October 2011 — "Northwest Calgary really lacks variety and quality Of Japanese restaurants I am looking for, so you can sense my excitement when Koiji Japanese restaurant opened up. It is one of the restaurants I have been waiting to open. The problem is, the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment. I give it props for the design, look, and general style of the restaurant as being one to be desired. I wanted to love it but it lacked finesse, variety and quality, and for a hefty price as well. Between two of us, we had a roll, an ebi burger (shrimp burger), an ahi tuna salad, and a small plate of Hawaiian inspired Atlantic salmon poke (diced salmon win cucumbers in a house made sauce) Our salad had four slices of ahi tuna with drenched salad leaves that opened our palate for more. Yummy but probably not top of my recommendation list. The sushi roll was alright but definitely wasn't special. I think there was suppose to be some tuna in there but it just ended up being a mess of sauces and lettuce greens in my mouth. H burger was the one filling dish that I had but had conflicting flavours and uncomplimentary sauces. Maybe through experience, koiji will make the changes where necessary but for now it misses my vote. but if you want a nice place to hang out and the food doesn't matter too much, maybe you could give it a try. "
