"Traditional Neighbourhood Pub"
July 2011 — "You can tell this place has it's regular customers. The waitress knew the guys at the bar by name. The place has vlt's, a pool table, wide open layout and a stage for live music. It's the kind of place where people feel free to let their hair down and be loud if they want. It's one of those places where people go by themselves and stare at everyone that walks through the door hoping the next person is 'Norm' from Cheers.
I stopped in for lunch so it wasn't one of those kinds of visits. This place is known for their wings and has some interesting flavours such as apple whiskey bbq, hot chili n' lime, pinapple curry plum and of course the typical kinds. I wasn't in the mood for wings so I had the Soprano Ciabatta sandwich with caesar salad. The sandwich was Italian themed but had roasted turkey which took away from the taste I was looking for. The sandwich also had calabrese salami, capicolla, lettuce, tomatoes, mozzarella and provolone cheese, mayo and a homemade Italian dressing. The caesar salad was good since it had a homemade dressing.
I probably won't return unless I'm in the mood for wings. The service was ok but on the whole, the place was just a neighbourhood pub for the local clientele. "

June 2011 — "One of the great things about playing in a pool league is having an excuse to try pub grub in a different venue every week and every-once in awhile finding a real gem. The Pig & Whistle Pub located in the Beddington Towne Centre is very nearly one of these gems.
While the exterior would have you believe the place is a run of the mill neighborhood pub, it disguises a very large and welcoming interior that has ample seating and enough space to play a game of pool without disrupting other patrons.
I made sure to come by early to try out their menu. Luckily it happened to be wing night, so to go along with my bacon-cheeseburger I tried out some of the more interesting wing flavours on the menu (honey mustard and ginger-orange).
The burger was suitably greasy and delicious, and although the helping of fries that came with it were bountiful, i would have given up half the amount if it meant they'd be served fresh and crispy.
The real stand-out here are the wings, not only were they only .15 cents a piece (because I ordered before 7pm.) but the two flavours I ordered were a fantastic alternative to the old standards (buffalo sauce, honey garlic, etc). For that reason alone, I believe I'll be back here very soon.
