December 2011 — "I had heard about Five Guys Burgers from a few friends and was in the mood for a “man burger” so I decided to try Five Guys out. Entering the restaurant with no idea what to expect, I was certainly surprised. You walk in and get in a big line and check out the menu while you wait to place your order. I ordered the “little” bacon cheeseburger with everything on it and some fries. I was so glad I didn’t order the regular sized burger. The “little” version was more than enough food! The burger didn’t look pretty by any means, but it was a true burger and exactly what I was in the mood for. The fries were fantastic. They make their fries in house and they certainly tasted freshly made. I also noticed on the menu that they have grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and other options. Note to those with peanut allergies: there is peanut oil everywhere. Literally tubs of peanut oil stacked around, and not for decoration! Anyone with a nut allergy will want to stay far away from Five Guys; anyone else will find a very satisfying burger! "

"Now one of my favorite burger joints!"

December 2011 — "Earlier in the day, my son and I were out Christmas shopping when he noticed a new Five Guys Burger retaurant off of MacLeod Trail near a new futureshop. He recalled his cousins telling him that it was one of their favorite restaurants and asked if we could go. Without the rest of the family, I respectfully declined and decided that we should have a lunch at home. Later on that day, we decided that we would go out for dinner. Thinking back to earlier that day, we all decided that we should try out the burger joint which I passed on earlier that day. Family in tow, we headed down to the new location. Upon entering it was a clearly vibrant place. You could smell the food cooking, the restaurant was loud and lively, and the menu was fairly small consisting of different burgers, hot dogs and fries. The toppings were all "free" and you could select from their large variety of them such as ketchup, mustard, mayo, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, chopped onions, amongst others. Each of us ordered at the front till and moved down the line to wait for our burgers cook. When our number was called, we picked up on burgers and ate at one of their many tables. Let me tell you that each of my family members were very impressed with the burgers. The large sized fries we ordered were enough for the 5 of us to share. The burgers were also much bigger than I had anticipated. This restaurant has now been deemed one of our families favourite burger joints. Again a highly recommended restaurant if you are looking for a great burger!"

"Was it worth the wait...umm..."

December 2011 — "It seems every other week a new burger joint is popping up in Calgary, and claiming to have "the best burger in town," Five Guys may be a cut above the competition, but I'm somewhat hesitant to proclaim it the best. Five guys really makes a concerted effort to come off as a blue collar, no frills burger joint. For some reason however, the motif comes off as much too forced. From the bags of potatoes used to form make-shift queues to serving an order of fries in a paper-bag, it all just seems a little much. One of the interesting things about five guys, is that any burger can be ordered with any, and as many types of topping you would like. I ordered my burger with cheese, bacon and jalapenos, pedestrian maybe, but ultimately it really was well made, and will be why I come back. If you're going to grab a burger from Five Guys, I'd recommend getting your meal to go. The food holds up, but the longer you stay in the dining area, the quicker it dawns on you, the place is just trying too hard."

"5 Stars for 5 Guys"

October 2011 — "Every time I pass by Five Guys Burgers & Fries, there is a line-up going out the door. For a long time I stayed away thinking there is no way it can be worth the wait. Then one day last week curiosity got the best of me and I took my place in line. I got through fairly quickly and past the time reading the various reviews posted along the wall of the entrance. It seemed this place should be something special, but when I got close enough to view the menu it really didn’t seem like they had anything out of the ordinary. Burgers, hotdogs, and fries -that's it. I settled on the Little Cheeseburger as I wasn’t all that hungry, and my husband got the Bacon Cheese Burger. But when we asked for an order of normal fries and an order of Cajun fries, our cashier said “Are you sure? That’s a lot of fries…” Confused, I asked to see the size. He showed me a cup that didn’t seem very big by any means, so we ignored his warning and went with the two orders of fries. We sat down to wait for our order and munched on some of the complimentary peanuts while we watched the team assemble our order. When we got our food I finally understood the warning. The small cup of fries was placed in a paper lunch bag and filled to the brim. One bag would have been more than enough for two people to share. I didn’t mind though, I ate as many of them as I possibly could, they cook their fries in peanut oil and it seems to make all the difference because they were delicious. And the burgers, even though I got the “Little” one was huge and I couldn’t finish it (maybe because I ate too many fries). I would say their prices are about average for a fancier burger joint but with the amount of food you get, it is definitely a good deal, and I would suffer the line-up to go back again."

"Great Burgers"

December 2010 — "Recently I have heard a lot of word of mouth referrals from friends about this new burger joint in the South. Its located in Deerfoot Meadows close to the Ikea. The décor reminded me something you would find in the USA in the 80’s. It had a very casual feel with potatoes sacks lined up to form a pathway to the cashier. The staff was very energetic and friendly taking the time to explain to us how to order, and to warn about peanut allergies. (Fries are cooked in peanut oil) I settled on a bacon cheese burger with the works. You can choose from a large list of fresh toppings and they all come free. I was disappointed to see they use a processed cheese, but this is a fast food place afterall. I shared a large fry with my girlfriend and was almost unable to finish it. It came in a bag and they basically fill up your container plus another scoop of frys on tops so it just falls into the bag. Make sure to get the Cajun fries, it’s a bit spicy but I really think it makes the fries taste much better. Price for 2 people came to about $20. Pricey for fast food, but the quality of the burger and the amount of fries made it quite reasonable. I enjoyed eating here and didn’t leave feeling too greasy like most other places, I would definately come here again, its just too bad they only have one location and that its so far south."

"Location is too far, but good burgers"

December 2010 — "After hearing raving reviews about this place, we decided to make the trek down to the deep South and give this place a try. For those not in the know, this place specializes in burgers and fries, their main selling feature I think is the fact that everything is cooked in peanut oil. When we got there, it was so hectic. I have to say though that the service was amazing. They make the burgers out in the open and have an extremely efficient assembly line that makes things go very, very fast. I ordered the small burger, which is actually a regular burger for $4.99. I added fries and a drink. Keep in mind that a small burger is again a normal sized burger as a regular burger is two patties. They include all the dressings, jalapenos, bacon, mushrooms, literally the works! When you order fries, they give you a container of fries, and then they dump another scoop of fries into the bag, so be careful what size you order of that. It was a pretty good burger. Sadly, I have gotten so used to ‘fast food burgers’ that I think I actually enjoy the taste of cardboard. This burger tasted too home made for me, strange huh? I don’t think I will actively seek this place out again, especially given its distance from my regular stomping grounds. "
