November 2011 — "I really liked everything about this burger joint. The restaurant has a retro vibe and old arcade games (must go back to play those!) The service was great, the food was excellent. I ordered Fay's Burger, onion rings and a milkshake. The onion rings are some of the best I have ever had. The burger was good, the only thing I would add, is that next time I would double the beef patty. The beef patty was a little on the slim size for the size of the bun. Overall a great experience, and a cool place to sit down and have lunch. Very clean - will be back!"

October 2011 — "My wife and I decided to try boogies burgers. I ordered the Fays burger with onion rings and a milk shake. I found that the burger on average was very dry nothing really special. My wife ordered a double cheese burger with a Banana milk shake and we shared the onion rings. We really did enjoy our milkshakes, but our burgers were disappointing. We seated ourselves in the corner, there were many tables and we did find it nice there were a ton of places to sit. When our server finally brought our food over after about 15 minutes of waiting, she wasn't very warm. In fact we found the whole service we received from start to finish very average if not poor. The onion rings were really okay. It really isn't our fave and we probably wouldn't ever consider it ever again. I would rather stick to places like Peters drive in, where I know I will get good food and service every visit! "

"My New Favorite Burger"

June 2011 — "While competing in City Chase this weekend, my hubby and I came upon Boogie's Burgers, which I had only just recently been told about. Having lived in Calgary for most of my life, I was surprised that I had not known about this hidden gem before then. They opened in 1969 and the quaint little place still has the feel of an old time diner. Although I didn't try one on this visit, I did notice their big selection of milkshakes and plan to return and try one. We both commented that we would be bringing the kids back as the atmosphere there is just plain "fun". We had the mushroom burger with mushroom sauce and a small order of sweet potato fries. The burger was heavenly as were the fresh fried mushrooms and onions piled on the burger. The bun was toasted to perfection and the size of the burger is perfect for sharing. As I said, we had the sweet potato fries, but I look forward to trying their regular fries as they looked soooo yummy and homemade that I almost grabbed one from the table beside us. Definitely a MUST try in Calgary. My mouth is watering for another just talking about it...."

"Bringing back delicious! "

February 2011 — "Boogies Burgers is located on Edmonton Trail, and at first glance, looks like a little hole in the wall place not worth visiting. However, Boogies has been there for quite awhile, and this is a result of their great food and fun, unique atmosphere. It is setup to resemble a diner from a time in the past where food was good, service was great, and life was sweeter and more slow paced. There are old school arcade games, and memorabilia items from long ago used as decor. The staff are very laid back and friendly and genuinely seem to like their job! The menu boasts many different burger choices and the burger sizes are very generous. All other add ons, like fries etc, are ordered separately. I decided to give the "Fay Burger" a shot and was not disappointed at all! Paired with some onion rings, it was one delicious beef patty smothered in mushrooms and mushroom gravy! I was barely able to finish my meal. And of course, a traditional diner wouldn't be complete without a milkshake! Try Boogies for a new take on an old theme. "

"Great Burgers!"

February 2011 — "One of the best places to go for a burger in Calgary has to be Boogies Burgers on Edmonton Trail. It has been there forever and little has changed over the years. Other than a fresh coat of paint, the restaurant probably looks exactly the way it did when they first opened their doors and the food is still made from scratch, like they did in the good old days. During my most recent trip I ordered the Boog Mac, which shares a resemblance to the popular fast food Big Mac, only it is easily a thousand times better. The burger is made from fresh meat and fresh ingredients and is big enough to feed a family of four. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a little, but it is really big. I also ordered fries which are fresh cut from real potatoes and the Young Elvis milkshake, a concoction of peanut butter and banana ice cream. Delicious! The prices at Boogies are a little higher than you might pay at a typical fast food joint, but the food is worth it and you won’t leave disappointed."

"Deadly burgers!"

August 2010 — "So, as I sit here, I can still smell the BBQ sauce on my fingers. I hope some of the smell transfers to my keyboard and lingers. I went here to take out a couple of burgers. I had the Blazing Saddles burger- 2 patties spicy bbq sauce and all the fixings. So- when I got to my destination, I was overjoyed with the density of my soon to be consumed lunch. My typical criterium of not panicking about the mess was maintained, as I enjoyed bite after messy bite. This is truly an awesome burger place, and does not suffer from the hype of other burger joints in the city. The spot was bustling, and all the plates looked attractive. There was a bit of a wait, but it was absolutely worth it as they cooked me a fresh burger on the spot. Great job! "

December 2009 — "I’m not sure where I heard about this place, but apparently this was the place to try if you wanted an amazing burger. I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. It was quite pricey at around $6 for a very basic burger. Maybe that’s just me. It was quite big, which for a lot of people is a plus. I suppose that would have been the only plus, had it been good. It was just a typical burger for me, so it being big just meant more to throw out or more for me to try and finish even though I didn’t want to. The place itself was really cool, retro feeling though. And the people there were really friendly if that counts for anything. I think if my friends wanted to go again, I’d give it another try but to date, not a number 1 burger joint in my books."

"Where's the flavour?"

August 2009 — "Now I know how popular this burger joint seems to be among people and especially my group of friends so I've given this place two tries over a one month period. My first burger (the Fay burger) was disappointingly dry and flavorless. Considering the Fay burger actually comes with bacon/mushroom/mushroom sauce, and I tried to put a lot of sauce on it, I still couldn't get the burger to taste half decent. I threw out half that burger. My second experience more recently wasn't too different either. This time I had confirmation that the burgers were too dry and the bun was too thick from friends who also ordered the same thing. It makes me wonder whether this place is losing it, if it's just a hit and miss burger joint, or if it was ever good at all. On the other hand, the yam fries and milk shake I ordered was very good. I would recommend this place for milkshakes?!"

"Boogie Burger"

July 2009 — "Met some friends on our way home from work one evening at a local burger place in Calgary called Boogie Burger located at 908 Edmonton Trail NE. When we pulled into the strip mall parking lot, there was a sign on a billboard saying “Peter Who? which I later learned was a reference to Peter’s Drive-In. Apparently the owner also started up Peter’s Drive-In which has some notoriety in Calgary as having the best burgers – I have now tried both and Boogie Burger is my hands-down favourite burger place in Calgary. The décor is very basic and has a nostalgic feel with old-time video games such as Pac Man. You place your order as you walk in and they bring it over to your table when it is ready. Along with a few tables scattered around, there is also a counter with stools and a TV propped in the corner. I had the Faye burger that comes with a mushroom sauce, sautéed onions and bacon on a huge sesame seed bun and an order of onion rings. It was delicious, the sign was right Peter Who?"

July 2009 — "I came here to grab some burgers with some friends on a very hot day. This little burger joint was extremely hot and stuffy because there is no air conditioning so we had to wait outside. The look of the restaurant is quite dated and due for a renovation but at the same time, the old look does give the joint some character. The wait time was about 10 minutes for 3 burgers and some yam chips (they were out of yam fries). I had the mushroom burger. I loved the look of the burger: a square toasted bun with all the ingredients placed neatly inside and not mushy like many other place. The taste pleasantly surprised me. It was everything you'd expect from a great burger. Not too greasy or dry. The yam chips were enjoyable but just a tad on the burnt side. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great burger."

July 2009 — "This place is a nice throwback to the old school burger joints that used to exist. A rare find in Calgary nowadays, it even comes complete with an old Pac Man arcade game, that in itself is worth a visit right? Despite the old décor, the prices have been modernized, so be prepared to spend 7-10 dollars for a specialty burger and up to $15 for their most expensive “Don’t Fear the Reaper Burger” which comes with tons of bacon, cheese and topped off with a fried egg and a hot dog wiener! They had a special when I visited, called the Boogie Mac, basically their version of the Big Mac. It was not too bad, the ingredients were fresh but I couldn’t help but notice their big mac sauce was just plain ol’ thousand island dressing. The service was pretty good as the food arrived promptly, they did forget to bring me my gravy though, which I only remembered as I walked out the door. The next time you are craving a good burger, you should check this place out."

June 2009 — "If you haven't been to Boogies yet you are in for a big surprise. Don't be dismayed by the less than appetizing name of the restaurant, you have never met a more delicious burger in your life. Boogies sports your ever popular retro-diner look, however unlike all the other's, Boogies has actually been around since the 60's, and to prove it, they have an original Pac-man game for you enjoyment while you wait. I was happy with the service; our waitress was friendly and attentive. The menu has way too much to choose from but I settled on the Fay's Burger with curly fries. What arrived was possibly the largest burger circumference wise, that I have ever seen. It was huge! While I thought I would never finish it, the all beef patty isn't very thick, making it not quite as much food as you think. Fay's burger has bacon, mushrooms, fried onions and some sort of amazingly delicious special sauce, and of course all the fixings. I think this was possibly the best burger I have ever had in my life. It is hard to describe how good it was, you will just have to trust me on this one and head over to Boogies as soon as you can. "Tubby Dog sans Tube Steak"

May 2009 — "If you've always wanted the ironic sensibilities of Tubby Dog, but with less dog and more burger, then Boogies Burgers was made for you. I thought this would be a place I'd enjoy when I saw the milkshake of the week was "The Elvis" a concoction consisting of peanut butter, vanilla ice cream and bananas. I knew this would be a place I'd love when a friend of mine tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out the second milkshake of the week was "The Fat Elvis", a concoction consisting of peanut butter, vanilla ice cream, bananas and......bacon bits. Needless to say, the milk shake was...interesting. The burger I order on the other hand (a simple made to order; double bacon cheeseburger) was nicely done. I hear you can get a burger with a fried egg on it, but as a neophyte Boogie goer, I thought that might be too much. The service was friendly and prompt, and as I mentioned early, the atmosphere is hipster irony at its best. "

"Boogies... Possibly THE best local restaurant in Calgary..."

February 2009 — "Boogies... Possibly the best local restaurant in the city... I've been to Boogies now a handful of times since moving to Calgary in 2008. Recommended by many locals, including family, I must agree that they have one of the best customer service / overall experience ratings for the style of their restaurant in Calgary. Upon walking in you see what can be best described as that old fashion 'place to be' atmosphere, including many rare video games and a TONNE of memorabilia from various celebrities whom passed through Calgary and articles hanging on the wall that date back far enough for you to be certain that your in for a great experience. I always try to sample a different burger, from their very interestingly elaborated list of burgers, that contain ingredients extremely unique in comparison to any common restaurant in Calgary. Drop on in! If you haven't been told to yet by your friends.... your missing out! "

"Always a treat!"

February 2009 — "I am an avid visitor of Boogies. I absolutely love and crave thier burgers. I had not been in a while and heard that the ownership had changed and was quite fearful to return after reading some of the reviews. I have to disagree with the fellow who said "change is not always good". In my experience the changes the new owners have made are perfect! The essence of the establishment has remained the same, an old fashioned burger place with a neighbourhood feel.I was especially fearful when I read that they had changed the special sauce fortunately the fellow that said the special sauce has been changed is sorely mistaken. Though the recipes for each burger have remained the same, one might notice the new owners have improved the quality of burgers. They now offer real cheddar cheese, as opposed to processed cheese which was offered before and a tastier less doughy bun! Their ingenuity and focus on customer service is apparent in everything they do. They have added numerous new milkshakes; you can even get a bacon maple milkshake, not to mention the addition of a Jerk chicken burger which is absolutely fantastic! I even noticed they have added a Boog Mac which I can hardly wait to try. I was also pleasantly surprised that they started offering Boogies Burgers apparel. I must say the service has definately improved. Quick, efficient service is a nice treat in this city! If you are looking for good food, hearty portions and fast, friendly service Boogies Burgers is the place to be! "

"Change is not Always Good!"

November 2008 — "Being a loyal Boogie's customer for five years, I've noticed quite a bit of change with new ownership as of recently. The burgers have a mysterious new sauce that is reminiscent of something Peters' Drive In might serve. I've experienced soggy onion rings, soggy french fries - for a person with a Culinary Arts degree it is hard to swallow when all you have to do is turn the heat up on your deep-fryer and/or not overload it. At first when the new management came in, everything stayed the same as our near and dear South African owners had left it, but in time, despite promising they would not change anything, they have slowly done the opposite. The guys who run it are dynamite. The many staff behind the counter are unnecessary. I don't know what happened to the old-fashioned Boogie's way of cooking a burger - one cook, one server... one great burger....but it's a real shame. "

As soon as you walk in you are treated like a long time friend not something you see very often these days. I had a pizza burger quite honsetly the best burger I have ever had my wife tried the Jerk chicken they may have had it brought right from Jamica it was that good.fries amazing fresh home cut not soggy at all. August 2008 — "After hearing about Boogies from a couple of buddies I finally decided to make ther trip down and try it out. The place is very freindly, clean, and relaxed. We sat at the counter next to the big screen and watched the Stamps game. It reminded me of an old style neighbourhood diner. There were 3 young guys working and they were polite and gave great service. I had seen the youtube video on the Keiths Burger so I decided on that with Spicy Fries. The Burger is HUGE. The you tube video doesnt do it justice. Not only was it big, it tasted unreal. The fried egg, bacon, mushroom sauce, pizza sauce, and fried onions all compliment each other well (who would have thought). My Girlfriend ordered the The Red Dog. It's a Large Hot Dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried on a toasted hot dog bun. She's not the fast food type but said it was great and wanted more. Anyways the place was excellent and I cant wait to go back. Oh yeah it has old school table top Video Games......they even have wonder boy!!!"

"Better than ever!"

June 2008 — "I have been a huge fan of Boogie's Burgers for years. They quite possibly make the best burgers I've ever tasted. A couple of months ago I visited Boogie's and was sad to hear that the owners had sold the business to a bunch of young guys. I was hoping that nothing would change with the new ownership. Since the new ownership has taken over, I have visited Boogie's a handful of times and can't even express how good the burgers are now. I didn't think they could get any better, but they have done something to the sauce to improve it and it's better than ever!! Our staple meal at Boogie's is two 1/4 lb. mushroom, cheese and bacon burgers with fried onions, tomatoes, lettuce etc. We also share spicy fries and onion rings. On our last visit, the burgers were absolutely scrumptious and the sides tasted awesome too. Of course we had to accompany our meals with a couple of bottles of Keiths. I loved the old owners, but I must admit, the new guys are pretty awesome too. They have changed a few things in the restaurant, for instance, they took down all the motorcycle pictures and now sell interesting artwork - with a crime scene theme. The new guys are also very customer service oriented and I think we were asked three or more times how our meal was. They even kept an eye on our beverage levels and offered more beer! Great customer service!! We'll definitely remain faithful patrons for a long time."

May 2008 — "I have eaten at Boogies Burgers many times. I was somewhat skeptical at first when my friend said that we should go, but the moment I tried the burgers, I was hooked. They are big, fresh, and delicious. Completely customizable with the toppings, I enjoy them best fully loaded. Their Keith's is amazing, topped off with a fried egg. Some other reviewers mentioned they were greasy, but I find them to be some of the least greasy burgers I have ever had. The meat is fresh and delicious; juicy, but not greasy. "Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere"

April 2008 — "I have a confession. I've lived in Calgary all my life, but had never had a burger from Boogies Burgers. I like meat, I really do. I've had Burger Inn. And Galaxie. I've had Peter's more often than I care to mention. But never Boogies. I was missing out. The atmosphere is great (diner-style with 80's video games), and the service is fantastic. I understand that there's new ownership, and all the owners are young-ish ex-bartenders and bar managers who are friendly and enthusiastic. The burgers are good, if messy. But they're messy for a reason- The burge r patties are ultra thin but huge, on special baked daily buns that are equally expansive and thin. The net effect is a burger the size of a small plate that looks like it lost a battle with an 18-wheeler. What this means is that even the smallest mouth could order a 3-patty 1/2 pounder fully loaded, and still get a good jaw lock on it. This ingenious design does impact the structural integrity, but it also ensures that every bite has a good cross section of goodies, of which there are many to choose from. My burger had the standard assortment of vegetable fixins, along with bacon and their special mushroom sauce (which rocked). I also had the yam chips, which were a nice change from spuds. A creamsicle milkshake also hit the spot. My accompanyment, my 14 year old daughter, rounded out the experience by kicking my butt at tabletop pinball (but wisely decided against accepting my Ms. PacMan challenge...) Highly recommended. "

November 2006 — "Boogies has a bunch of burgers to choose from (as well as chicken and veggie burgers) that are available with a variety of toppings, including cheese, bacon, onions and a mushroom sauce. My boyfriend and I went here for lunch one day and each got burgers with cheese and mushrooms sauce, with yam fries and milkshakes. The burgers were really messy and I ended up losing most of mine to the plate. All were very tasty but we each had a stomachache for the rest of the day from all the grease. I haven't decided if it was worth it or not. The atmosphere is really neat, very retro with old-school video games and decor from the 70s. I would probably go back but I would try to order something a bit fresher and healthier (if that is possible). I can see why this place has lots of regulars -- the staff are incredibly friendly and the food is old-fashioned and reminiscent of burgers joints of the past. "

August 2006 — "I have been a long-time fan of Boogies Burgers. They offer some of the tastiest burgers in the city! The spicy fries and the onion rings are also to die for. This burger joint was established over 40 years ago and I doubt that much has changed over the years. They use a cheese sauce on their burgers, so if you're not a fan, make sure you don't order it. Also, they have a great homemade hot sauce. My typical order is a 1/4-pounder bacon, mushroom cheeseburger (loaded), onion rings and spicy fries! It is also licensed, so you can enjoy a nice cold beer with your burger."

"Boogies is best!"

June 2006 — "My wife and I, like most people who live in Calgary, are not from Calgary. We moved here in late '99 from Ontario. Being avid carnivores, we asked a few people in town where to get a good burger, this being cow-town with "The best AAA beef in Canada" etc. etc. etc. Peter's was what we we're told over and over again. So, we tried it. Here is my quick synopsis of our first and only visit: Looked old and run down. Ordering was either in your car or standing at a few windows outside the building. Staff were unfriendly and slow. Fries were soggy. Burgers were greasy and tasteless. My orange milkshakes tasted like alcohol. Line ups were too way long. Now, this review doesn't seem like it is for Boogies at all does it? Well, I just felt that the best way to plug Boogies was to bash Peters! Boogies, go, you wont regret it.... Better burgers. Better Fries. Far superior milkshakes. (I recommend chocolate) Licensed, if you want a cold one while you nosh. Fantastic Friendly service from the owners themselves. Burgers are a bit sloppy and greasy but very tasty. (Have an ample supply of napkins at the ready) Boogies is best! "

BulletDescription

Boogie's Burgers is one of the best places in Calgary to get a delicious, homemade burger. This diner-style restaurant boasts a variety of burgers, ranging from a large Keith's burger topped with an egg to a quarter pounder loaded with cheese, bacon and mushrooms. The secret to the burgers is in the sauce, making this a popular burger joint that has been around for over three decades. Chicken burgers and hot dogs are also available and the milkshakes and onion rings are not to be missed.
