"Best Brunch in Town"

Save Review

March 2011 — "Smuggler's Inn has long been a staple on the brunch scene in Calgary and is still one of the best. For the price it is hard to beat the selection of choices at their breakfast buffet. It is located just off McLeod Trail and across the street from the Chinook Shopping Centre in the SW. The only time I have been to this restaurant and the only reason I visit is for the delicious breakfast buffet on Sunday mornings. It is a popular destination for many on Sunday mornings so it is best to make a reservation if you plan on visiting, especially if you are going with a larger group. What makes this brunch buffet special are the mammoth sized beef ribs and the freshly made waffles which are fluffy and light. These waffles can be topped with cherry or maple syrup as well as a serving of whipped cream. Best place for brunch in town."

"Great Alberta Beef"

Save Review

May 2010 — "When we first moved to Calgary we used to frequent this restaurant quite often and always brought out of town visitors to sample the Alberta Beef. I was never disappointed. Although we do not go as often as we used to, it is a special treat when we do. We always order the prime rib Cajun blackened which I believe the chef will cut any size you choose, but the menu offers three sizes, 12, 15 and 22 ounces. We ordered medium-rare and it came cooked to perfection. They now provide you with garlic mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding which is a welcome improvement. They have a nice salad and soup bar (Portuguese bean and sausage is my favourite) but they also had two other varieties. We always enjoy sitting in the old dining room which is cozy and dark and has large plush chairs or booths. There is also a fireplace if you are going in the colder months. They have a corkage fee of $12.50 if you wish to bring your own wine. Service was excellent as usual."

"Had to come back..."

July 2009 — "A friend brought me to Smugglers Inn about 7 years ago when I was in town for training. Since then, I kept telling myself I'll go back next time I'm here. So here I am. In town for one night. Where'd I go? Yup. Just as awesome as I remember. Can't wait to come back to town and hit Smugglers Inn again. Great service, unbelievable food. Thanks."

"Best Restaurant. Period."

December 2008 — "Smuggler's is my favorite restaurant. I love the steak soup and the rest of the salad bar. Sometimes all we get is the salad bar, for example when we plan on zipping across to Chinook after for a movie. It is so good. The rest of their food is delicious, and includes the salad bar. So affordable because of that. The atmosphere is also enjoyable. Fireplaces and dimmed lights make it cozy and private. "

"Best service in Calgary!!!"

April 2008 — "My boyfriend and I recently went to Smugglers Inn for the first time. When we first walked in there was a sign by the door giving us directions on where to find a hostess, this I found a little unprofessional and confusing. However, everything else was awesome. I really enjoyed the soup and salad bar option. The salad bar was very fresh and offered lots of choices. Our meals were pretty good too, the only thing I wasnt particular about was my asparagus which was way to oily. I had a salmon entree and my boyfriend had the prime rib with garlic prawns, both very delicious! Our server was amazing! She was extremely friendly but not over the top and she was also very knowledgable about the menu and drinks :) I left Smugglers saying, this was the best "eating out" experience I have ever had :) I would highly recommend Smugglers Inn to anyone!"

"Not A Bad Steakhouse!"

December 2006 — "We recently went to Smuggers Inn with some friends of ours that are addicted to the place. We were eager to try the steaks that the restaurant is renowned for and also wanted to taste the bean soup that is part of the salad bar. We got a table right in the corner, which was nice. It is pretty crowded in there and if you were sitting in the middle of the room it might get annoying because people might bump you. I ordered the 20oz New York and my wife ordered the Peppercorn Tenderloin. Our friends always get the Blackened Cajun Prime Rib. The salad bar was typical and the soups were okay, but the steaks were pretty tasty. We ordered ours medium rare, but they were more like blue rare in the middle. The baked potato with broccoli and cheddar was delicious. Smugglers was a good steakhouse with a unique atmosphere, but I guess in a way my expectations weren't met... I've had some really great steaks at other places around the city that surpass what we had at Smugglers."

"Love the salad bar"

April 2005 — "I'm not much of a red meat eater, but it doesn't matter at Sugglers because in addition to having a selection of great chicken and fish choices, they also have a great salad bar that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, dressings, soups, breads and much more. The atmosphere is pretty cool too - it's dark and medieval-looking with comfortable throne-sized chairs. It can be hard to see the menu though..."
