October 2011 — "We decided to take the family for brunch at a local restaurant we have yet to try. At first, we didn't know if kids were allowed to this restaurant since it appears to be like a bar/tavern. However, friends of ours told us that they take their kids there for brunch fairly often. We made reservations the day before, but again, noting that it was not busy at all (10am in the morning) and we could pretty much seat ourselves anywhere. There were TV's everywhere with every sport playing. The kids loved being able to watch TV while having breakfast; somewhat of a treat in itself. We ordered Eggs benedict, while the kids had french toast. The food came quickly. The presentation was more of a "homestyle" type of serving, rather than these fancy places with little food on it. We all enjoyed our meals, including the kids and the proportions were fairly large. The only downside in my opinion was when the server started off taking our orders by telling us about the highball specials they had. At 10am in the morning, with 3 kids, I think that it was fairly obvious that this was not an appropriate way to greet us. Nonetheless, we would return for the food and the mere fact that the kids had a good time."

February 2011 — "Local 002 is exactly what it sounds like. . . a local pub with a great atmosphere and good service! The crowd seems to be quite young since it's really close to Mount Royal University. They have good food and drink specials and the decor is very clean and modern with tons of TVs, making it a prime spot for watching sporting events. They have a huge, long table in the middle of the bar that would be great for hosting an event for 15-25 people. We decided just to go for some beers and appetizers. We stayed the majority of the night since the drink specials were so good! In total, we had 4 appetizers from the menu. My two favorites were the pizza (which had an amazing homemade crust and tons of cheese) and the chicken tacos. The tacos were good although a bit expensive for what you get. The beer was cold and well priced, and the service was great! I would definitely go back. "

February 2011 — "My boyfriend took me to Local 002 for a date on a Sunday. We had a really good time! It was pretty slow, and we were happy to learn that Happy Hour runs all day Saturday and Sunday! So our pints of beer, which usually run for $6.75 were only $5 each! We decided to just take it easy and order a few appetizers. The menu isn't that big and some of the main dishes are strange for food in a pub. We ordered the chili cheese fries, which I would not recommend to anyone, and the calamari. The fries were just a bunch of fries in a big bowl with some kind of pork chili on top. I didn't see any cheese. The chili had a weird flavor, almost like it had cinnamon in it or something! Not very good. The calamari, however, was some of the best I've had in the city! Our server was friendly and we really enjoyed our night! Great, modern neighborhood pub right beside Mt. Royal University! The food could use some work though. "

August 2010 — "I recently discovered a new addition to my sister's neighbourhood: the Local 002 Tavern. The "Local Tavern" chain of restaurant/pubs had up until this point been unknown to me. We went for dinner one night and I found the decor very appealing (really neat lighting!) and it wasn't busy at all. One complaint: it wasn't remotely busy, but we still had to yell at one another to have a conversation. There is really no excuse to play the music that loud. I ordered a pint of Grasshopper, which was nice and cold and arrived promptly. Our server was friendly but scantily clad in a mesh top with a bra underneath, which, no offense to her personally, wasn't all that appetizing.
I decided to order the fish and chips and my sister ordered a salad. The fish was good, perhaps a little too much batter, but that's pretty typical with fish and chips. One thing that I was really pleased with was that their fries come standard as a mix of regular fries and yam fries with aioli. It was such a treat to have both instead of one or the other! My sister's salad looked good and she seemed pleased with it.
I would be interested in going back and trying some different dishes or maybe just going for appetizers and drinks."

A contemporary pub atmosphere and modern pub fare are the specialties of this bar and eatery, popular with students from Mount Royal University.
