August 2011 — "Nick's is located a little ways away from Motel Village, off of Crowchild Trail. It has been a respected restaurant for many years. I remember having a pizza there years ago and enjoying it a lot, so I decided to return and try something else on the menu. I ordered the Salmon Fillet and it was very good, especially with the tartar sauce. It cost about $18 which is a pretty good price for the moderately sized fillet. I had mashed potatoes with the fish and they were good to. I had a salad as well with Blue Cheese dressing. The dressing was perfect! A mug of beer cost about $7, which is fairly common in Calgary these days. I noted that a bottle of Suavignon Blanc, Merlot, Carmenere, or Malbec was $29. Drinks and desserts were $6.99 each. I was a bit disappointed that the server did not mention that there was a special and we had already finished our food before we became aware that one was available. Should have asked I guess. In conclusion, Nick's food is consistently good and other than the steaks, menu items are quite affordable. "

"best steak ever!."

February 2011 — "A truly unique experience,Nicks steakhouse delivers a most satisfying and uplifting feeling for those craving a most intense menu. I remember walking in how nice our greeter was and how quickly we received a table. There was a nice setting of lightly dimmed lamps.I ordered the philly cheese steak, anything else I probably could not finish as I saw the mammoth sized t bone steaks and salmon dishes. The restaurant has a nice size to it and attracts all sorts of people.I didn't have to wait long for my meal, roughly eight to ten minutes, and It was so much better than any other philly cheese steak I've ever had.The proportion was huge so by the time I worked my way around it,I didn't have any room for dessert.(which was a shame because I looked over to the table left of me and saw nicks dessert side, mmmmm! I wish I was still hungry). All in all,the service was superb, they listen and put the customer first. The food was delicious and the setting of the place was nice and clean with a nice form of character. Try nicks and have some real steak or pizza (which I've heard is dynamite as well ) and the price is just right so you don't walk out of the place broke.Cheers!."

"Go for the VEAL! "

Save Review

September 2010 — "I went to Nick's with a friend, who said that he and his family had been going there for years and that they always had the same thing....veal parmigiana. I myself had never really had veal but was totally up for trying it! The atmosphere is really nice and cozy....almost like an alpine ski lodge or something. The service was great! The place was absolutely packed which is usually a pretty good sign. Our meal included a salad to start, and I chose the ceasar. It was delicious! The dressing was definitely homemade. As my side with my veal, I had the lasagna. Everything about the meal was delicious. The veal was tender and smothered in tomato sauce and cheese. I could easily see why it had become a family favorite for my friend! There are many other things on the menu, from pizza to pasta, salads to steaks etc. Definitely something for everyone! Nick's is a great place to take your family or to go on a date. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is outstanding! "

"Nick's is a Mainstay!"

August 2010 — "Nick's is always good. I love the people in there - they seem to care about quality service and look and act pleased to serve. The ambience is fun - I'm not sure what era it is (seems like maybe the 70's but forgive me if I'm wrong) and bright and open. They, of course, have steaks, along with chicken, seafood, salads, soups...pretty well anything you might expect in a steakhouse. I went on a weekend and they had a buffet, which I decided to try. I usually don't go for buffets because I'm not a big eater, but it seemed to be a good idea this time. I chose an omelette because it is made from scratch and I could choose the ingredients. While I waited, I piled my plate with a few desserts (why not?), some creamy salads and a carrot. An odd taste combination but fun. The omelette was very good and quite big - seemed like they used 3 eggs or a lot of milk or something but it was filling! I went back to the buffet and grabbed a scoop of California Salad and a crusty roll with butter and had a reasonable cup of coffee. The total cost was under $20 and I have to say I was stuffed and happy by the end of the meal. Thank you Nick's and I hope you stay in business for a long time to come! "

"Great steak!"

July 2009 — "Even though I had lived in Calgary for many years, it wasn't until I returned to the city after moving to the West coast that I actually visited Nick's Steak House. I was in town visiting friends and had a craving for real Alberta beef! The atmosphere inside the restaurant was a bit more casual than I had expected but it was still comfortable and clean. And all the staff members were friendly and quick to help. The menu is huge with lots of items to choose from (ie. salads, appetizers, veal, steaks, pasta, burgers, ribs, chicken, other entrees and even a kids menu). I opted for the 8oz teriyaki steak with veggies and fries. The steak was average price for a good cut of beef and it was cooked perfectly. My meal was very tasty and exactly what I expected from some good Alberta beef! I would definitely recommend Nick's and will be back for another steak when I visit Calgary again. "

May 2009 — "My husband and I came here with my parents after we ran a triathlon and it was not too bad. Good part about it is that they serve you steak (and really good steak at that) all day every day. We had a the buffet and there was plenty to eat on the buffet. There was breakfast stuff like eggs and sausages. The french toast was kinda weird but still decent. Back to the steak though... it was really good steak. Couple of suggestions would be to change the look of the inside of the restaurant, I know that this place has been around for a long time but it doesn't need to look like it has. We did get to meet Nick and he was really nice and seemed to really know his business. My parents said that they used to come here a long time ago and that Nick always is going around to the tables to make sure that everyone is enjoying the food. Kinda a nice touch!"

"Been Around 30 Years!"

May 2009 — "To think I've lived here for that long (30 years), but I had never dined at the Nick's Steak House in North Calgary. I had heard about the restaurant and figured it was now the time to try their steaks. On entering the restaurant I soon realized this is a popular place to be. It was busy but our friendly hostess sat us quickly and bought our smallest dining partner, a colouring page and crayons to keep her busy. On checking out their long and varied menu, I could see things were a bit pricey. Well that was not going to keep me from ordering a steak dinner this fine day. I opted for the top sirloin and well done. It arrived piping hot and medium cooked. I was so hungry, I didn't say anything and dug right into my meal. It was tender and the baked potato that came with it, was average and really, I've had better. This was a disappointment to me but maybe it was just an off day and I need to try them again."

"Great Steak"

January 2008 — "I'm not sure about the Lasagna, but I reluctantly went to Nik's Steakhouse after we weren't able to get into the Keg. I've had their pizza before and agree that it is good, this time I was craving steak. I ordered the steak sandwich expecting the usual thin slice of beef thrown over a piece of garlic bread. However when my steak came, it was thick, juicy and absolutely grilled to perfection. I can't remember the last time I had a steak so good. I was happy we ended up there instead of the Keg as their steak far surpasses the Keg and a lot of other restaurants that I've been to. "

"Not So Nice!"
Image

Save Review

February 2007 — "I have been a fan of Nick's pizza for awhile, but stupidly decided to order something else on the menu on my most recent trip to the restaurant. Instead of pizza, I ordered the lasagna, thinking they couldn't' screw that up. Unfortunately, it quite possibly was the worst lasagna I have ever had. It was VERY watery and the noodles were about 10 inches long (awkward to eat). It was like the lasagna had been previously frozen and then cooked when it was still frozen, causing the massive amount of liquid in the bottom. Lasagna is not a hard thing to cook, especially since it's just meat sauce and noodles topped with cheese, but it was SICK!! The steak my husband got was okay, but nothing special. I think I will stick to eating pizza whenever I go to Nick's again. "

"Really Delicious Pizza!"

November 2006 — "I have been searching for a delicious pizza for quite some time and I think I've finally found a place that offers a decent pizza... Nick's Steak House! I hadn't been there for a few years, but I think they've renovated. The atmosphere is like a family restaurant, but dark enough to also offer an intimate atmosphere. Our server was very attentive and helpful. We ordered medium wings to start, which were very delicious. We settled on the Nick's Special pizza, which has pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, green peppers and onions... possibly something else too, can't exactly remember. It was very good and the leftovers were even better! We will be visiting Nick's again when we are craving a good pizza. Their menu also features several types of steak, which I am sure I will be back for."
