August 2011 — "This place is off the beaten path of Banff Avenue and is a step back in time. The decor is similar to that of the old Mother Tucker's restaurant in Calgary. Lots of wood and pioneer artifacts. It's infamous for it's steaks but instead I had a nice Western Omelette and my wife had the Huevos Rancheros which is like a omelette with a soft taco shell on top all covered with a half inch of melted cheddar. The Western Omelette was the typical ham, cheese, and unadventurous mushrooms. I preferred my wife's dish which had salsa sauce stuffed into it. I couldnt' believe how fast our meals came. It was literally less than 5 minutes piping hot. Our server was cool and professional which isn't easy to find in a town filled with backpackers and snowboarders. The coffee wasn't the greatest so I would stray away from it. Check out Evelynn's Coffee shops spotted all over Banff instead. All in all, probably wouldn't go back. It's the quintessential senior citizen's cheap restaurant."

"Great Breakfast"

December 2010 — "After driving by Melissa's a few times and realizing how packed it was at breakfast, I thought it might be a good idea to try it out. When we got there around 1030 on a weekday it was very busy, but we were sat a table at the window. The menu offers a wide range of breakfast items like omelets, waffles, pancakes, bennies etc. I chose the Big Breakfast, which was truly big. Came with toast, eggs, pancakes, hashbrowns, bacon and sausages. I devoured it all, but it was very filling. My wife had the benny which looked good and was covered with a generous helping of hollandaise. The service was very efficient and our tea water was refilled without asking. It was quite obvious why it was so busy because the food came out fast and was tasty. If I'm in Banff again and looking for breakfast, I will definitely consider visiting Melissa's again."

"Locals know best breakfast"

September 2010 — "We went to Melissa's in Banff for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We got there about 11am and the the lineup was out the door but because we just needed a table for 2, we only had to wait about 15 minutes. Melissa's is known for being a popular place for locals to go in Banff for breakfast. I ordered the half size of the big breakfast because I wanted a pancake, hashbrowns, toast and eggs (comes with bacon and sausage too but I gave mine to my dining partner) but I could not possible manage a whole big breakfast on my own. The half size was just perfect. I was so glad that I ordered something with a pancake as it was so good- light and fluffy which is not what I expect from a restaurant pancake! The service was friendly and fast for being so busy. I would highly recommend having a breakfast at Melissa's if you are in Banff. "

"Tasty Breakfasts"

October 2007 — "Melissa's is a local favorite in Banff. It is located in an older heritage building right in the middle of Banff and is easy to find. It is open every day from 7am until late in the evening so it is a great spot for any meal. The food tastes homemade and is very good with a wide range of options to choose from. Melissa's is known for their steak but they also have a veggie burger and cater to all diet alternatives. The prices are reasonable and the service is always friendly. I was in Melissa's for breakfast on a Sunday morning in October and it was very busy. If you can plan ahead while on a weekend away in Banff, reservations are a good idea. I had the Huevos Rancheros which is one of my favorite breakfasts. The hashbrowns were homestyle and were also very good. It was a lot of food and I could not finish it all but if you have a healthy appetite, you will be pleased. Alcohol is served in the restaurant but it is also welcoming to kids so it is a great if you are looking for a family restaurant. There is a bar upstairs from the main restaurant with a daily happy hour from 4 to 7pm and a pool table and dart boards. Although all food I have had at Melissa's is good, I would recommend going to Melissa's as the best breakfast option in Banff."

"Standard fare with excellent service"

August 2007 — "Melissa's is an ideal place for basic, comfort food at low prices. In Banff, a restaurant like this stands out. I recently went here for lunch and was very pleased with my roast beef sandwich and soup for $8. The multigrain bread was fresh and I enjoyed the sandwich, although with just meat, mayo and lettuce, it was very simple. A slice of tomato or some cheese would have been nice. The soup was a very hearty ham and potato. The meal came with a pickle and a little cracker package and was served on the kind of brown crockery plate that was popular circa 1978. But that is part of what makes this place so good. It is comfortable and unpretentious and serves the kind of lunch my Grandma used to make for me as a kid. That, and the service is excellent. I haven't been here in over a year and I recognized the server. He could not have been more efficient and friendly. I suspect that if you go here a few times, it doesn't take long for the staff to know your name. There seemed to be a lot of regulars here."

"A great place for breakfast"

February 2005 — "I don't know what Melissa's puts in their pancakes but they are fantastic, and I'm not even a big pancake fan. This seems to be 'the' place for brunch in Banff, as it is usually always busy, but I can see why because in addition to the great food, the staff are friendly and prompt. "
