January 2012 — "Unless you are a vegetarian there is pretty much no way you can't love the Keg! I have never had a bad experience with anything I've ordered from the Keg and this visit was no exception! I particularly love the Mount Royal location because it feels much trendier and it is close to home. My friend and I sort of went all out but our excuse was that it was a post holiday celebration. We ordered crab cakes to start and lychee martinis while we waited in the bar for our table (great way to spend time waiting). The martinis were delicious but the bartender packed them with ice which was unusual, and our crab cakes were perfect. The hostess came in and found us in perfect timing, just after we finished our appetizer -- it was really great that they transfered our bar bill right onto our dinner bill so we didn't need to worry about squaring up before we moved on. Our server was very friendly and with the combination of perfectly cooked steak, delicious lobster and new martinis requested sans ice, we were a happy duo!"

November 2011 — "We headed to the Keg at the Stadium Shopping Centre in NW Calgary on a Friday around 4:30pm for an early dinner. When we arrived we had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table, but when we did get one we were seated at a quiet, intimate booth. Our server greeted us right away and let us know about the specials. However, we already knew what we wanted before we arrived - the Prime Rib Classic Dinner, which comes with salad, prime rib, vegetables and potatoes. I absolutely love going to the Keg for prime rib early in the evening because it is usually so fresh and perfectly cooked at medium rare. Our server actually said that my theory is correct that the best time is early evening, but only after a very busy evening before, otherwise they use the leftovers. The Caesar Salad was very good and a big portion. I told the waiter about my allergies to nuts and shellfish and he took it very seriously, which I appreciated. The prime rib, as I suspected, was absolutely delicious, melt-in-your mouth good. It was served with red peppers, squash and button mushrooms. The entire experience was exceptional. The service was outstanding and the food was well above average. This Keg gets an A+. "

April 2011 — "My family, some out of town relatives and I went to The Keg in Downtown at the last minute for a nice dinner. However, we were at first a little hesitant because my brother is highly allergic to peanuts. But after taking our time with the menu and letting our server know about my brother's allergy, the manager came out and personally handed us an ingredient list of menu items. Then when the food was being handed out to our table, the manager personally gave my brother's dish. We thoroughly appreciated the service and the fact that the server did not just assume there were no peanuts in the menu. It put us ease and did not make us worry for the entire night about whether my brother was okay. We really enjoyed the attention and care of the staff and would recommend this location highly!"

"Great Service, with a Great Steak"

August 2010 — "My wife an I decided to hit the Keg Steakhouse's downtown location on 11th Ave. We did have some issue finding suitable parking in the area, but the construction did not help matters. When we arrived, we were promptly attended to and seated. My wife ordered the prime rib classic dinner, while I settled for the Top Sirloin Classic. We did not bother ordering appetizers as we felt that dinner would be large enough. I typically order my steaks medium rare, but after reading the menu's description and their definition of a medium rare steak, I opted to have mine medium. My wife ordered her prime rib medium rare. When we received our meals, I was very glad that I ordered it medium. It seems that their definition of a medium rare steak is somewhat more rare than other restaurants I have been too. However, their descriptions in the menu are spot on. The steak I had was tender and juicy as was my wife's prime rib. We were both very satisfied with our orders. While I am not normally one for baked potatoes, the one that came with the meal was very satisfying. For me, the condiments of butter, chives, bacon bits and sour creme made it that much better. While we were both pretty full after our main course meal, we decided to share a desert. We ordered the brownie sundae. Glad we shared this as it was definitely large enough for the two of us, and tasted wonderful. The ambiance, food and service were great, and we would definitely go back to this location. While it was not a cheap restaurant, I would say that the meal was well worth it. Highly recommended."

March 2010 — "On a recent Friday evening we decided to dine at the Keg in Marlborough. I hadn't been there in a very long time, but my wife had a gift certificate to use. When we arrived around 730pm, we weren't surprised to see a long lineup of people waiting to be seated. We were told it would take 20 or 30 minutes for a table, but to our surprise it took less than 5 minutes because were the only table of 2! We were seated in a nice, small booth for 2 and our server greeted us promptly. I ordered the chicken and ribs with fries and was not disappointed with the quality and portion. My wife had the prime rib dinner with baked potato and caesar salad and I ended up eating most of the ceasar. It was very tasty and the bread they served was also good. Throughout our meal the server was very attentive and she even filled my gingerale several times throughout the meal... top notch. I was impressed with this Keg, even though it was very busy, the food still came out in a somewhat timely manner and tasted great."

"Great Prime Rib!"

October 2009 — "I know steak lovers every where like to complain about franchise restaurants, but The Keg, however commercialized is still on the top of my list for a great Prime Rib. I can always count on the consistency of quality of my meat here. We arrived at the Marlborough location on a Saturday night and I ordered the Prime Rib. When it arrived and I had a few bites, I did let the waiter know that the steak was done slightly more well done than I would have liked and they immediately offered to take it back and bring me another piece. Since he was so insistent, I complied. The new prime rib was just fantastic and I was very pleased that the waiter offered to make that change for me, although I would have just gone ahead and eaten the other one anyway. We also started with their fresh baked bread which always gets my appetite going along with an order of their crab stuffed mushrooms. All was very good. When the bill came at the end of the meal, I realized that they also comp’d the steak that they took back! Now, this is great service and I appreciated it. I ended up leaving what I would have spent anyway as a tip, but I would not hesitate to come back here."

July 2009 — "Recently visited the Keg located in the Westin hotel in Calgary. The décor is very nice with beautiful paintings and impressive wine displays throughout the restaurant. We were seated at a table very near the fireplace which on a cool day I could see to be very welcoming but on the day I visited I found it to be a little warm. It did lend nicely to the ambience though. Our server was very friendly although dropped almost a full tray of drinks when resting the tray on an unstable surface. We ordered a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and the shrimps were very large and succulent. There was a special on the day that I visited of a NY strip steak topped with lobster and shrimp in a rich buttery sauce. While it was good, I ordered my steak medium-rare and I found that when they topped it with the lobster and shrimp sauce which was warm, it left my steak more medium-well than medium-rare. I have found my visits to the Keg to be inconsistent and therefore would probably choose a different steakhouse in the future."

"Nice Tender Steak"

January 2009 — "My boyfriend and I were craving a nice steak dinner, so we figured we would head to a restaurant that specializes in steak. We ended up at the Keg on Uxbridge Drive. I found this location of the Keg spacious and liked the cozy feel that the dim lighting and fire place created. I ordered from the steak-dominated menu a well done teriyaki sirloin, which came with a baked potato. The teriyaki sirloin was delicious. It was tender and full of flavour. I also liked the three cheese topping that was on the baked potato. The only problem we had with this Keg location was the wait. Several patrons who arrived significantly after us received their meal at the same time we finally did. However, our waiter did apologize for the wait and offered us a complimentary dessert. But, unfortunately due to prior obligations we had no time to take him up on his offer. "

September 2008 — "My husband and I went to the Keg to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Our first gift from the Keg was a water glass that was crusted with dried food particles, our waitress exclaimed ,"how disgusting" and went to get me a new glass. I was watching as she went through the selection of glasses and saw that she checked them for cleaniness and was able to bring me a clean glass after her 4th try. The second gift was given when my husband opened his serviette with the utensils and there was a big bug's exoskeleton. Our waitress took it away returning with a new set and said " I hope you don't find anymore gems in there". Then when we finally get our food my husband's steak was too rare and there were black flecks in his mushrooms and veggies . My grilled shrimp were charcoaled, rice was ice cold. Our waitress never returned to check on our meal. This restaraunt went from being one that we liked going to - to never again and no recommendations as a great place to eat. Now I know why the lights are kept so low."

"Swish and Tasty"

September 2008 — "I think this Keg location is pretty new (3rd St and 4th Ave)--located in the Westin Hotel, it's easy to miss as there doesn't appear to be a separate street entrance for the restaurant itself. Therefore, most of the patrons are probably hotel guests, but this is a secret that should be shared. This upscale Keg offers more than the typical Keg locations around the city. A highly stylish, dimly-lit interior adds to both a tranquil and exciting atmosphere, and the steak really is cooked to perfection. The Keg at the Westin is a very swish yet comfortable (while the setting is fancy, the guests are casual) and terrifically tasty dining experience. And check out the plush bathrooms!"

November 2007 — "I've been to The Keg located near McMahon Stadium a couple of times and have left both times impressed with the service. I found the staff to be courteous, prompt and full of energy. The atmosphere is fun and casual, however it can get pretty busy and loud quick (I don't really mind but my boyfriend did). We were there at 5pm and it was already quite full. The food is tasty, although I would not recommend the rice they serve as a side dish, it is really bland with absolutely no flavor."

September 2007 — "I don't eat beef, I find it chewy and without flavour... but on a visit to the Keg in the northeast, I gave beef a chance and ordered a rib eye steak. I actually really liked it! It was tender, juicy and had flavour to it. The sides that were included with my meal were also very tasty... although the fried breaded onion strips were a bit strange in the beginning."

"A Place for Kids Too"

September 2007 — "At a recent visit to the Keg for my wife's birthday dinner, I went with my children and in-laws. We were hesitant about taking the kids to this restaurant but we found it was not a problem at all. We were worried about the noise level with our children but the restaurant was very busy and our kids blended right in. They even had great kids meal choices on the menu. The pricing was reasonable for the kids too. Each child was given an appetizer plate of crackers and fresh veggies and dip. This was great to keep the kids occupied while we waited for our meals, along with the coloring they were given. My one daughter ordered ribs and the portion was very generous for a kids meal. My other daughter ordered a sirloin burger and we were surprised to find out that she got two mini burgers and fries. Great idea for kids. I had the steak and crab legs combo and it was excellent. The crab legs and warm butter were delicious and I even had to share with my kids! The steak was done to perfection, just as I had ordered. The pricing at the Keg is on the higher side, with each meal ranging from $20 to $35 dollars. We also had a great waiter for our visit that was very patient with my picky father-in-law. The service was great and fast considering the restaurant was packed that night. I would recommend this restaurant as great family upscale dining with wonderful food."

"The Best Beef Dip...Still"

August 2007 — "I have never been a huge fan of The Keg for dinner. I always find it to be just too expensive for both the quality of the food and the dining atmosphere. I am however a huge fan of it for lunch. Several years ago we stopped by the NE location for lunch in the lounge and were thrilled to find what we have long since claimed to be the best Beef Dip around. The beef was stacked high on a toasted loaf and came served with these great fries that were cut in a mesh pattern. All of this for under $10 bucks! We recently found ourselves hungry near the MacLeod Trail location on a Saturday afternoon and decided to pop in for one of our favorite lunches. The first change we noticed since last going was that our beloved Beef Dip was no longer under $10 and was now $12.95. Darn inflation! When our Beef Dips arrived we noticed a few other changes. They no longer came with those neat fries and now contained both cheese and mushrooms! The beef was still stacked high and came on that same toasted loaf. I still enjoyed it but can't help longing for that original beef dip. Why must things change! Even with these changes I have yet to find a better beef dip than the one on The Keg lunch menu."

March 2007 — "I recently ate at the Keg on 5th Street and 11th Avenue (downtown location) and left a little disappointed. The atmosphere was nice, the service was great and the portions were big -- but my steak was average. Maybe below average. I usually don't order steak at restaurants, except when I go to the Keg. That's what it's known for and that's why I go. So, to be served a somewhat dry, grizzly sirloin is quite the let down."

October 2006 — "I have visited the Stadium Keg in Northwest Calgary many times, including last weekend. I am quite in love with the tenderloin meal (high $20 range) and my husband always gets the prime rib meal (mid $20 range). Last weekend I was very satisfied with our experience. The waiter was attentive and friendly, the food came out in a timely manner, the wine was devine, the ambience was good and the overall experience was fantastic. I have tried many steakhouses in Calgary and I must say that when you are looking for a reasonably priced steakhouse, try the Keg. You pay for what you get."

"Lobster"

August 2006 — "Well, it wasn't bad, and perhaps bordering on good, but certainly not fantastic. We went to The Keg on 11th Ave (the old Electric Avenue) last night. I had lobster and there was nothing to complain about here. It was a lobster. It was hot. Came with butter. And a potato. Simple. Good. It cost about $32 and I'd say it was worth it. My husband had a sirloin steak and he enjoyed it ($23). It was a tad dry because he ordered it medium well (silly boy) but even for that it seemed over done. The others in our party had steak and lobster, and someone had chicken with seafood and everyone was impressed with the quality. To start we had calamari to share. Compared to other restaurants, it was a small portion for a calamari starter. It was okay, but far from the best calamari I've ever had. We also shared a crab and spinach dip and it was dreamy. I could have made a meal out of that alone. The only thing wrong with the visit was something that's a bit of an epidemic in Calgary at the moment: service. At first there was only one server for our whole section and it wasn't long before he was visiabley stressed out and this affected his courteousness to our table, and believe me, we are not high-maintenence. And they could have made more money had he asked us if we wanted more than one drink. "
