"Wow. Amazing"

March 2012 — "Friends have been telling me to try this restaurant for ages and I'm glad I finally listened. It was amazing. The food was incredible -- we had the portobello mushroom appetizer (which I think is what everyone gets and what they are famous for, and rightly so -- it's one of the tastiest dishes I have had ever.) We followed it up with some pasta dishes, which were all incredible. In fact, the lasagna was so tasty, I don't know how I'll be able to go back to regular lasagnas. We topped it off with a dessert to share -- it was also fantastic. The service was prompt, friendly and professional. The decor is a little bland but the food more than makes up for it. The prices are definitely on the expensive side, making this place only a "once in a while" indulgence, but one that is totally worth it for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. "

"Nice Restaurant"

June 2011 — "We visited this restaurant on a weeknight, since we had tried to eat here on a weekend but they were quite busy. Needless to say, on a Tuesday night it was a quiet restaurant, as there were only 2 other tables occupied while we were there. We ordered 2 appetizers - the bruschetta and the portabello stuffed mushroom. Both were excellent. We were happy with our main courses, we tried the cannelloni, veal marsala and shrimp linguini. Dessert was really good (raspberry tartufo was the best!) and so was the service. Although we were the only table left at the end of the night, we did not feel rushed at all. This is a higher priced restaurant, but is worth a try and great for a special night out."

"outstanding restaurant"

October 2010 — "I recently visited Ville Firenze in Bridgeland, I was born and raised in Calgary and how I have missed this restaurant for nearly the 20 years it has been open is a shock. I had one of the best dining experiences of my life, the food is wonderful, the portions are generous to say the least, but I had no problem enjoying them the next day!! The waiter was entertaining and informative, he obviously enjoys serving the food the chef produces, he was wine knowledgeable and helped us find a wine in our price range, which was very good. I found out during the course of our night that the restaurant is owned by the family who owned Stromboli Pizza in Kensington, a restaurant I loved, you can see the quality and care that goes into making the dishes, the pasta is made in house as is the sausage and all of the sauces, we shared a Portabello mushroom appetizer which was delicious, it was decadent and served with some home made Focaccia warm out of the oven, the bread was extraordinary. I now have a new favorite in Calgary if you get a chance go its worth every penny!! "

"Best Italian Around!"

June 2010 — "I have had the pleasure of dining at Villa Firenze on numerous occasions and have recommended it to everyone I know. It is a family-run fine dining establishment that uses fresh ingredients and pays close attention to the smallest details. From the moment I walk into Villa, I feel well taken care of by the staff. They are all courteous and professional and offer recommendations when asked. I always make sure to request the portabello appetizer. I have eaten many wonderfully prepared items, but nothing as decadent as this. I would love to know the secret behind making this seemingly simple dish as flavourful and decadent as it is. Worth every penny, absolutely. The pasta is prepared fresh onsite and cooked to perfection every time. On my most recent visit, I had the veal, which was tender and beautifully flavoured. On other visits, I often pick a pasta dish at random and we like to share our plates with one another. Any time I crave good, authentic Italian I treat myself to dinner Villa Firenze and it is always exquisite."

May 2010 — "The food was so good, it's all we talked about through the whole meal. The four of us were literally lost in our food. We forgot about everything else. It was an escape. From the delicious foccacia to the tartufo dessert. The portabello mushroom app was beyond description, well worth the $16.95 we paid. I read a review here that panned it for it's value and I disagree. The house special pasta shells were al dente, yet tender... How!? They were amazing. This was a dining experience my family and I won't soon forget. Everything was perfect for us. Sadly we are long-time Calgarians and this was our first visit. Happily, now that we've found Ville Firenze, we know we'll be back. "

March 2010 — "Everything about this restaurant is amazing, you can't help but go back time after time. From the staff to the food to the ambience, every bit is wonderful. Never mind how many people love the mushroom appetizer, you really need to try the sausage. That alone will keep you going back. I can't say enough about how warm and professional each of the staff members are. If you have not been to this restaurant, you really must go. I guarantee you will not be sorry."

"The best Italian in the city"
Image

Save Review

January 2010 — "To keep it very simple, I return to this restaurant multiple times during the year since 2000. It's not pretentious, they cater to anyone and the food........ speaks for itself. In a city that feels like little New York where you could find an italian restaurant on every other block this one should be at the top of your list. I work in a very people orientated and demanding job and I feel very much at home, taken care of and acknowledged when I go. Cheers..."

"Staff Christmas Party"

November 2009 — "We have had our Christmas Party at Villa Firenze 2006 to 2009 and have rebooked for 2010. The Porta Bello Mushrooms were great and the menu was put together very well to accommodate group. The price is very reasonable when order Platter served meals in compared to individual Plated served meals, you are getting more food for your money. The staff and owner are wonderful in serving our needs and provided great service at our function. I strongly recommend Villa Firenze any time."

May 2009 — "My wife and I went here last night and had an amazing dinner. We had the mushroom appetizer which was absolutely amazing (worth the price despite what another reviewer commented). And the rest of our meal was outstanding. Try the tiramisu and oak aged grappa after dinner - again outstanding. As much as we enjoyed the food the outstanding service really made the evening. You won't be going hear for a cheap dinner - but if you're looking for value for your money, then this is the place to go."

"Portobello Rip Off"
Image

Save Review

October 2007 — "My wife and I visited the restaurant for the first time, based on reviews from this site. We ordered the Portobello Appetizer (the restaurant's speciality that wasn't on the menu). When the appetizer came, it was a single large Portobello mushroom cap, with bacon, parmesan, etc on the top, with a white-wine sauce on the sdie. The taste was quite amazing. The remainder of dinner was average - nothing too special. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or desert. The shock came when we got the bill - $16.95 for the appetizer (why else wasn't it listed on the menu - other than to hide the exorbitant price?) How can $3 worth of ingredients get marked up so high and not be considered gouging?"

September 2007 — "You have to try the Portabello Mushroom! It was amazing! Since I had it, it's all I can think about. If the rest of the menu wasn't so amazing you could fill up eating just mushrooms and bruschetta! And the service was great. Friendly and fast yet with a relaxed and homey feeling. I'm going back very soon with my friends and family!"

"Outstanding Food & Service"

April 2007 — "I have been to Villa Firenze 2 times - once for lunch - which was excellent and I was just there again last night for a private fuction. If you did not know, they have a large room in the back which can hold around 100 people for private parties. It is very tastefully decortated with beautiful hardwood floors wonderful painted scrolls on the ceilings and elegant light fixtures - you truly feel as if you are in a villa somewhere in Italy. The food was delicious. The portobello mushroom appitizer is always a favorite and the seafood was perfectly seasoned and outstanding! The beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked to "medium" as our party host had requested. My favorite dish of the evening had to be the ricotta and spinach stuffed pasta. The tomato sauce was excellent - not to acidy or salty and just the right amount of basil for flavour. The pasta is homemade at the restaurant and is excellent. The service was outstanding - the timing of the dishes was perfect with just enough time in between courses to socialize and digest! I will definatly be back to the restaurant for dinner and possibly book the room for my daughter's first communion next year. Thanks for a wonderful evening!"

"A great little restaurant "

Save Review

February 2007 — "No restaurant reviewers every write about Villa Firenze, though some lucky people in the know have been enjoying it for years. The food is consistently fresh and excellently prepared, served in generous portions that are piping hot. Ask for the portobelo mushroom entree which is not on the menu, but, again, loved by folks in the know. Homemade pasta is a sure winner; we love the one with the sun-dried tomato sauce. Villa Firenze is an undiscovered little gem of a place. You will love it."
