August 2008 — "The King & I is absolutely the best Thai food I have ever had in Calgary. Every dish is always absolutley perfect...so flavorful, aromatic and delicious. You never have to worry about cleanliness, quality or how fresh the food is. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is lovely, I have been eating at this restaurant for years now and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. This experience represents true value."

June 2007 — "I saw advertisements in local magazines for this restaurant and the pictures of the interior of the restaurant looked amazing. I decided to make reservations at this restaurant for 5 of my family members from out of town that love Thai food, but I had never been there before. The was lots of street parking in front of the restaurant, which was a bonus. As we entered the restaurant all I could smell was a strong scent of seafood, which was not pleasant. Upon entering with my family members we were seated in a beautifully decorated room. Everything was very modern and looked exactly as it did in the picture I had seen in the local magazine. We received our menu's and I was shocked by the prices. I have been to almost every Thai restaurant in Calgary and the prices were double that of everwhere else. Also, we found that there was a 15% automatic tip for all parties 6 and over. We were a party of 6. We all reviewed the extensive menu and made our selection. We were greeted by our server and ordered our drinks. None of us ordered any alcoholic beverages, though all of us were of age. The server spent a while trying to convince the men at our table to order beer. The men stuck with their pop and water. The server returned with the non alcoholic beverages and took our orders. The entres we ordered were between $25 - $35 each. After we completed ordering the server informed us that the entres would not be enough to fill us up. The prices for the Thai restaurant already seemed to be over priced, but now the entres at that price wouldn't be enough to fill us up? I wasn't impressed. The server pushed us to order additional dishes. Suddenly I looked over at my family members and we were all thinking the same thing. The server would not take no for an answer. We all nodded our heads and got up from the table. The server asked us why we were leaving. My grandmother told the server that she was too pushy. It seems that the server was more concerned with trying to make us spend more money than customer service. I'm sure the 15% automatic tip on all parties over 6 also had something to do with this. We all left and went to another Thai restaurant in the City, which we should have gone to in the first place. Even though I did not have a chance to taste the food at this restaurant, I would prefer to take my business somwhere else. None of us will be returning to the King & I. "

December 2006 — "The King and I is an upscale Thai eatery located near downtown. I spent a few months in Thailand and love the cuisine (I even took Thai cooking classes) so I'm always on the hunt for good, authentic Thai food. The atmosphere here is great and the food is, well, expensive. It's tasty but it's different from any Thai food I've had. My favourite dish is Penang Curry and at the King and I, it was really sweet and I'm not sure that it's supposed to be. It also wasn't spicy, despite the waitress telling me that I wouldn't be able to handle the spiciness. I also had another favourite dish, the Tom Kha Gai soup. Again, it was really sweet, and I've never had a sweet version of it before. Don't get me wrong -- it was good. But it was different. I didn't have dessert, but the menu was a list of traditional western dishes: cheesecake, chocolate mousse, things with whipped cream, etc. Then at the bottom were a couple of traditional Thai desserts, which should have been the highlighted desserts because it is, afterall, a Thai restaurant. I enjoyed my meal but I couldn't help thinking that this is the rich white man's version of Thai. I would recommend trying out Ruan Thai or Thai Sa On for a more authentic (not to mention affordable) Thai experience. "
