"Lousy Service"

March 2012 — "I have gone to many Brewsters around Western Canada over the years. I went recently with my husband, as we needed a place to have a quick bite while we wasted away time before a show one night. We had an awful experience and I dont think I will never go back to the downtown location ever again. I would also make sure to let all my friends know, that the food is bad, and the service from all the staff very lousy. There was plenty of room when we arrived. Many open tables. So we sat ourselves. We were put off for about 30 mintues before we had someone finally come talk to us and take our drink order. I couldnt believe that. We probly should've just left at that point. But sadly we stayed. We ordered burgers. First of all, our food took about 45 minutes to come. I had the worst side ceasar I have ever had. Soggy, wilted leaves, even soggier crutons, and seemed to have been sitting for days. When I finally got ahold of my server, my husband had already finished his plate. Which for the price, was not very appealing. Our server was quite rude when I told her about the salad, I sent it back for fries instead. It took even longer. I felt like I was being punished. Our bill was so expensive for what we got. And to boot we had rotten service. I will never go back there again. Terrible. "

"Neighbourhood Pub - Lake Bonavista"
Image

Save Review

January 2012 — "We just moved to the south and are still getting familiar with what restaurants are near us. When we were at a loss where to eat, we googled Brewsters and found there was a location in Lake Bonavista. It is kind of tucked away in a strip mall, but we eventually found it. I have been to other locations of Brewsters a lot, and am pretty used to their modern feel. This one was totally unlike any of the others. It looks like it hadn't been renovated in decades and the place was packed for the Flames game and wing night, and it seemed like everyone knew each other. We were lucky enough to find a booth and ordered some drinks and some wings to start. The wings were pretty good, not the best I've had, but definitely edible. I got the burger as a main. It was good, and the fries were too. Despite how busy the pub was, the service was still really good. Although this pub was different than the other Brewster's, I enjoyed myself and will go back."

"Accidents Happen?"

January 2012 — "I decided to meet my wife for lunch downtown this week. I asked where she wanted to go...and it was a quick answer - Brewster for a Beef Dip...I'm not a Beef Dip fan but I gave in. We walked in and were seated promptly..it was busy, as is every restaurant at lunch time in the core I expect. She ordered the Beef Dip with sweat-potato fries and I decided to pass and got the Brewsters Burger and fries. The food came out pretty promptly my burger was placed down and then it happened....as the poor waitress went the place my wife's plate down she dropped the scalding hot aujus all over my wife....did I mention she was wearing a white tee-shirt? Well its brown now, but who is counting? My wife did a lot better than I though she would, she stayed much calmer than would have with hot beef juice dripping from me! Her meal was obviously comped...but to be truthful the service after that lagged. Our drinks were left empty, and we had to ask for the bill. I was a little disappointed....but hey....accidents happen - and the poor girl I am sure wanted to die from embarrassment...but then again - so did my poor wife that then had to go back to the office in a brown stained shirt smelling like her lunch! :("

"Wonderful Patio"

August 2011 — "I recently went to the Brewster's in McKenzie Towne for a late lunch with a friend. It was a hot day and we got a table on the gorgeous rooftop patio. I was very impressed with the ambiance on the patio. There are a ton of tables yet it didn't seem crowded. Also lots of nice lounging areas with sofas and comfortable chairs, some tables with umbrellas, some without. Our server was very friendly and I ordered their raspberry ale, which was very refreshing and delicious on a hot day. Some people might be disappointed to find that Brewster's only serves their own beers, however, their beer is great in my opinion. I've heard many great things about the beef dip at Brewster's but I was in the mood for a burger so ordered the Brewster burger at our server's suggestion. It was huge. I really wasn't sure how I was going to eat it without it getting everywhere. They sure didn't slight me on the toppings! The burger was delicious and all of the ingredients tasted very fresh. My friend ordered the legendary beef dip and let me have a bite. I'll be ordering that next time I eat at Brewster's. I was very pleased with my experience there and am looking forward to eating at Brewster's more often."

"Crowfoot Location"

July 2011 — "I visited the Crowfoot location of Brewsters on a Friday evening right when the Stampede started. It was totally packed in the restaurant and there was a 15 minute way, so we got one of the last tables in the lounge, which was also very packed. Our server greeted us pretty quickly and took our drink order. We decided to start with some honey hot wings, which turned out to be very good. For my main I got the beef dip with fries, and like always, it was delicious. It doesn't matter what location you go to, that is one menu item that is outstanding anywhere. They had a bunch of specialty burgers on for the Stampede and my wife got one called the Cowboy burger. It was supposed to be spicy, but it wasn't too bad so I ate half of it. It was decent, but I am not sure if I'd order it myself. Overall it was a good experience and if I'm in the Crowfoot area, I will definitely come back to this Brewsters."

"A Fine Brew-Pub"

Save Review

May 2011 — "Checked out the Brewsters in Mackenzie Towne for a late night dinner and pint not too long ago, and was pleased to find a brew-pub in Calgary that doesn't rest on the laurels of just its beverages. I was expecting nothing more than maybe ordering some nachos and a pint, but when handed the menu was surprised to find a vast array of items that wouldn't be out of place in restaurants such as Earl's or Moxies. I ordered a flat-crust pizza to go along with a very dark pint of ale (the name of which I can't remember, but it contained a hint of coffee in its taste). Our server was very knowledgeable and in fact recommend the above brew when I told her what I was looking for. She also made sure to check our table regularly, even though the place was bustling. When our food arrived, the full spectrum of what Brewsters has to offer was on display, from quesadilla and cheese stuffed ravioli to the aforementioned pizza and a burger with fries, the presentation of everything was really well done and in my case the pizza had a taste to match. If you're in the deep south and looking for a little more than pub-fare definitely try Brewsters."

"Great selection of beers"
Image

Save Review

May 2011 — "Brewsters has long been a favorite choice for a pint of beer in Calgary. With their many locations around town there is surely one close to your neighborhood. The location I most frequently visit is the Crowfoot outdoor strip mall. It has a decent patio and the service is generally friendly and fast. There is a dining area with plenty of booths and also a lounge area which has a varied selection of sports playing in multiple big screen TV's. But what makes Brewsters stand out from other pubs in the area is the quality of their food and their large selection of beers. True to its name Brewsters pints are brewed by the owners and there are plenty of unique flavors to pick from. Its difficult to pick just one beer from the oversized menus. One of my favorite brews is the raspberry. It is light and has just a hint of raspberry taste but there are plenty of others to discover for yourself."

"Highly Under-Rated Beer and Grub"

Save Review

February 2011 — "We went to the location on 11th Ave SW during the Friday lunch hour rush and we were seated promptly, then told the specials of the day by the hostess. Brewsters has a constantly evolving menu with seasonal specials and seasonal beers. My buddy and I both had burgers from the normal menu although the special menu looked really good. He had the lamb burger ($13.99) which I recommended to him as being delicious and juicy and he couldn't agree more. I had the green chili bison burger ($14.99) which was ok. It never fails that bison being so lean is always dry. That's the price you pay for choosing the healthier option. The green chili's had a nice bite though. The prices are a little high but it I'm sure the rent is too. We both had fries which were good but I never forget to get a side of beer mustard which is made in house. It's an amazing creamy mustard that is fantastic for dipping fries into rather than boring ketchup. I can't go to Brewsters without having some micro-brewed goodness. I had a pint of Hammerhead Red Ale which has a nice red sweet flavour and a pint of Blueberry Pale Ale which is a lighter wheaty beer infused with blueberries. It sounds fruity but it's not sweet at all. Again the prices are a little high at $6.60/pint. A person would think since they make it in-house it should be cheaper. It's quality though. The service was quite fast for having a packed house. They have TV's for sports lovers, and VLT's for people who like to give even more of their income to the government. Worth going to this brew pub which was borne in good ole' Strasbourg, Saskatchewan."

"Great Experience"

February 2011 — "When doing errands in the south part of the city, we decided to visit the Mackenzie Towne location of Brewster's. I love their food and had never visited this particular location. We went around noon or so on a Saturday and the lounge was fairly busy but we chose to sit in the restaurant, which was pretty dead. The atmosphere is very nice with booths and tables and TV screens showing sports. Our server greeted us right away and brought our drinks and took our appetizer order - hot wings. When they arrived I thought there were a lot of them and they looked good. When I tried them I thought they were really good, perfectly cooked and tasty. They were served with a mustard aioli which also hit the spot. For my main I had the green chili burger which was topped with havarti, jalapeños, etc. It was spicy! I had to actually take some of the jalapenos off because there were still seeds in them. The burger was just ok, which was surprising since I usually love everything at Brewster's. The fries were really good though. I also ate half of my wife's beef dip, which was great as usual. Overall, our experience was very, very good. The service was excellent, even when our server went home and we got a new one. If I'm down in the south of the city I will definitely visit this location again."

"Trendy Brewhouse"

August 2010 — "Brewhouse is one of my favourite restaurants. With the cozy restaurant atmosphere it is a great place for a date or family gathering. The lounge area provides a more upbeat atmosphere for sports nights or fun nights out as well. The menu offers a great selection of items, and they all have a interesting or exotic twist to the average. To wash down the delicious food, one can select from a dozen in house made beers. The prices are reasonable for the quality received, and there are even daily specials on beer and food. I would definitely recommend to any whom haven’t tried it as of yet. "

"I'm becoming a fan"

July 2010 — "I think I'm becoming a fan of Brewsters. I'd been to the downtown location a couple of times (love the beef dip!) but didn't know there was a Brewsters at Crowfoot until we stumbled across it looking for somewhere to eat dinner before our movie started. Although I was excited to discover it, I didn't think we'd be in and out quick enough for our movie, which started in an hour. To our surprise, they could seat us immediately and were pretty prompt with service. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be (the downtown location is swarming at lunchtime) but its menu has the same delicious favourites. I decided to broaden my horizons and resisted the beef dip, ordering the portabello & prosciutto tordelli, which was extremely tasty and well sized and came with a perfectly toasted and seasoned slice of garlic toast. My hubby got the blackened steak quesadilla (a very generous portion considering it was an appetizer!) and a side of fries. Also very yummy. Having been to two Brewsters locations now, I heartily recommend it as a very dependable place for consistently good food and service."

"Surprisingly Fantastic"

July 2010 — "Crowfoot - I think I usually have low expectations for certain types of pubs which I was expecting from this brewery style pub but it is a fantastic place. I have been there about 3 times in the last 2 months, both for supper and for a late night drinks and appy's with friends. I like everything about Brewsters! They have a restaurant and a pub side, which both have a nice comfortable feel. The pub side can get very crowded in the evening on the weekend. They have a huge list of beers they brew on the menu, I have tried several and my favorite is the blueberry beer. They also have a large variety of appetizers that are excellent. I usually order one of their full meal salads with grilled fish and it is healthy and delicious! I will continue to visit this place often and would recommend people give it a try. "

"It Was Okay"

June 2010 — "Met some friends for happy hour and wings on a Tuesday, unfortunately the weather was not nice enough for us to sit on the great looking patio, so we sat inside which has been renovated since my last visit. There seems to be more high bar stool type tables that I am not a huge fan of, but there are still some booths and a few regular tables. We were lucky enough to get the last regular table available, which unfortunately was located right beside the VLT machines and the washrooms. As the wings were on special that evening for 25 cents, that is what we ordered. They arrived at our table quite quickly, but unfortunately they were not very hot when they arrived and I felt like they were cooked earlier and then served to us. The beer was good as usual and the wine was acceptable. We would return but have other neighbourhood pubs that we prefer. Service was good. "

March 2010 — "I hadn't been to Brewster's in years and when my wife suggested we dine there before heading to a game at the dome, I thought it sounded like good idea. We visited the one on 11th ave and 8th Street SW early on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy when we got there so we got a table by the window. Our server greeted us and brought us drinks right away. My wife had been there the day before for lunch and couldn't stop raving about the beef dip, so I ordered that with fries and gravy. I'm glad I did since it was absolutely delicious. The only thing that I didn't like is that the fries were very salty, but otherwise it was great. The beef dip comes with horseradish aioli, jalepeno jack cheese, carmelized onions etc. Wow. I also tried some of my wife's beef quesadilla and it was good too, but a bit spicy. I was really pleased with the quality of the food that we were served. I don't know why I haven't been to Brewster's in a long time, but we'll definitely be back soon."

"Great beer, good food"

September 2009 — "Brewster's is a micro-brewery with a dozen different specialty brews which offers a change from having to drink the same old, warm draught found in other establishments. Their beers are quite good, especially the Hammerhead Red Ale and the Bow Valley Brown. Both are strongly flavourful brews. I don't like fruit in my beer, but a person I was with ordered the Raspberry Wheat Ale which came with frozen raspberries floating in it. I like the variety of beers here. I ordered the steak sandwich ($15) and was impressed with the garlic and rosemary slice of toast they served it on. The steak had a bit of spice to it that made it go well with the Brown Ale. My dinner companion ordered the prime rib cheddar burger which received a good grade. They had changed the menu since the last time I was in, but they still have a good variety of meal options to go with the beer. The price seemed a bit heavy for the amount of food, however. If they took about three or four bucks off everything on their menu, it would be more balanced. Other than that, I like Brewster's and their collection of tasty beers. It's worth a visit."

"A Great Place"

August 2009 — "What a great place! I liked everything about Brewsters! I loved the list of beers on the back of the menu, and I could return again and again just to sample them. A 60 oz. jug of any of the beers was on special for $13. I tried the Irish Ale, which was a fairly dark and medium to full-bodied. It definitely had flavor and I knew I was drinking a beer, not one of the watery concoctions from some well known breweries. Brewsters is dimly lit with a candle on each table on the restaurant side, but I didn't check out the pub side. The soft lighting is very complimentary to skin, so it may be a good place to go on a date. Available starters included chicken wings, calamari, prawns quesadilla and much more. Most were around $11. For my entree, I chose the Thai Chicken Wrap and the soup of the day which was tomato and salmon. The soup was absolutely delicious! I savored every spoonful of that tart and creamy flavour. The wrap was delightful as well. The zing of the sweet thai chili sauce worked wonders on the chicken and veggies. I highly recommend this meal! And for only $11! The place was fairly busy, but it was a Friday evening. Check out Brewsters!"

"Great Dining Spot"

December 2008 — "This is a great dining spot to try in Calgary's northwest area. Brewsters has a wide variety of dishes on the menu ranging from traditional beef and chicken dishes to exotic Asian salads. I highly recommend their Chicken Cordon Brew which is so tender and juicy that it melts in your mouth. I've always found the food here to be delicious with fresh seasonal ingredients. One of my favourite things about this restaurant is that it has its own little micro brewery attached and they serve up a variety of ales ranging from light and fruity to dark and heavy as well as seasonal brews for winter and summer months. The restaurant's menu also recommends the perfect ale to compliment your meal and I found their suggestions helpful in deciding which brew to order. The restaurant is clean, modern and the service is good. This is a great place to dine at any time but I always enjoy sitting on their patio during the summer and sipping on one of their fruity ales."

October 2006 — "I have been a fan of Brewsters for a long time. Yesterday we visited the Crowfoot location for lunch and were yet again pleased with the overall experience. We were on a short timeline and even though the restaurant was quite full with the lunch crowd, our server ensured us that our food would be out quickly and that we could be out of there in an hour. She was right. I ordered the California quesadilla with a whole wheat tortilla and it was very delicious. My husband got the Chicken Greek Wrap (it had a different name like Tatzalaki or something like that) and he said it tasted healthy, but was good. Our friends had a pizza and the prime rib burger and there were no complaints there. I will be visiting Brewsters again."
