June 2011 — "I spent a year in Korea teaching English so I know what the cuisine should taste like and this place is authentic. There were many Korean patrons speaking the language so that's a sign that it's a taste of home. They greet everyone who comes through the door in Korean and they say "kam-sam-nee-da" when you leave which means "thank you". I ordered the duk-bae-gi-bulgogi for only $12.95 which is marinated beef in a soup with glass noodles. It was delicious and there were about six side dishes that came with it. They included kimchi (spicy pickled cabbage), rice, pickled root, chow mein with sesame oil, some greens and some other veggies. The sides are small on purpose but each one was great. The server was really nice and appreciative that I spoke a little bit of Korean. My only complaint was that it took about 20 minutes to get my lunch and it wasn't that busy. The decor is quite authentic and the restaurant has a big sky light in the middle for natural light. "

"Something to check out!"

January 2011 — "Korean Village has since move to a bigger and better location on 10th ave and 13th Street SW. The new restaurant is a lot more spacious and much more enjoyable to dine in with private booths and better air ventilation. An excellent choice for those who are dinning in a large group! Upon my recent visit, the 4 of us had a very delicious and satisfying meal for about $50. One order of their famous grilled marinated beef called the Bulgogi is a must have. You usually have a choice where they can grill it for you or you can grill it yourself with their portable gas stoves. A neat experience if one has never done it before! But I warn you, you’re clothes will be infused with the smoky smell. We also had the Bibimbap which is a stone rice bowl mixed with some meat and veggies. One of the best things I enjoy about eating at a Korean food is that you usually get a few cold side dishes with your order, it’s kinda like their appetizers. Typically you’ll see marinated radish, kim chi, flavored potato, bean sprouts, tofu etc. You can definitely get full eating too much of these. In terms of services, I had a very good experience this time with no complaints. Usually, this is not the case from what I remembered at the old location where one particular waitress was a bit off and service was extremely slow. "

"Great meal at a good price"

July 2009 — "I am a long time fan of Korean Village and recently took a friend there. We ordered dolsot bibimbup and bbq ribs. The selection of kimchi and vegetable dishes they provided were fresh and tasty as usual. I really enjoy the different little booths/rooms they have. They give a little extra privacy and a slightly better dining experience. The food was great as usual and the free hot tea they provide is very good as well. I highly recommend this place because the food quality is always on par and you can basically order any item on the menu and expect it to be good. The omlette type items, glass noodles, beef bone/tendon soups are delicious and the BBQ menu items cooked at your table is a great experience as well. Only negative is the ventilation in the restaurant. You will come out with your clothes smelling like food. But great affordable food is hard to find and this place offers just that."

"Worth a visit."

June 2009 — "Hidden behind the Calgary Tower is Korean Village. A quiet spot to take in a decent Korean lunch. Its on what appears to be a busy strip mall filled with our Korean businesses so parking may be difficult. I find myself often paying for parking on the streets. If you come between 11-2:00 PM you can order from their lunch special menu, my girl friend and I both ordered the Lunch Combo B. This is a very large meal that will certainly fill you up. The Combo B comes with short ribs, 2 dumplings, teriyaki chicken, white rice and a large serving of egg drop soup. All meals also come with the traditional Korean starters of preserved and pickled vegetables. All in all, the food is very good value for the money. The only thing I have issues with is the quality of service. I often found myself waiting 30 minutes for the food to come out. When you are on a 60 min lunch, this is important. I found it helpful to order in advance so the food is all ready when I arrive. Including tip you can expect to spend a total of about 10 dollars per person. So well worth it!"

"Call Ahead, It'll Save You the Frustration."

May 2007 — "A weekly lunch destination for my friends and I, Korean Village has some of the best value for money in the downtown core. The daily lunch specials provide more than enough food to tide one over to dinner. Most of the reviews I've read of the place comment on the horrible service. Truth be told I'd say the owners are in fact quite pleasant and can take a joke. I can however see where the service can at times seem sub-par (mainly in the wait times) but when you take into account it's a true Korean restaurant, the service is acceptable. Given the choice between an $8 dollar burger and French-fry combo, or an $8 smörgåsbord of Korean awsomness, I got no problem waiting the extra 20 minutes or calling ahead so I only have to wait 15. February 2007 — "The service is very slow as stated...however the food is the best Korean food in town. After visiting South Korea we came home with a craving for Korean food. We visited around and found that Korean Village is the best! You do have to go when you have lots of time. It is very slow."

"Not a Good Experience"

February 2006 — "I went to Korean Village just before noon on a weekday. The restaurant was not full whatsoever and we ordered pretty much right away. However, we waited and waited and waited for our order and it failed to come. In fact, the restaurant filled up and those people were served before we were. When we went up to remind them, they said it was coming right away. I think they actually misplaced our order. After an hour passed, we asked them to put it in to-go containers, as we only had an hour for lunch. They did not offer a discount and were not apologetic. Unfortunately, the wait was not worth it. The food was odd tasting and I actually got quite sick after eating it. Even though Korean Village is a mere block from my office building, no one here has ever gone back. There are way too many good places to eat around here."

"Questionable Service"

February 2005 — "Korean Village has good lunch specials for low prices. A set lunch has an egg drop soup with is simple and flavourful and the meal comes with kimchi and then some kind of bbq meat as well as potatoes and terriyaki-type meat. And it is all very delicious. My main concern with this place is the service. The last time I went, they forgot about our meal completely. We had ordered the special so we knew it shouldn't take long. We had to ask for it two or three times before our meal actually came. And then by this time, our lunch break time had run-up so we had to get our meals to go. Not fun. We vowed never to go back, but I know I'll try it again because the price was reasonable and I did enjoy the food. The decor, while casual, is nicely decorated in a traditional style."
