January 2012 — "I went to Hana Sushi with a group of friends when one of our friends was visiting from Australia for the holidays. It's located on trendy 4th Street and I was impressed with how easily I found street parking nearby. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we got a large table right near the entrance. A server was there and quickly brought me some tea and water while we waited for everyone to arrive. I wasn't in a sushi mood and luckily neither was one of my friends. We each ordered salads, which were tasty. We shared the gyoza and tempura as well. My only complaint is that the tempura took so long to come to the table I was sure they had forgotten our order. The gyoza was so good we ordered another! The rest of our group ordered sushi (and a lot of it!) and judging by how quickly it disappeared I would assume it was good! I would recommend Hana Sushi. It's a great location and the food was good."

"Perfected the food, could work on the rest a little"

May 2011 — "I am a pretty big fan of Hana Sushi! Not only is Hana in a great location but they are always pleasant and have excellent food. One thing I don't like about the resturant though is they seem to group their parties really close together so even when it isn't busy a whole side could be empty while all of their patrons are sitting on top of each other crammed in near the side where the washroom is. Needless to say, the steamed edamame was a fabulous way to start our meal, really well done and quite a large portion for only $5. All of the sushi was delicious; the salmon tasted especially fresh and was in nice thick slices. Their menu seems to have a good number of artisan type rolls, and I can't wait to try the rest of them next time I go. Once the bill arrived I didn't like how they charged twice for tea when we ordered one pot, however the $1.50 extra is negligable, and some of their menu prices didn't match what we were charged once our bill arrived. "Great!"

December 2010 — "I've read mixed reviews of Hana Sushi but decided to figure out for myself whether it was worthy of becoming one of my regular sushi joints. The verdict? Absolutely -- my meal here was awesome. The menu is the same as any typical sushi restaurant -- they have a selection of rolls, sushi, sashimi, some noodle dishes and so on. My friends generally prefer to get a bunch of rolls and split them all, so thats what they did -- and while I found that Hana Sushi didn't really have many super unique-sounding rolls, the ones they did offer were done really, really well. They were delicious and the presentation was excellent. We split some appetizers as well, tempura and aga dashi tofu, which were both really tasty. The service was also really prompt and the prices weren't outrageous. The decor is a bit odd -- a mix of Asian and Cowboy -- but the meal made up for it. Definitely recommended. "

"Fantastic!"

December 2010 — "I love sushi and am always excited to discover a restaurant that does it well. I was happy to find a great sushi place in Mission last week when I went to check out Hana Sushi with some friends. The interior is nothing exciting. It's a large, but fairly basic space with some Japanese art on the walls but otherwise it's fairly plain. The service was excellent, with servers bringing drinks and the bill quickly. They brought a few rolls out at a time so our table was never full of plates but we didn't have to wait too long for a new round of rolls. We started with some vegetable tempura as well as agedashi tofu. They were both pretty standard and tasted good. We then shared a bunch of their regular and special rolls including spicy tuna, California roll, a tempura roll, a roll that included smoked salmon and cream cheese and a roll with avocado, salmon and mango. Everything was delicious! The more creative rolls were especially good. We had no trouble finishing everything off as it was all so tasty. Hana Sushi is definitely on my short list of great sushi restaurants in Calgary."

"Fun. Delicious. Well Served."

July 2010 — "Having read previous reviews, my date and I steeled ourselves for strange decor and questionable service but received, instead, the timely attendance of a personable and helpful server and a warm, eclectic environment. The menu covered all that you would expect, plus a seasonal menu of current curiosities and combinations. On the whole, well worth the visit, I'd say. It won't be my last."

"Excellent sushi variety"

July 2009 — "We go to Hana Sushi quite often, but always after some debate. While they have our favourite sushi in the downtown core, the service is, shall we say, inconsistent. Don't go when it's busy because the front house staff can get overwhelmed, and they are sometimes kind of rude. At least you won't ever have to ask for the bill; they always bring it to you when they are done with you (even if you might have wanted some green tea ice cream for dessert and didn't get a chance to order it). However, the kitchen staff is consistently wonderful, talented professionals; they even shout goodbyes to you as you leave! It's fun to eat at the 'bar' and watch them work. And without a doubt, they have the best variety of sushi on their menu; especially vegetarian sushi which is what I am interested in. I would also go so far as to say that they have my favourite Miso Soup in the city. The decor is strange, with almost a western theme. Western as in, a giant cactus in the middle. In the toss-up between fabulous sushi and lackluster service, the quality food always wins, and we come back again and again."

"A Must-try Restaurant"

April 2006 — "I lived just around the corner from Hana Sushi for a couple of years. I dined in on numerous occasions and ordered take-out countless times. The Hana Boat (salad and miso soup followed by a combo platter of fresh sushi and sashimi) is absolutely delicious. It's more than enough food for two people. In fact, I don't think my wife and I have ever finished the whole thing in one sitting. The atmosphere and location are great, but the service is average. Still, a must-try restaurant in Calgary."

BulletDescription

Hana Sushi never disappoints. Superb dishes and great service make it a local favourite. The Hana Boat is a combination dish for two (even three) featuring some of the restaurant's most popular sushi.
