October 2011 — "When vacationing in Banff we were looking for a restaurant that served good Alberta beef since my family was visiting from the East Coast. My nephew was also craving mussels so we tried to find a restaurant in Banff that might serve both of these. Through an Internet search we happened to find the Terrace Restaurant, located in the Banff Park Lodge. My wife made a reservation on Open Table, but I don't think it was necessary because it was a Tuesday night and we arrived the place was dead. In fact, there was not one table at 7:30pm! The restaurant was a bit hard to find (limited signs) and we ended up asking at the front desk where it was. The atmosphere was very nice and high class though, and it was the perfect place for my 11 year old nephew to experience his first fine dining restaurant. Unfortunately, we must have been looking at an old menu because they no longer offered mussels, but thankfully that wasn't a problem since they had trio of salmon, which gave my nephew the little bit of east coast he was craving. To start I decided to get the Caesar salad and for my main I got the filet mignon with mascarpone sauce, dauphine potatoes and vegetables. It was exquisite and perfectly cooked. For dessert I had the creme brule. The staff was particularly great with my allergies (shellfish and nuts) and I felt reassured that I would not have a problem at this restaurant. Throughout the entire evening the service was great (but how couldn't it be with so few tables)? The chef actually came out to ask how our meal was and seemed pleased that we thought it was absolutely wonderful. He said it was a shame not more people came or knew about this restaurant and we agreed. When we left my wife and sister pointed out that the sign barely mentioned any type of dining facility within the hotel. If you looked really close you could see "Dining Room & Lounge" in small letters at the bottom. If I were managing that hotel I would try to get a bigger sign because if we had just walked by we would never have stopped in, and the food is way too good to just pass on by. "
