May 2010 — "My boyfriend and I were staying at the Tonquin Inn and decided to try out their restaurant/lounge. We were greeted at the door by a very friendly hostess and immediately felt under dressed (jeans, t-shirts, ball caps and sweaters), but relieved to see other patrons wearing similarly causal attire. Restaurant is billed as casual dining, but decor really suggests fine dining. Nick's is the atrium-style lounge attached to the restaurant and has a different menu, mostly appetizers and finger food. We decided to eat in the restaurant and were given a window seat. We ordered crab cakes to start, which were absolutely to die for. Two big cakes drizzled in a sweet Thai sauce that melted in your mouth - a definite lick-the-plate-clean experience.. A small green salad with a raspberry vinaigrette was also served. My boyfriend gobbled this up, so I'm presuming it was delicious. I had the prime rib while the boyfriend had the 10 oz New York steak - both came with baked potato (sorry, no mashed) and steamed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. The veggies were done to perfection! Hot and crisp. The potatoes were thoroughly cooked and the beef was fantastic. The prime rib comes with horseradish sauce and the best tasting au jus I've ever had. The boyfriend's steak was broiled just the way he wanted it. He usually eats his steak with some kind of steak sauce, but wasn't offered any, nor did he need any. The steak was seasoned so well that any other condiment would have taken away from the flavour of the meat. We rounded off the meal with coffee and New York cheesecake, which we shared - not that we wanted to, but we were both so full by this time that we wouldn't have been able to finish a piece on our own. All in all, a truly fantastic dining experience. Although we didn't order wine or alcohol with our meal, sticking to pop and coffee, we were still pleasantly surprised the bill was under $80. Havining eaten at steak houses in the past, we were fully expecting the bill to be around $130."

"Nice Place To Dine"

May 2008 — "We were walking around the neighborhood near where we were staying looking for somewhere for dinner when we came upon this restaurant. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by a friendly host. We were seated at a window table which proved to be entertaining later. Part way through our meal, an elk decided to use the front lawn as its dinner. I decided to have the BBQ Ribs, which for almost $30 should be really good, but I was a little disappointed and have definitely had better. My wife chose to have the Chicken Florentine which she quite enjoyed. It was basted in a mushroom sauce served with steamed vegetables. I also enjoyed a pint of draft which we were both surprised when we got the bill, it only cost $5.25. There was an entry into a lounge, Nick’s Bar, which was in an atrium located on one side of the restaurant. We didn’t have a chance to check it out but it looked quite nice."
