January 2011 — "We came across this restaurant just before their closing time but decided to go for it anyhow. The restaurant is up some steep stairs and overlooks the LRT tracks so there is a bit of a view but not particularly accessible. Our server made sure we knew she wanted us out by 8 pm but assured us we could get our food quickly. I chose a chicken noodle sate soup with a chicken base - the bowl was typically huge and the cost was a bit under $10...apparently there is a lunch menu with more specials as this is the crowd to which the restaurant typically caters. I enjoyed my soup but it was a bit blander than expected - I wonder if I often have a beef base without knowing it? At any rate, the service was quick, and with a bit of extra red sauce the soup was pretty good. I think I'll have to go back to this restaurant to see what it is like for lunch. "

January 2011 — "Vietnamese Village Express is a downtown restaurant mostly frequented by the lunch hour crowds. We arrived later in the evening and we're informed that the restaurant would be closing at 8 pm - a mere 1/2 hour in the future. We decided to go for it and assumed that the service would be quick, which it was. I ordered a beef based noodle soup with shredded pork and beef balls with a smattering of vegetables floating around. The soup was very hardy and delicious, and had enough spice to really make it tasty. I didn't feel like I had to add any sauces, which is unusual for me. I did add basil leaves and it really enhanced the flavour. The large bowl of soup was under $10; well worth it. There were menu items ranging from around $6 and up - we didn't check to see if there was a separate lunch menu. Tea was included in the meal. I recommend this restaurant. "
