer when they have outdoor seating and a couple of times for dinner. On every occasion, we've had great service (...and flattery...a young male waiter continually addressing us as 'girls') and the food and drinks have always been yummy. While the semi-casual ambiance is stylish and fun, I think Milestone's is best enjoyed in summer when guests can relax and dine outside while people-watching on Stephen Avenue. "

July 2007 — "I frequent the Milestones on Stephen Avenue and the one at South Centre on occasion and overall have had pleasant dining experiences at both. My most recent visit to Milestones was the south location and I have to say, it was a good time. Our server was attentive, our appetizer (the goat cheese & salsa & roasted garlic plate), was amazing. I almost always opt for the red curry chicken bowl, which is very delicious. My husband got the American burger and had no complaints. We sat in the lounge, as there was a wait for a table in the dining room, and were impressed at the speed in which our drinks came. Although Milestones is a bit expensive for a chain restaurant, it was well worth it and we'll definitely go back again."

October 2006 — "Milestones is the originator of the Bellini and it's my favorite drink. I've had them at other places and they just don't compare. Thank God I got my Bellini right away when we sat down at 5:30 because we had to wait over 1 hour before we got the food we ordered and it was slightly bizzy but not to the point of having to wait more than an hour for your food. My Bellini was practically gone by the time I got my dinner but it was well worth the wait for the Gorganzolla Fries which are to die for, they're so good! The Calfornia Burger that I ordered with a side of ceasar salad was also delicious. The waiter was not very nice and wouldn't be able to spell the words "customer service" if his life depended on it. His idea of enticing us with dessert was to quickly flap the menu at us and then walk away without us being able to even look at the menu. If you want courteous and efficient service this may not be the greatest restaurant to go to but the food is excellent and if you have the patience it is well worth the wait."

October 2006 — "Overall, I enjoy dining at Milestones but this time around the service was very poor. We had to wait over an hour for dinner and our server was very unhelpful. When asked if we were interested in desert, he simply flashed the menu and didn't ask if we wanted anything else. I asked to make a substitution, a baked potato instead of mashed, and I was told they couldn't accommodate my request. On a positive note, our meals and drinks were very good, I had an Angus Beef steak with seasonal vegetables, very moist and flavourful and I enjoy the contemporary atmosphere. "
