March 2007 — "such as dinner. The bar/lounge has a wonderful ambience, as far as cocktails are concerned. The dark, sexy atmosphere is perfect for intimate encounters, and we will return for that, but, we would highly recommend dinner elsewhere. If you do decide to have dinner here, avoid the bouillabaisse like the plague. It came with a total of 3 mussels (come on - mussels are NOT pricey), a small piece of indescript fish, a couple of shriveled scallops (definitely not Digby), in a broth of overly spiced tomato JUICE, to the point where the powerful and provocative Zinfandel we ordered was completely obliterated. So, in retrospect, the $290 price tag (includes 1 cocktail each, 1 bottle of wine, dinner, dessert, and tip) was no where near justified. Go for drinks - maybe an appetizer (but don't have high expectations) - but definitely not dinner. Oh - we might add that the bar service (we ate at the bar)was nice - pleasant, witty - not obtrusive - and occasionally fun. It was one of those rare moments when there was the right amount of interaction and it seemed as if the servers may have paid attention to when we were deep in conversation and not disturbed us until a suitable moment!! November 2006 — "Having passed this establishment many time before, and hearing good things from my friends, I decided to take my girlfriend here for a nice romantic night out, and right from the start, this restaurant impressed me in every way. The atmosphere seemed rich and sensual, very inviting, and well complemented with the dark, cherry-wood furniture and stone walls. For an avenue renowned for it's bars and clubs (most of which are unsavoury, to say the least), I was shocked to find such an up-scale location in plain sight. I would not recommend wearing anything less than a shirt and tie.
From the get-go, service was prompt, and very friendly. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy their work, and do an excellent job as well.
We first ordered some drinks. I ordered a dry martini, and was offered the choice of Bombay sapphire or tanqueray gin, (both excellent quality gin's, which speaks of the quality of the bar itself). I watched the bartender make the drink as I tend to do, and to my surprise he made it like a martini is SUPPOSED to be made; Stirred (you shouldn't shake martini's, or any clear drink for that matter). I have yet to visit any other bar where the bartender truly knows what he is doing, and again this is a testament to the quality of staff at this location.
For food I ordered the Tiger Prawn Tagliatelle , a pasta with tiger prawns and red curry. As a big fan of both red and yellow curry, I found this dish to be just right, with lost of flavour and just enough heat. The only complaint I had was that the prawns still had their tails attached, but this was hardly a problem.
It was about halfway through dinner that my opinion of the restaurant was firmly established, when a cheerful old fellow began to sing and play the grand piano at the center of the eating area. Not only did he play incredibly well, but the addition of live music made the experience even more electric.
As for cost, the two of us with dinner, dessert, drinks, and tips, cost about $80, which, when you factor in the atmosphere and fantastic service, is an extremely righteous price.
I normally hate giving a perfect score to anything, but this restaurant earned it! I could not have asked for anything more, and will return many many times, as well as recommend it to all of my friends. "
