"Huge Pub to Accommodate All Your Friends"

Save Review

November 2011 — " This place is very large. I got lost a few times trying to find the washroom. Service was quick to attend to our beer needs. They need a menu to account for all the beers they have as the waitress would take 5 minutes to ramble them all off. I got a lamb burger with onion rings, and it was moist and really good. The prices for food are a little above average in my opinion, but the quality is there, and there are some specials everyday that are a good deal. I would recommend for a sport team after game pub, or any other occasion to go out with the friends. "

"Slow service but cheap food"

Save Review

October 2011 — "We decided to try out Wednesday ribs for 3 cents each. We ordered two soft drinks with two normal priced appetizers (potato skins and Irish sausage pastry) plus six plates of special ribs (each plate has 10 ribs). there was 17 flavors to choose from, same flavors as the chicken wings. We didn't particularly like the curry mango flavor as it tasted similar to the aroma of soap. Otherwise, the other flavors are not too bad. We tried mild teriyaki, hot chili, normal teriyaki, honey garlic, salt and pepper, and curry mango. Because we ordered at least one plate of regular priced item, we would be able to receive pop refills for free. Otherwise, I'd be spending too much on refills because the ribs are very dry and salty. It's not a bad experience, I may go back for this deal on Wednesdays. Service is very slow though, be warned. "

"Gerat pub for catching a game"
Image

Save Review

September 2011 — "The Kilkenny Irish Pub has long been a favourite of mine for catching a game or UFC fight in Calgary. It is located behind a car wash and the Blockbusters beside the Brentwood C-train station and strip mall. Due to its close proximity to the University of Calgary it is a popular pub amongst university students during the school year to grab a bite to eat along with a few drinks. As there are lots of older crowds living in the area you can also frequently catch old timers or businessmen visiting the pub as well so there is something for everyone here. It has a great atmosphere for catching a hockey game or UFC fight on the weekends. There is no cover charge to watch UFC on pay per view and the crowd really gets into the action. There are even drink specials on Saturdays which is a rarity. "

"Decent Sunday Brunch Buffet!"
Image

Save Review

July 2011 — "I was craving a good and filling breakfast on a Sunday morning and remembered that Kilkenny Irish Pub offers a buffet for a reasonable price. I think it was around $15 - $20, but it is definitely worth it. They have a bunch of different areas filled with delicious items. One area has scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, eggs benedict, hashbrowns etc in warmed buffet dishes. There is also a salad bar with cheeses, pickles, sandwich meat, bread, olives etc. A chef's station is set up where you can get cooked-to-order omelettes and they also had roast beef. There was also a dessert station set up but I did not try any of them due to a nut allergy and not wanting to risk it. Overall, the experience was very pleasant and I left feeling extremely satisfied. The service was alright despite it being somewhat busy. I am glad I remembered that The Kilkenney Irish Pub serves this Sunday brunch buffet because it is definitely worth the drive."

June 2011 — "It was a Tuesday night. We visited Kilkenny because we were in the neighborhood and wanted a casual environment for a get together dinner. This was just the place for that. It was laid back and casual. Our server was very friendly and efficient. We ordered four starters because Tuesday night they had a BOGO (Buy one get second one 50% off for starters). We also ordered a cobb salad for the individual that didn't eat greasy food. Surprisingly, all our meal came at the same time within 15 minutes. We didn't have to wait long at all. Our refills were offered before our glasses were empty too. It was a good experience, good environment, nice casual and relaxing pub. Good for nice chats among big groups after a long day at work. However, I found that there isn't much value to the food. It's priced way too high than what it is worth (quality and serving size). "

"Cheap Wings, Drinks"

January 2011 — "The Kilkenny Irish Pub in Brentwood is a long-time favourite of friends and family. It has great daily specials, lots of televisions, and a pretty good vibe. First, parking may be tough to find right in front of the pub during peak periods. Try to park elsewhere in the mall parking lot or behind the pub in the residential area. Once inside, seat yourself. There is plenty of room in many different rooms. There are only a few tables that don’t have a view of the dozens of televisions displaying sporting events. Customers should try to go during happy hour which is usually from 5-6pm when beverages are 40% off. And they have quite a wide selection of beers both domestic and imported. Customers should also go for one of their many daily specials. I went for 17-cent wings on Monday night. I shared teriyaki, honey garlic, and tangy BBQ wings. They tasted just fine, medium sized and lightly breaded. They did have way too much sauce, however. Service is always great as they have a plethora of servers, even when busy. I highly recommend visiting he Kilkenny Irish Pub for one of their many special deals."

"I Love Yorkies!"
Image

Save Review

January 2010 — "Yes, I am a regular at Kilkenny's just for their mini Yorshire pudding beef dip things. They are like beef dips except the beef is rolled into a mini yorkshire pudding - they are so good with a beer or two! Along with that, I almost always order the Irish potato chip nachos (replace nacho chips with waffle cut potato chips). This dish is cheese-y, salty and just everything a fries and cheese lover would like! This place is quite quiet on weekday nights - it does take a while for the waitresses to even notice you've arrived. Wing nights are packed and line-ups go out to the parking lot. "

"Kilkenny is consistently satisfying"

December 2009 — "I really enjoy the ambience of Kilkenny - the decor, warm wood and cozy fire is a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a cold winter day. I have favoriate spots in the Brentwood Kilkenny where you can tuck away in a private booth or sit by the crackling fire on overstuffed chairs. I have sampled a variety of salads, soups, burgers and traditional menu items. The Cobb Salad ($13.99) is huge - I always replace the bacon with more egg and tomato and I'm never disappointed. The Liberator ($12.50 for the smaller version) has cottage cheese, shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, peppers and olives topped with cheese - always nice. I really recommend the Garden Burger, which is what I chose for this visit - it is probably one of the best I've tasted (some of you have probably sampled the sawdusty version - this is juicy and tasty with a soybean and mushroom base for $12.25). I absolutely love their burger. I had the wild mushroom soup as my side; today it seemed a bit thick and gloppy; maybe a bit too much thickener but usually tasty so I'll assume it was an off-day. I hit happy hour and drank a nice draft and spent about $16 in total. Sometimes the service is slow - a tip is to make sure you make eye contact as quickly as you can with the server in the area so they know you are tucked away or they may not notice you right away. "

"Real Irish food at an excellent price"
Image

November 2009 — "I have only been there once, but I thought it is an excellent place; especially if you are a fan of authentic Irish cuisine. I had the Shephard's Pie and my friend had Bangers and Mash. You really can't get more authentic than that! We thought the food was great and an excellent value for the money. I thought the drinks were a bit pricey at about 8 bucks a pint, but then most of the liquor on offer is imported. It was close to the University of Calgary and full of real people having real conversations. It may not be your type of place if you are under 22, but for the rest of us, it is well worth the drive. It was a bit hidden away in the back of a large commercial area with tons of traffic, so you really have to look for it; but we thought it was worth the effort. "

"Brentwood Gem"

February 2009 — "Kilkenny's is a substantial restaurant and bar with nooks and crannies and lots of nicknacks stashed all over the walls. It can be nosiy as it is a bar with several tv's. The servers are generally friendly and food service is quick. Food is the typical English- Irish fare with generous portions and good vegetable sides. You can't go wrong with Coogan's Casserole if you like seafood or the fish and chips. It can get very busy on the weekends."

"Solid as a Rock"

December 2008 — "The Kilkenny Irish Pub is located in the Brentwood Shopping Centre next to the Medical Clinic. I have always enjoyed going there, especially on summer evenings when the outside patio is open. It catches the late afternoon/early evening sun. The building itself is very large with many sections, alcoves and table and chair options. The service is usually very good, with the exception of very busy times. One thing I don't like about the ambiance is that the piped in music is usually too loud for my taste, especially if you want to converse with a friend. You can't get away from it either, as they have a lot of strategically placed speakers. The menu consists of the more traditional dishes, (Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, Shepards Pie etc.) but also has some unusual offerings. Why not try the Wild Boar Burgers? Also available are soups, wraps, and steaks. (Steaks are $19) Entrees are typically in the $13 range, main salad dishes range from $9 to $13, while a side salad is $5. If you are in the mood to treat yourself to a dessert, a good selection is available for about $6 each. I really like the Cougan's Casserole. (Shrimp, crab, clams, scallops and veggies on a bed of mashed potatoes) All this, combined with soft chairs situated in a private little alcove, and you can see why I have returned to Kilkenny time and again. "Good food..but long wait"

June 2008 — "The Kilkenny has good pub food, but I find the service slow. We waited about 15 minutes at our table before we were given menus and then about an hour for the food. Apart from the long wait, I enjoyed the place. It has a wide selection of food on the menu and a good atmosphere."

September 2007 — "The Kilkenny is a hidden gem amongst the Brentwood neighbourhood. It's always busy...therefore, it tends to get quite loud. It's also a bit over-priced for pub food but the food IS pretty awesome! I recommend the mini-yorkshire puddings or yorkshire cream puff dessert. The atmosphere is fun and the building has many little niches to enjoy your time there in some privacy."

August 2006 — "I used to frequent the Kilkenny on a regular basis, but have found that the prices have become too expensive for what you get, and the staff are sometimes in a pissy mood. Although the food is good, it's not worth paying over 10 or 11 dollars for sandwiches and burgers. That said, the atmosphere is good, and it is one of the few decent pubs in the Brentwood area. "

July 2006 — "The Kilkenny Irish Pub has been one of my favorite hangouts for several years. They have a menu filled with traditional pub favourites and also offer a delicious breakfast menu on Saturday. The Tex-Mex Skillet is delicious, but my boyfriend is a big fan of the Irish Omelette. They have a nice patio, which is a great way to spend a hot day."
