August 2009 — "I visited Bonterra Trattoria with a group of friends after it came highly recommended by one of the guests in attendance. I had walked past the restaurant a number of times, but never really took any notice of it. The interior was not what I expected at all. Warm and comfortably elegant, with beautiful modern artwork to hold your attention while you wait for you meal. As an appetizer our group ordered the Olive Marinate, a large bowl of assorted olives that was perfect to pick at while we sipped our wine and waited for our entree's. I was a little disappointed when their delicious sounding duck special was sold out, but settled on the Taglitatelle Vongole which was excellent with fresh clams still in the shell and a flavorful but light white wine sauce. The service was good but a little slow, although our appetizer managed to keep us content and we didn't take much notice. I would definitely come back to Bonterra again for an upscale Italian dinner; maybe next time I'll get my duck!

July 2009 — "On our way to see the Rodeo at the Calgary Stampede, a group of us stopped at Bonterra Restaurant which is located on 10th Avenue and 8th S.W. It was a beautiful sunny day so we sat out on the patio which is quite lovely. It has a fireplace and also stand up propane heaters to ensure that you or your food doesn’t get cold. We ordered appetizers for the table which consisted of grilled squid and also marinated mushrooms in a truffle oil – both were very good. They also supply home-baked breads and bread sticks with balsamic oil to dip in for free. For my main meal I ordered fettucine with shrimp in a saffron cream sauce which was delicious. For dessert I wanted a crème brulee but unfortunately they did not have any and suggested the panna cotta with berries instead. Although they were similar in consistency, it does not have the wonderful burnt sugar on top when you crack into it with your spoon and although I did enjoy it, I would not rate it as high as a crème brulee. The service was great and I would not hesitate to return. If weather permits, be sure to sit on the patio, it adds to the experience."

May 2007 — "I've eaten here a few times - the most recent being last week when I took my mum (who was over from Scotland) there for her birthday. As usual the food was fantastic - and the veal was to die for. They even made a special effort and gave us a birthday cocktail and put a candle in my mum's dessert. The staff give you the right balance of privacy and attention .. I recommend this place to anyone who likes nice italian food in a cosy atmosphere .. I will most certainly be back again soon."

November 2006 — "Met with friends tonight for an Italian feast. Decor was nice, casual, busy but intimate. Extensive wine book with a few selections in the Martini section; included a Mojito in the mix. Wine racks adored the walls, with the ocassional sound of doors opening to remove a bottle from the rack behind the screens that separate dining tables. Tables located in the upper floor seemed to have more privacy because tables are distant from one another. Tables in main section of restaurant seemed to be more open to conversation from adjacent tables. Menu was not extensive, but presentation was everything. I started with the Insalata Verde - very nice salad with a light dressing. For my entree, I chose the Porchette - alittle light on the meat for my carnivorous taste. The best dish was chosen by my friend's wife who chose the pasta with the shrimp and scampi in a spicy tomato cream sauce. For the same price as my porchette, she had a tasty dish of pasta with at least 4 large prawns and 2 scampis. I had to play with my food to extend the time eating it. I could have wolfed it down in 2 minutes but I wanted to pace myself with the other pasta eaters at the table. The dessert (pear tart) was delicious. Overall price/value/ambiance was pretty good. Free parking at rear. "
