April 2011 — "China rose gives off a sense of tradition when you first walk in.Nice water fountains nice dim of lights,great decorations and spacious.It really has its own feel.When they have any buffet going on its definately the highlight of anyones day.I couldn't believe all the selection this place had,from sea food to ginger beef, great selection of fruit and fried veggies,ice cream and dessert.I loved their calamari and mussels,(mmmm!)and the pork is excellent.The service was really good and I felt like I was really in control of my dining experience.Thats why I love buffets,I always have a couple of plat had great es,and when I'm full,I stay full for hours.Theyfriendly service and didn't hover.I love how big the place is so you don't have to wait very long to get a table.They even had special rooms for big groups of people and the rooms had large flat screens for viewing pleasure.China rose is a must for buffet experience.the selection is so vast theres got to be something there for everyone and its cheap prices for good quality food.I will definitely be coming back!. "

March 2011 — "I was recently at China Rose Restaurant and I have to say it's the best in terms of western chinese food I've had. They have no msg yet the flavors in their food is amazing. I notice that they are putting out different items on the buffet now like a curry beef brisket which is delicious and orange chicken. Everything is fresh and I've been going there for years and it seems like their getting better and better. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who goes!"

"My favorite Chinese Buffet "

September 2010 — "China Rose in my favorite Chinese Resturant/Buffet in Calgary. Always fresh, always well staffed, friendly, courteous service. I have been going to China rose for over 10 years and am satisfied with the food and items of the buffet everytime I go. All my friends and family know too that it is simply one of the best in town. Beautifully and traditionally decorated and themed throughout. You could even say it is one of the fancier buffet's that you could find in Calgary. The food is very fresh and hot regardless of the ammount of people who may or may not show up for it. The best in my opinion is the ginger beef, hot chicken balls, wonton soup, chicken gundou, sweet n sour pork, spring rools, and the always number one dumplings. They do accept reservations for bigger groups and I would suggest doing so, as they do fill up quite quickly it is a very popular spot. A little bit more pricey than your average but well worth it in the end as the quailty you just cannot compare. "

September 2009 — "My friends and I came to this place last week for wings. It’s in the North East near the Marlborough mall. I’m not sure what the regular rate for wings is but it was 15 cent wings during happy hour. I believe this price is valid between 4-8pm everyday. They also have a buffet available but we didn’t go there for that as I’m not a big fan of buffets. We ordered the typical flavors, hot, salt and pepper, teriyaki. The one I haven’t had before and I like the best was the dill. It was different but still really good. The place is usually pretty quiet which is fine by me since it means we usually get pretty good service there. They’re pretty good about refilling our drinks and at this price, it is very affordable to have a very good meal. I think we will definitely be coming here on a regular basis."

August 2009 — "Took the family for my husbands birthday, the front door service was poor & they were booked for a private function which took up most of the place so we have to wait an hour for a table. With that said once we were seated everything was much better, the all you could eat buffet was excellent & I really liked the fact that it had no MSG. Service was good except for 1 waiter that spilled sauce on my cousin. BUT the food
was really tasty, Im looking forward to going back again!"

"Western-Chinese at the top of its game"Keith
June 2009 — "When my friends and I are in the mood for Western-Chinese food (stuff like ginger beef, sweet and sour pork chops, dry ribs) we like to hit up China Rose.
Far from a hole in the wall, China Rose is housed in a very nicely kept building that contains a large dining room, banquet room and a bar. We sat in the bar so we could watch the playoffs.
We ordered the aforementioned trifecta of ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, and dry ribs; as well as some fried rice and chicken wings (which are on sale during happy hour and highly recommended). The rice was dry and not so good, however everything else was the perfect combination of crunchy deep fried goodness surrounded by gooey tasty sauce.
Our server was prompt with our drinks and was nice enough to check in on us regularly (which believe it or not is not always the case at a traditional Chinese restaurant.)
Would I come here for congee and some hot pot? Probably not. Will I come back for my favourite Western-Chinese food? You bet."

"The Best Wings No One Knows About."

April 2008 — "The selection isn't large, but the taste sure is.
Bottom line, my friends and I seek out wing nights, and one of the things I've noticed is how bad the quality of the wings in Calgary have become. Mind you, I never complain because let's face it, who can complain when wings only cost 15-25 cents. Anyways, tired of waiting in line for bad chicken wings, my friends and I went to China Rose to eat one night.
Good thing we did. The wings served here during happy hour are the same wings you get at the buffet, but prepared fresh. There are only 4 types of flavours to choose from, but they're all good. Just imagine ginger beef in chicken wing form and you get a good idea of what the honey garlic wings are like.
I was almost hesitant writing this review because I fear if I write about how good the wings are, the next time I go, I'll have to line up for a table.
Oh well. The chicken wings served in the China Rose lounge are worth the wait.

DescriptionChina Rose features north Peking cuisine, and guests can either order off the menu, or take part in the buffet. Banquet rooms and a patio are also available here. The lounge hours are Monday to Friday 3 pm to 11 pm, and the restaurant hours are Monday to Thursday 11 am to 11 pm, Friday and Saturday 11 am to midnight, and Sundays and holidays from noon to 10 pm.
