July 2011 — "I love the PEI Preserve Company. Ever since I discovered it a couple of years ago, I take everyone there for lunch. Still on my whirlwind tour of the Maritimes, I took my Grandmother and little sister there to try the jams and for a quick bite. AS always, my Grandmother had the seafood chowder. She seemed quite happy as she kept talking about how big the portion was and how she simply could not finish it. It also came with with a homemade biscuit. The chowder was $10. I had the BLT. Every ingredient tasted fresh and for only $6 I can't complain. The whole reason to visit is not for the food. The best part is sampling their jams. We ended up buying a couples jams, a salsa, and a mustard. Their tea is also very good. If you go there, try and buy a unique jam that you can't find in a regular grocery store - like their Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Jelly."

"Great Jams, Disappointing Food"

July 2011 — "A visit to the PEI Preserve Company is a must for any visitor to the island but not for their food. The entrance to their restaurant is stocked floor to ceiling with various specialty jams, mustards, custards, sauces, and salsas. The best part about their retail area is the free tasting bar that permits patrons to sample as many preserves as they want from a selection of about thirty. The even provide crackers to accompany your tasting selections. The dining room is often very busy at lunchtime so you should expect a 10-15-minute wait. The menu also features many of their jams but why bother buying them when you can sample them for free. However, their non-preserve selections on the menu are not that good. The French onion soup, BLT, and Black Forest Ham and Island Gouda sandwich (all under $10) are not particularly good. Service is also a problem with many dinners, including our table, requiring cutlery throughout the dining process. The service staff is friendly though sometimes forgetful. Despite these detractors, a visit to the PEI Preserve Company is still worth it."
