"Fast and cheap dim sum"

March 2012 — "The Cultural Centre is the located in the heart of Chinatown in Calgary. As its name suggests it is conveniently located in the basement of a temple-like structure which serves as the Chinese Culture Centre. It's a can't miss location amongst all the restaurants in the area. There is a dim sum buffet during the weekdays and on weekends you can order off of a dim sum menu. Sorry but there are no carts here for those of you not familiar with dim sum so need to know what you are ordering which can be tough if you haven't had it before. But no worries since the portions are small and each dish only costs $4 to $6 so you can afford to try lots of dishes especially if you are visiting with a large group of friends. The quality of the dim sum here is about average but there isn't as much of a wait as other places and the prices are very reasonable."

"Hot pot was average but price is reasonable"

January 2012 — "The four of us went for hot pot in this restaurant located directly below the Chinese Cultural centre. The restaurant itself is very spacious. They usually have hot pots during winter season for a very reasonable price (around 20 dollars a person), all you can eat style. There is enough ingredient for you to pick from and bring back to the table. There is good selection of soup base. Their tables are really high. I find it very hard to grab food while sitting down. I usually half stand or full stand up to grab food from the pot. They offer several types of beverage (free) with hot pot. Sometimes the plum juice has odd tastes. The washroom is a little out of the way and could use some cleaning. "

"Great first Dim Sum experience!"

February 2011 — "You have to be a bit brave to try Dim Sum. I had never been before but was finally talked into going. The Chinese Cultural Centre is on 1st Street SW just off of China Town. There is a restaurant in the basement which usually serves your typical Chinese food, a buffet for lunch, and Dim Sum on the weekend. Dim Sum is actually more scary looking than anything. It actually tastes really good if you're willing to be adventurous and try. The downstairs restaurant is pretty much just one big room full of round tables. It is definitely authentic, which is evident through the fact that most of the customers are Asian. Carts carrying different dishes in Dim Sum containers are pushed around and you choose what you would like to try. The staff were courteous but didn't speak much English. Most of all, I was amazed by the value! Four of us ate until we couldn't eat anymore and our bill was just over $30! "

"Amazing dim sum! "

February 2011 — "I hadn't been for dim sum for a long time and a friend of mine wanted to take my boyfriend and I to a new place he had found. It is located in the Chinese Cultural Centre in China Town and I had no idea there was a restaurant there! We got there at 11am and the place was already packed! There is a very large capacity though and they were very organized with seating people, so we got a table right away. The food was a bit slow getting started, but once it started coming around, things were great! It was very hard to find anyone that spoke much English so we had a bit of a hard time communicating and finding out what everything was. I would suggest being a bit of a seasoned Dim Sum eater if you are going to try this place! Either way, everything we had was absolutely amazing and the quality of the food was outstanding. Great place for Dim sum with a busy, high energy atmosphere! "
