May 2011 — "This little gem opened up some years ago in Central Saanich, off of East Saanich Rd.. Many different restaurants have tried to succeed, but have failed to in this location, but the Chinese Village Buffet is a hit. The hours are limited, open for lunch from 11:30 to 2pm and dinner from 4:30 to 8pm. Arrive early, the restaurant is always bustling, for good reason. The buffet is not large, but holds around 20 items. You have a help yourself, beverage bar, with everything from water to juices/pop to cappucino's to chinese tea, as well as yummy desserts. This is included in your price. Now, lets get to the food. I find most buffets of chinese origin, the food seems to taste the same. The dishes do not have an individual flavour. This is definitely different. Everything was perfectly prepared and totally unique. The wonton's in the soup were huge, far more filling than dough, the garlic and ginger prawns and snow peas were to die for; the prawns tasted so fresh and the pea pods so crunchy, the veggie stir fry was incredible, and the black bean chicken was so good. They even had scallops and fresh cold prawns. There was the usual fried rice and chow mien, all good of course, but the strips of boneless pork, so tender and flavorful and the mushroom and zucchini in oyster sauce was heaven. For a buffet this is one of the best. We enjoyed our dinner so much, we went the following week to enjoy their special $8.95 take-out. Try it, you won't be disappointed."

"Good Buffet"

May 2010 — "Now, when you read this review, keep in mind it is about a Chinese food buffet, so I will be comparing it to other Chinese food buffets. We are already in a different class of restaurants if you will. So when I say "good buffet" it is good compared to other buffets of this type, ok?
This was a very good Chinese buffet, everything was fresh and hot, and the restaurant was clean. It is in Saanichton, and seemed to be quite busy with the lunch crowd which no doubt helped keep food moving and fresh. One complaint I often have about Chinese buffets is the meat is often fried until it is nearly jerky, but here the beef and pork were both very moist and tasty. The food was also not overly salty, as can sometimes also be expected, so I was happy about that.
Again, this is not my first choice for type of restaurant, but if you are in the mood for Chinese buffet, I would recommend it. "

DescriptionChinese Village offers a wide variety of Cantonese, Szechuan and Mandarin food. Hours of operation are from 11:30am to 9:30pm Sunday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday the restaurant is open until 10:30pm.
