December 2008 — "We took our family there for the "special" Christmas Dinner. The turkey was cold, the vegetables were mush and when we sent 5 of the 6 plates back to get heated they came back covered in a sloppy gravy. When complained the reactions was basically "so what". Three previous dining experiences at this facility were excellent, but after a $400 plus bill and bad food and poor service - NEVER AGAIN.

August 2008 — "My wife and I went to the Newport Grill
for our 9th wedding anniversary dinner.
We purposely went at the start of dinner
time to avoid any crowd. We were
immediately escorted to a table by the
window overlooking the lake. We were
pleased because one of the reasons for
choosing the Newport Grill was its
romantic setting. I know about the lake
view since we have been to this restaurant
twice before, impressed by the wonderful
food and atmosphere.
We don't enjoy alcohol so we skipped the
wines and went right to our meal. We both
ordered the sweet potato with bacon soup to
start. It was very tasty.
I ordered the Chef's Feature Grill. I
couldn't resist the combination of lamb
chops, filet mignon, and buffalo short ribs.
I had never had Buffalo short ribs before
so I thought I'd try it. And it was very
tender. Yum.
My wife had the slow roasted prime rib.
She said the soup was a delicious start,
but the prime rib was excellent. She has
had prime rib before, but the Newport Grill prime rib was
much better. It was much more tender, cut
easily with a knife, and cooked to how she
liked it. She also loved the sauce on it!!
The vegetables accompanying both our meals
were elegantly displayed and cooked to
perfection - roast potatos, asperagus,
carrots, turnip and red pepper.
For dessert we chose to share their vanilla
creme brulee. We've had the creme brulee for
dessert there before (different flavors)
and have always enjoyed it."

December 2007 — "We held our wedding there and expected great things. This did not go accordingly. We met with Newport staff numerous times in order to work out all the details. However, all the information that we aggreed on with their Events Coordinator and the Manager were not passed on to the staff who were actually working that night. We were charged for drinks that we stated would not be available to our guests (we wanted a very basic bar). The dinner took forever to be served. We specifically wanted yorkshire pudding. They could not make it because they did not have the equipement when they had already stated that we could have it , it was burnt at the head table. Our wedding cake was not served out as we specified (we wanted cut cake to be put on a table so our guests could choose the type of cake they wanted. Instead the staff served the cake out to all the tables even though most people were already moving around the room by then) and much of our cake ended up in the garbage. In addition, when asked if other events would be taking place in the resturaunt that same night, we were told no. There were two other events so during speeches our speakers had to compete with the noise from the other groups. We also had people from these other events join ours. The food was good but not good enough to be worth all these other problems. "

December 2007 — "My husband and I attended Newport Grill on December 29, 2007 for our 7 year wedding anniversary. We had never been here before but thought it would be one of the more romantic establishments to attend.
On arrival I noted a vacant table with a view of the lake as we were seated in the middle I enquired to switch tables the hostess said it was reserved, 20 minutes into our cocktails I noted the table remaine vacant and this time asked our servr if we could relocate tables. She confirmed we could, a minute or so later the hostess returned and in error asked the table next to us to take the table near the window. The server returned and apologized for the error a secondary table was provided to ous. The proper thing to have done would of been to advise the other couple that an error was made, this would of been easir to shrug off if the events to follow were not so ongoing.
I ordered a cocktail, the server forewarned me that this particular liqeur was unavailiable the night before, but that she would confirm. One would think that the bar would be restocked daily over the Christmas season, considering there are only 4 - 5 cocktails to choose from on the menu.
We had ordered the mussels and the tomato salad. The tomato based sauce was floating in oil, I had to request baguette. We were not asked if we wished for wine to be served following our cocktails and/or with our entrees, my husband walked to ther servers station and requested wine, he was told she would be at the table in a few minutes.
During our appetizers are entrees were brought out by the manager he then took note we were still working on the appetizers and had obviously returned our entrees to the heating lamp. After 15 minutes under the lamp they were returned to us filet mignon $42 (at this suggested high end establishment) was charred and crisp after requesting med-rare, I had ordered the chilean sea bass, with lychee salsa, sounded wonderful, it was previously frozen and rubbery to the touch the basmati rice it was served on was undercooked.
The manager felt it appropriate to provide 20% off and a free appetizer....
Thank you Newport Grill for an evening we will not soon forget we will be sure to let our friends, colleauges and clients know off the experience we had.

March 2007 — "I don't write a lot of reviews, but I enjoyed this evening so much I thought I would this time. My wife and I don't have the opportunity for many dates at our stage in life, but on a whim we went to the Newport on a Thursday night. Wonderful.
The staff was very attentive and knowledgable. We had a table overlooking the lake in the setting sun. Very nice of a romantic evening out.
I had a Grasshopper on tap while my wife had wine by the glass. She had the seafood pasta (which was delicious - I got to finish the large serving), while I had salmon, coated in flax seeds. It was great and the service was first rate.
They have great piano music, and an intimate dance floor. I wanted us to be the first couple on the floor, but was we were savouring our desserts, somebody beat us to it.
When the bill came, I thought it was extremely reasonable.
All and all, I highly recommend the Newport for a pleasant night out. "

February 2007 — "We tried Newport Grill for the first time on Feb.11 for a nice dinner out before going to a concert. The night we went, it had been snowing lightly all day and for the two previous days, so the view of the lake was postcard perfect. The atmosphere was very warm and comfortable with two full walls of windows and a huge gas fireplace on a third wall. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable enough to just answer the question - no more. It was also dead the night we went. Only one other table beside us. The menu offered up a limited selection of fish, beef, pasta and chicken as well as a mediocre wine list. My husband and I shared the Chateaubriand, which was tender but that's where the pleasure stops! The food was truly bland if not unpalatable. The potatoes tasted like instant, my zuchinni tasted like pumpkin, and the reduction over the meat was just too rich.
For such a nice place to escape to, the food was a huge disappointment."
