June 2011 — "I had heard mixed reviews about Red's and wasn't sure if it would be the right brunch choice however we decided it was closest to home out of the options we had available so we might as well. It turns out the place isn't so bad afterall! The ambiance is pretty neat and like the geniuses they are they have mostly tables of two which helps during busy times of maximizing seating (they can push tables together for more but tables of 4 aren't being wasted on only 2 people). Because of the great seating arangements it took us literally no time to get in, and our server was very nice. The menu options all sounded pretty delicious and I did have a hard time choosing. I eventually went traditional and got the regular eggs, meat, pancake route -- although it was hard to pass up the crepes. When our meals came they all looked awesome, and man was my buckwheat buttermilk pancake amazing!! The eggs were not my favourite, although it is nice that they use free range, and the sausage was average. I definitely recommend going to Red's for the pancakes, and if they taste that good I am assuming their crepes and waffles will be delish as well! "

January 2011 — "Is anyone else getting bored of lining up on a weekend for a breakfast that is no better than something offered in the cafeteria of a department store? I think I might be after eating at Reds (located on 4th street across from the Rose and Crown) not too long ago.
It’s not that there’s anything wrong with Reds menu. It’s completely competent with all the standard breakfast items you’d expect to find. The problem is just that, its fine at what it offers, but judging from the lineup of people waiting to get in, you’d think they had something other restaurants don’t. Ultimately I ended up being disappoint by the meal due to it being overhyped.
My meal in question was the prairie breakfast platter. The combination of perogies, eggs and kielbasa was fine, although the perogies could use a bit of fine-tuning.
Our server was not particularly prompt in both food and beverage service, and in all honesty came off as rather surly, which might have a certain charm I guess. I may be being hard on Reds, but the fact is, as more and more breakfast specialty restaurants pop-up you really need to offer something beyond ironically hip décor (which it possesses in spades).
