January 2012 — "I've always had a great time at Wurst. I started going here in an attempt to re-live my glory days of backpacking around Germany and frequenting the amazing beer halls and this place doesn't disappoint. The basement is filled with long tables full of people drinking beer from one litre steins or -even better- a 2-litre boot. It's a very social atmosphere, especially later in the night when it's standing room only and an oompah band is bouncing jollily through the place, playing happy birthday and other songs to merry revellers.
My only issue with Wurst is that it's expensive -- the beer and food are both a bit more pricey than I'd like, which is why this isn't a regular haunt or mine. When I do go, I try to fill up on two less expensive things -- the $6 bucket of pretzels and the $7 cheesy spatzel side dish. Both are delicious. "

August 2011 — "Holy smokes! A group of 4 ordering 4 dishes of meat proved to be deadly. The dishes were mostly tasty but it got too overwhelming really quickly. We had dishes like the Bavarian wings, pile of bratwurst and the Gouda spatzle. We all loved the spatzle but we would have been better off with one dish less. We were incredibly stuffed with meat and it became difficult to finish everything at the end. The dishes are not huge, it was just very meaty. I think I would return for the beer in the boot and the spatzle. By the way, the restaurant (dining area) was very beautiful-I loved the indoor tree with the white lights. "

August 2011 — "This place will blow your mind. The restaurant is on the main floor and the beer hall is downstairs. with long communal tables. As you walk down the stairs you see a wall full of locked up steins which are reserved for the most affluent regular customers. They look like something you would find in a pirates treasure. There are lots of German and other beers to choose from but they are pricet. I like the Warsteiner Dunkel ($9.50 for 500ml) and Warsteiner Verum ($9 for 500ml).
I ordered the Flat Top Lamb Burger ($16) and it was amazing. It comes with Westphalian ham, brie, sweet potato mayo on an onion kaiser bun. The ground lamb was succulent with the brie. The fries were awesome too and they came with a homemade smoked ketchup which was perfect.
This place attracts native Germans so you know it's good. The chef is also German so it's authentic.
The service was really good and our server knew her beers. The decor is straight out of Octoberfest with lots of wood and some deer skulls which were an appropriate accent.
This place is going to be around for years. Check it out while there's still a seat in the beer hall.

August 2011 — "The Wurst Restaurant & Beer Hall is a new German restaurant in Calgary located in South West Calgary. Whether you've been to Germany or not, Wurst does a reasonable job recreating the fun and lively atmosphere one expects of a real German beer hall. Unfortunately, their food does not meet those same expectations. With two levels, the second floor is meant more eating and the first floor is designed for drinking (the main floor is also a lot louder than the upper one). Both levels are open concept but the lower level features communal seating. The menu is both extensive and expensive. I had the jager schnitzle and spatzel with a veggie for $23. I also had a couple beer, which were good but expensive at just under $10 each. The meal was surprisingly bland and certainly nowhere near as good as similar offerings available in Germany. I expect Wurst to do well considering its fun atmosphere and lack of competition but I will not be going back based on the high prices and low food quality."
