April 2012 — "I have a friend who is sensitive to many foods so places like Gratitude are gems when we find them. This funky eclectic find in Kensington really is a hippie's dream, although as a non-vegan, non-allergy of any kind type of person I also have a deep appreciation for it as well. Despite the fact that there is no meat in any of their food and most of what you can get is mounds of vegetables, lentils and nuts the food is always flavourful, filling and leaving nothing to be desired. I almost think their food is more filling because they use the right kind of ingredients to fill you up, rather than crap you can get elsewhere. I ordered a burrito, and it was arguably one of the best I have ever eaten, I got it plump full of veggies and nuts that, in combination with their homemade chili, was just amazing. I barely touched the corn chips, rice or salad that also came with it. They also have great smoothies that never cease to amaze me. We ordered the ginger one this time and whatever they did, it worked! It's also always nice to be able to colour some My Little Ponies while waiting. "

July 2011 — "This joint in Kensington had a cool little vibe. So cool that as soon as I walked in, I recognized the rapper/actor Common sitting by himself talking on his cell. I didn't say anything to him since we're all just human. Anyway, they had puzzles and barrel of monkeys toys at the table which was great for our baby girl. The menu was cool with each item starting with "I Am" and then the next word being how you're feeling that moment. I ordered the "I Am Curious" which was raw butternut squash pasta spirals with cashew alfredo for $12. The pasta is made from raw squash which is pressed through a pasta maker. It's quite stiff so it was more like a salad. The dish was tasty and was enough to keep me full for a few hours. My wife had the "I Am Generous" which was a soft burrito with quinoa and other veggies inside. I tried it and actually like hers more than mine. Everything on the menu is fresh, organic, and good for the soul. "

"Raw/Vegan Food in Calgary"

June 2011 — "Being a health-nut foodie, I am always on the hunt for good places to eat that are good for you so I checked out the Gratitude Cafe which specializes in raw, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free menu choices. I was delighted to find this quaint, cozy, and friendly little bistro-style spot for lunch. We started off with a Pumpkin Pie Chai Latte, a great comfort on a cold, rainy day. It was $4.50, a bit steep, however it came in a huge mug. Following that came a soothing vegan minestrone soup, raw nori enchiladas with a cashew miso sauce & artisan greens, and finally a raw cashew and coconut cheesecake. They have really eclectic, creative menu choices and a handy allergen guide at the bottom of the menu for those who need it. I was impressed by the variety if menu choices and organic ingredients, it was hard to choose. I also liked the positive affirmations on the menu as well as in the washrooms. It lent a creative, free-spirit vibe to the place, which I feel needed it in its` dim, minimally decorated ambiance. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone over 14, as I`m not sure that children would find the menu choices ideal. I also wouldn`t go to this place right at the lunch or dinner hour as they are very popular and don`t take reservations; there are only 6 tables. I did feel the staff were a bit abrupt and rushing to take our order, however they were efficient and quick to deliver our meals; under 15 minutes which is crucial at lunch time. The bill for lunch for 2 came to $42 without tip. A bit much for everyday dining, but I found that the portion sizes were fine for lunch, and the clean, healthy, organic food was worth the cost. "

"Vegan Food at its Best"

May 2011 — "It's pretty funny that I didn't realize that the Gratitude Cafe in Kensington was Vegan, Vegetarian and Raw food. I've walked by a few times and somehow I never really made the connection. I was pleasantly surprised after my first visit to this cafe that the portions are a decent size and the food is tasty. I like that they have designated specific evenings to Raw Food (Friday) and to Vegan and Gluten free food (Saturday). The cafe is nice and light with a few tables and a little couch seated so that patrons can look out onto 10th st while eating. The titles of the menu items are fun, ranging from "I am admirable" (soup of the day) to "I am awesome" (raw stuffed peppers w sesame soy 'au jus')...I decided to try out the vegan sushi with quinoa, basil, pecans, avocado and edamame for $13. I was a little worried I wouldn't get very much but the portion was sufficient. I enjoyed the crunchiness and mixture of tastes in this dish - I always love edamame but I found these were not quite as good - somehow they seemed greasy which I still don't understand. Overall however, it was a good dish. For fun I also had turmeric spice lemonade - again very interesting but not very much for $3.50. The service was good and the washrooms very clean (and fun! Graffiti everywhere but "nice" graffiti). I'd recommend this restaurant if you are up for something a little different."
