June 2011 — "My friend insisted I try the Orchid Room so I finally decided, why not? When we walked in the girl asked if we had a reservation and seemed somewhat miffed when we didn't, despite that she did find us a table and quite quickly. The ambiance was amazing as the decor is absolutely breath taking -- it literally is an orchid room. Aside from the decor however, everything else seemed pretty sub par. Our Server took quite a long time to take our order and wasn't overly pleasant. Our food came out and although I love Pad Thai, this particular version was not the Pad Thai I was envisioning. I think the meal could have used more peanut flavour and perhaps a little more kick, the sauce seemed somewhat bland and there weren't many noodles -- mostly bean sprouts and celery. Once finished our meals, which took longer than anticipated, we were ready for the bill so we asked our server when she came to offer dessert. The server seemed unimpressed at the idea of us only ordering a meal and no extras and to make it worse we asked for the bill split. We didn't think splitting the bill seemed like a big deal as there were only two of us and we ordered the same thing, but apparently she thought it was. Although the lunch rush had come and gone it seemed like our server couldn't wait to get us out of there and I was especially annoyed that the auto tip button on the debit machine was a 20% rather than the standard 15% because I was beginning to think she deserved 0%. "

December 2008 — "Located in Bankers Hall, I like the Orchid Room because it's easy to forget where you are. I really love the decor, and the service is great. Their specialty teas are divine, and I love the little orchid placed on every plate and place setting. It makes me feel glamorous, but also relaxed, to be here.
As a vegetarian, and also a picky eater from childhood, I used to struggle with food a little bit. But I have to tell you that the Lemongrass dish at Orchid Room is what first turned me around on both tofu and broccoli. The tofu was crisp on the outside and silky on the inside, and the broccoli soaked up the lemongrass flavour better than any other vegetable on the plate. I was hooked, and it's still my favouite item on the menu."

December 2006 — "I went to the Orchid room for a friends birthday on a friday night in December. It's located in Bankers Hall, which was completely deserted by 7pm on Friday. We sat on the 'patio', which doesn't really go outside -- it let out into the mall, which was neat because obviously it was too cold for patios. Everything in the restaurant -- the tables, the bathrooms, the food -- was simply yet beautifully decorated with real orchids and modern, Asian-inspired decor. We shared the salad rolls, which were pretty good, and I had the coconut soup, which was also pretty good and really spicy. We finished off with Mango creme brulee, which was absolutely divine. My only complaint is that it seemed a bit overpriced. We ended up paying quite a bit for a meal that we could have gotten at the local Vietnamese dive for less than $10. "

DescriptionOnce called Indochine, the Orchid Room is an elegant Vietnamese cuisine with a French accent. Appetizers include mussels with garlic and ginger. Main dish crepes are made with rice and turmeric. Lunch reservations recommended. Mon to Sat 11 am - 9 pm.
