February 2011 — "Came here for lunch while in Edmonton not too long ago, and of all the Japanese restaurants I've been to in recent memory, Mikado might have them beat when it comes to interior design and service.
Seriously, as hectic as a restaurant during lunch-time can be, after eating here, I actually felt relaxed. The interiors employ an amalgamation of modernist and traditional Japanese architecture that is a beauty to behold.
But enough about the ambiance. I ordered a standard bento box that contained terriyaki chicken, sushi, tempura and salad. I must say for how relatively inexpensive the selection was, I was amazed by the portions Mikado delivered. On top of that, the quality of each item was quite could, not exemplary, but definitely above average.
Finally, our server did a great job making sure our food and drinks were delivered in a timely fashion; which was commendable considering how many tables it looked like she was taking care of."

August 2010 — "As a regular customer for Mikado, I always bring my clients for business lunch there. The food is good, service is excellent, and almost no waiting time since reservation is accepted. The best appetizer is the must-try "Dragon Eyes". This restaurant serves unique kind of sashimi, from scallops to bluefin tuna, and common sushi rolls. The best a la carte are the BBQ eel sushi and chop-chop. And as dessert, they have "tempura ice-cream", which usually can be shared by two people. The ice cream is wrapped in tempura skin and very tasteful. The food is always served in a very elegant presentation. Although the price is a little bit expensive, it's definitely worth it."

December 2009 — "In today’s competitive world, you need more than just good food and a great atmosphere to attract customers. Signature dishes, or house specialties, will definitely put your name on the map. Mikado restaurant is known for their grilled dishes, but I find a few of their cold items much more intriguing. My favorites are the dragon eyes, deep fried sushi rolls filled with salmon and asparagus, drizzled with a tangy and delicious orange sauce. Second is the kamikaze cocktail. This dish, which is not a cocktail, consists of a spicy blend of finely chopped tuna tartar. The tartar is served with thinly sliced red onions, and is most tasty in petit bites. If you’re not a fan of raw seafood, then the bbq squid will hit the spot. Served with a creamy sesame dipping sauce, the squid is grilled just right, allowing the texture to be firm but still very tender. The atmosphere of the restaurant is trendy and inviting, although I personally find the South Common location more relaxing. Prices are slightly more expensive compared to other restaurants in its class, but detail and presentation justify the difference. "
