March 2012 — "March 8/12 - I took a date to dinner at Teatro, known as one of the finest places in town, in the centre of the Arts Distict.
It was a little out of our league for regular dining, but it was a special occasion, so I splurged.
The ambience was great - high ceilings, elegant fixtures, polite & helpful staff, and an open kitchen area with copper fittings that just made a great atmosphere as we watched some of the food preparation.
A variety of table shapes & sizes allow for parties of various sizes, including half-booths that I call a 'loveseat' design - nice & romantic.
We both went for the striploin steak sous vide - a method of cooking where the meat is sealed in airless plastic & boiled to the right consistency.
"Well-done" doesn't work well with many good steaks, but these were as perfect as they can get! Not huge servings, as one might expect in a high-end restaurant, but certainly meal enough.
The sweet potato with the steak is shaped & served like a small layer cake - wonderful!
At $49, it's the most costly main item on the menu** but well worth the cost.
**The online menu, which we'd checked out before going, was outdated, so the actual costs were 15% or so higher than plan. This was the only low point of the evening, and a note was sent to update the website. Hopefully this will be rectified ASAP...
The wine selection seemed endless - from $8 glasses to $3,000 bottles, we are not wine connoisseurs, so I settled on a glass of Californian red Pinot Noir "Meiomi" & she had a French white "Vouvray".
Both excellent wines and reasonable value for a place like this.
All in all, for those whose lunches often include a sub or burger, this was an expensive meal, but we both had good food, nice wine, a fun time, and a special evening made even more so by the ambience.
A great spot for the theatre crowd for a before- or after- meal.

February 2012 — "I have always wanted to go to Teatro, so when a opportunity came through on Dealfind, I snatched it up! I paid $35 for $80 worth of food and drink. Upon walking in, I was immediately impressed with the atmosphere and the decor. The high ceilings and beautiful European design make it feel airy and open and the perfect, low lighting added to the grandeur! The service was amazing. Our server helped to make our meal very memorable. We started with the Charcuterie board which came with various smoked meats, olives, pickles, and both pork and rabbit pate. Amazing! We also ordered a cheese board, which was disappointing. All of the 3 cheeses selected were extremely strong and a strange pick I thought. We split a porcinni mushroom ravioli, which was absolutely delicious! I found the portions to be good value. For dessert, I definitely recommend trying the trio of mini Creme Brulees. There is one chocolate, one mocha and one vanilla. What a perfect finish! The wine was great, the service even better and the night unforgettable. Thank you Teatro! "

February 2012 — "What a wonderful evening we spent at Teatro Restaurant!
My sister and I have been talking about going out to Teatro for some time now. We finally made our reservations and went last weekend.
Make sure to make a reservation or you wont get a table!
Upon entering we waited a couple minutes only, and were asked if we would like to check our jackets. We did, and then they seated us in a cozy little corner near the window.
Everything from start to end was professional and we felt like we were princesses. Treated like absolute royalty throughout the entire evening.
Our waiter was very kind to us, and brought us complimentary glasses of wine. Fusion Red wine a very beautiful blend.
To start we ordered to cheese platter and the meat and olive platter.
It was quite lovely, to take our time small bites combining different meats, cheeses, pattes and olives.
We shared an entree for our main. The Mushroom tortellini which was devine. Topped with a very special mushroom foam.
As our Dessert we shared the Creme Brulee Sampler, which came with 3 different Creme Brulees. Coffee, Vanilla, and Chocolate. A must try.
We finished our evening off with a Bluberry Tea. Which is a warm orange pekoe tea with the orange and apricot flavors of Grand Marnier and Amaretto. A perfect finish to a perfect evening. We Will be going back again i'm sure. If you are looking for a special place downtown then book your teatro dining experience tonight!!! Sure to be a favorite for years to come.

August 2011 — "Having previously tried out this place, I was not overly surprised to see that the restaurant was a wallet buster. It was a positive that a couple of weeks ago, there was a promo and we used that but even with the coupon, the dinner was definitely my budget for the week. On the up side, when you dine at Teatro, you are sure to get some pretty good service and some decent food. I mean, it was a good meal, but I don't know if it would bring me back over and over again, even if I had an unlimited budget. To share, we had some of the fried calamari, which was good, but I must say, was not as good compared to my fav, Broken Plate, especially when it comes to the proportion. The one dish that we had that was different was the bison Tartare. It was rather satisfying, but I guess it isn't a share friendly dish because the crackers that came with it did add to the dish but it was so small that we just ended up eating the dish with bread. My star of the meal was the Honey Rosemary Seared Duck Margret, which was nice, but I didn't care for the sides very much. it was sort of off putting for me. Passable and not too bad. We also finished the meal with my fav, some tiramisu. It was yummy, but personally, I'm more of a tiramisu cake type of person. Give it a try though. You may be surprised. "

April 2011 — "An upscale Italian restaurant situated on Stephen Avenue, this place offers fresh seasonal Italian fare.
I felt a little adventurous and tried the Honey-Rosemary Seared Duck Breast Magret, which was accompanied by polenta verde, caramelized cippolini, and pancetta-mission fig fricassee. The baked risotto cake on this main dish was something I never experienced before. It was perfectly done. The duck breast was precisely sliced when it arrived on the table. The meat was succulent and full of flavor.
A market rotisseri is available during dinner service. The special that night was a pork roast, a whole pig on the rotisseri. Unfortunately, the pork arrived a little dry even though the portion was reasonable.
Teatro offers an array of antipasti (starters), which is overpriced compared to other restaurants of similar service and quality. However, Teatro does offer one of the best wine selections in the city.
Dinner concluded with tiramisu and a bread pudding, both of which satisfied my sweet taste buds. Dessert was done with extensive attention to detail. This did not go unnoticed during the presentation.
Overall, a great restaurant for entertaining important guests or celebrating special occasions.

August 2007 — "Went there for my birthday, had the nicest waitress who didn't know it was my birthday, but brought out an item that was on the dinner menu, eventhough we showed up for lunch. I was with 3 other people, we all ordered different appetizers and main dishes, unfortunately, they all tasted cheap and I felt very unsatisfied and drained of money all for nothing. "
