March 2011 — "Blue House Café has been in Calgary for more than two decades and rarely disappoints, at least for me. This intimate setting features Latin American cuisine with fresh seafood and fish, beef, lamb or chicken as a base for the tantalizing salsas and spices enjoyed in Latin American foods. Vegetarian dishes can be requested.
The Blue House is considered fine dining and the price tag accompanies it - the range is from about $7 (appetizer) to over $40 for an entrée. I've been to Blue House several times and have never been disappointed. I'm not a big eater so the portions are perfect for me but several people I've taken were left feeling there was not enough food; something to think about. This time I chose the Scallops Cartagena for $25 - a savoury dish of fresh scallops with a creamy caper and coconut sauce. I've had this before and loved it. This time I wasn't as satisfied - the coconut was so mild it could be missed, and there were very few vegetables in comparison to my past experience. The scallops were beautifully cooked and I really enjoyed the different flavor the capers brought to scallops.
A Flamenco guitar player serenaded us and, as always, we enjoyed the calm and cozy feeling. Hint: don't sit near the door as it can get chilly in the winter. The service is friendly and quick and the restaurant is very clean. If you are looking for an authentic Latin American taste experience, the Blue House Café is a good choice.

March 2011 — "The Blue House Cafe has been around for a lot of years. The restaurant has a very good reputation for well-prepared meals. Although a bit on the pricey side, the great taste is definitely there. I tried their special which was Salmon and Prawns in a creamy sauce, ($32) and served with rice and vegetables. I must say it was delicious. I ate slowly and savoured each bite. Although the portions were not large, there was enough food to satisfy, and if we would have ordered appetizers it would have been more than enough for me. Their house wine is Gato Negro, a wine from Chile. I have noticed that a fair number of restaurants use it as their house wine, probably because it is drinkable and inexpensive. According to the server, Gato Negro has been the Vino de la Casa for 26 years. He was efficient and friendly and added to our enjoyment. If you are looking for an intimate little restaurant that often features latin style acoustic guitar playing softly in the background, and serves up great meals, check out the Blue House Cafe. "

This restaurant is tucked away on a quite suburban street and has a unique Latin American flair. South American inspired seafood and meat dishes are the specialty. Live music is featured from Thursday to Saturday.
