"Great Indian food again"

July 2009 — "There are so many very good indian restaurants places in the city, and this place belongs with the best of them. You get what you expect and want from a place like this. reasonable prices, good quality indian food, good quantity and friendly atmosphere. They have a huge buffet and beer selection but the first time i went here, i ordered from the menu and had the Chicken Tikka for appetizer, the Butter Chicken with coconut rice and Naan bread for my main course. All tasted very good and i would order any one of them again, especially the Butter Chicken. this place seemed very very busy and i would reccomend reservations. The service was good as well with regards to speed, attentiveness and knowledge.i would visit this place again "

"Great food - POOR, POOR SERVICE"
Image

Save Review

November 2008 — "Beautiful ambiance, totally romantic settings, warm, wonderful smells - good food. The only thing lacking? Service, in this case, lack of it. Asked for assistance, did not receive. Had to flag down other servers to get refills of drinks, bill, etc. Other patrons had the same issue. It was comfortably busy, not hectic - do not know what the problem is - except perhaps not enough staff? Its close to home, I loved the food, but, not sure, after hearing it from a co-worker then experiencing it myself, if I will return to the Manning Crossing location."

"Butter Chicken"

April 2008 — "My family and I just moved here from Calgary and went to the 34 avenue location restaurant on the southside for the first time last week. We all had the buffet which was the largest buffet I have ever seen anywhere. They had tandoori chicken, chilli chicken, lamb curry, fish pakora and best of all they also had the BUTTERR CHICKEN which was the best I ever had in years. The service was really good and one of the cleanest places have seen. On our way out they even gave us the best complimentary sweets which they make inhouse and sell at the counter."

"Unauthentic Vindaloo"
Image

Save Review

March 2008 — "On a recent visit to the south side location we found the chicken and prawn vindaloo dishes bland, far from authentic and no where near the spicy hot we requested. The well known fiery and tartness of vindaloo is completely missing. For the $30 paid, we could have tasted far better frozen curry from a local grocery store. When we called the restaurant to comment, the manager not only failed to apologize, but dragged me through an ingredients list - none of which included the basics of vindaloo. Next time we will stick to what we now best – Khazana on 107 ST."

"Authentically East Indian"

March 2008 — "The New Asian Village was recommended to my friends and I by numerous people so on a Wednesday, (for a belated birthday celebration) we made seven o'clock reservations for nine of us at the central location on Saskatchewan Drive. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and inviting. Indian music is playing softly in the background. The whole restaurant is decorated in authentic Indian style with brilliant coloured saris draped on the walls. The tables at the front of the restaurant are arranged normally but off of the main area there are private tables cornered off by beautiful drapery. The seats are low to the ground and fitted with cushions and more gorgeous fabrics matching the drapes. We could even close two big curtains if we wanted a fully private dining experience. This set-up was great for a group of nine because it was intimate and everyone could chat, yet no one was squished or uncomfortable. Everyone in the group ordered the buffet which cost $20.00 per person (not including tax or a tip). The buffet had a huge range of Indian dishes. The dishes catered to meat lovers as well as vegetarians. In terms of spiciness, the dishes were mild to medium but extra spicy sauces were provided for those who like things extra hot. The many choices satisfied everyone's appetite and enticed people to go back for seconds and thirds. The food quality was excellent. The curry beef was especially tender and the naan bread (which can be seen cooking in front of you) was delicious. A precaution, if you have a dairy allergy make sure you ask the staff precisely which dishes contain dairy products as some of the main sauces are made from cream, milk or yogurt. This is a great restaurant for small groups and its cost is pretty good considering you are getting an excellent quality buffet. I definitely suggest checking this place out. If you haven't tired Indian food then the buffet is a great way to test the waters out and try all the different dishes."

"Everything was Excellent"

August 2007 — "I am a visitor to Edmonton and have been to the New Asian Village in Millwoods three times. My 17 year old granddaughter comes with me. She is a vegetarian so I was a bit concerned. No problem though. This evening, I'm taking my fussy daughter, son-in-law, and even fussier grandson as well as my granddaughter. I hope they enjoy it as much as I do. My granddaughter orders from the menu and I have the buffet. The service has always been terrific. On our second visit, the waitress, we had on our first visit, came over and chatted. It's nice to be remembered. The Manager is a likeable chap and always friendly. I'd recommend this restaurant any time. I'll miss it when I go back to the cold Arctic."

July 2007 — "Tried the West End location for the first time. The lunch buffet was fantastic. The selection of dishes was huge. Soup, rice lamb, beef, chicken, veg, salads - it was all there. Flavorful, hot, and abundant. Loved it, ate way too much (as usual), and the service was great. The decor is beautiful as well. Definitely going back. "

"Always so tasty"

May 2007 — "A meal at New Asian Village is always a treat. The Butter Chicken is creamy and just the right amount of spicy. The nan is hot and abundant, and it's pretty cool to watch it being made in the tandoori oven right in front of you. We both had the lunch buffet and left full and satisfied. The atmosphere and ambiance are unique and almost make you feel as if you really are eating in an authentic Indian village restaurant. The view is also nice, and with the lunch and dinner buffet, there is hardly ever a long wait for a table. "
