November 2010 — "Marie Callenders is a pretty famous restaurant is the western states and there is a good reason for that. The food is scrumptious. They have a bakery, which is how the restaurants first started. She is famous for her pies. You must try a piece, but I will get into the dessert later. The decor of the restaurant is very homey. A wooden building, with a country style atmosphere. We were seated by a lovely hostess. We perused the menu, and had heard nothing but great things about the salad bar, so we wanted to add that to our meals. Many of the items on the menu are homemade homestyle recipes. Chicken pot pie, meatloaf, shepherds pie, as well as steak, pastas, chicken and fish. One of the fall specials was a chicken pot pie with caesar salad and soup for $8.95. We both chose this as our dinner, with the addition of the salad bar, at a cost of $3.29. There were so many items in the salad bar I can't name them all, its an exceptional selection, as well as 3 soups. I mixed the chicken gumbo with a spoon full of the cheddar potato soup and it was heaven. Our meals were just as good. All having that home made taste and so full of chicken chunks and veggies. Our server convinced us to try the pie special, apple and cranberry for $1.99, ice cream included. Wow, is the best to describe the pie, and the meal. Please try one of these restaurants, they are so worth the effort."
