"Good selection and 30% off sushi boats after 5pm"

October 2010 — "I stopped into Sumo lounge with a friend in Eau Claire market after seeing a huge sign advertising their 30% off sushi boats after 5pm. This was my first visit to the restaurant and I figured it probably wouldn't be too busy inside if they have to offer such a big discount during dinner time. I was right. There was only one other customer. The restaurant isn't too big but it's very nicely decorated. We went ahead and ordered one of the sushi boats. Overall, it wasn't bad. The portions were good and it looked very appetizing. The service was good as well and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. They had a very extensive menu so I would like to go back and try out other items. It wasn't the best sushi but the discount makes up for it and the location is very convenient. It's worth a visit."

"Good Sushi in a Mall"

Save Review

November 2009 — "Although not a huge sushi lover, I found myself seated at Sumo Lounge in Sunridge Mall one evening for dinner. It’s a newly style and nicely renovated restaurant that is worth a visit. Prices here were pretty decent. Most of my party ordered and shared some sushi combo platters and they were all relatively impressed with quality. We were just apprehensive on the quality of food with it being located in a Mall. I ordered the Pork Katsu Don and it was very good as well. Good sized portion and the pork was crispy and fresh. So even if you don’t like the actual sushi, they offer a good assortment of grilled items like the Teriyaki Beef, Teriyaki Chicken, Gyoza’s, Tempura and even Udon noodle soups. Service was above average as well as I noticed our drinks were consistently refilled without having to ask. With it being located in mall is actually quite convienant. Plenty of parking and a good chance to walk off the meal afterwards."

"Best all you can eat sushi in Calgary"
Image

Save Review

August 2009 — "Sumo on 10th ave is definitely the number 1 choice for all you can eat sushi for me and my group of friends. We've tried out just about every single all you can you eat in Calgary but Sumo is the one we always end up going back to. The fish is always fresh and tasty. The rolls and sushi aren't skimpy. They give you a good portion, whereas many other place would pack on rice in an attempt to fill you up faster. This restaurant is a fair size and has a good number of booths and tables. The restaurant is quite dim but nicely decorated and in good condition. The service is not too bad. Usually you get great service for your first or second call but the waitress is unlikely to come back after that. You have to really try to get their attention. Overall, the food is great and I highly recommend this restaurant."

"Loved the All-you-can-eat deal!"

November 2007 — "My husband and I went to this restaurant for the All-you-can-eat supper at Sumo Lounge. This was the second time we had been there and it was just as good as the first. We arrived there about 6:00 p.m. and had no problem getting seats at the island sushi bar, where dishes of sushi go around on little boats and you take whichever ones appeal to you. When you go for the All-you-can-eat deal, you can also order items off a menu which has basic Japanese dishes such as Teriyaki chicken, spring rolls, Shrimp or Vegetable Tempura, Miso soup, House green salad, and any of the sushi-type dishes that are floating around in front of you. Also, if you really just love one particular type of sushi but they don't have any floating by at the time, you can just tell your waitress and she will tell the chef and then bring them to you as soon as they are made. Meantime, you can take anything that floats by that you want to eat, which made it easy to try some things we had never had before. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is now my all-time favourite Japanese restaurant, because it's effectively like an all-you-can-eat buffet with good Japanese food. Cost is $23.99 per person and starts at 5:00 p.m. each day."

"What Happened????"

November 2006 — "We were at Sumo Lounge ( 4 of us ) for my Birthday Party. We have been going to Sumo for many years and founf it very good, but the other night something happened and I don't know what. 6:00 pm and 95% of the boats at the sushi bar were empty and the chef's were making no attempt to put any food on them. They finally put some food on the boats and at 7:00 pm they all left the prep area. No more food, they came back some time later and very slowly started to make more. By this time I had payed the bill and we were getting ready to leave. Some how for a bill of well over $100.00 I expected more food and service. What has happened at Sumo? Do they no longer care? What has happened??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????"

"All You Can Eat"

January 2006 — "If you're a sushi fanatic, this place offers all-you-can-eat sushi boats for around $25 on weekends (which includes stuff like salad, teriyaki chicken and beef, noodle dishes, tempura, etc., but drinks are extra). It's a pretty good deal for people who can pack it away. But if it's busy, the good plates go pretty fast and the chefs tend to take their time in making them again. "
