April 2011 — "I heard such good things about the place but went in to a somewhat confused set up. It's a lebanese restaurant/grocery store/deli. They serve omelettes for breakfast and schwaramas at lunch. One display had fresh fruit such as kiwi at (like at a grocery store) along with some salads. Another display had more salads, hummous, and the odd plate of pizza slices. One wall had a bunch of lebanese spices. I wasn't really sure where to place my order so I stood in the middle of the grocery store until I was asked what I would like to order. I ordered a chicken schwarama for $7.60 which was assembled and warmed up. Afterwards the man behind the counter asked if I wanted anything added. It seemed backwards to me because if I did want any additions they would have had to unwrap it. Maybe it was because they were busy over the lunch hour but plates of food were piling up at the front till until the server could take them to the tables. It was very crammed just like the display of food. Since the schwarama was so small, I ordered a plate of 2 leftover slices of food for only $2. The schwarama was ok but there were some dry bites and the pita was stale on a few spots. The pizza was ok but being that it was leftover the crust was stale. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this place. I wished it was better since it's so close to my work."

July 2010 — "I am a bit of a regular now at Luxor Emporium Cafe, after being introduced to the small restaurant by a business associate. I am a big fan of the chicken shawarma and that is what I usually order. The chicken is always tender, moist and delicately spiced. The vegetables and sauces in the shawarma compliment the chicken nicely. I find their shawarmas some of the best I've found in town and I am always excited to eat there. I have tried a few of the salads available and they are so fresh and tasty. I do not have much of a sweet tooth, but I always treat myself to a piece of baklava when I eat there! I have also tried the mummy wrap, which is a bit spicier and very delicious as well. All of the ingredients are so fresh and the food is very authentic Mediterranean cuisine. The staff is exceedingly friendly and I always find it a pleasure to visit Luxor."

Description

Eat like a pharaoh at the Luxor, an Egyptian restaurant in the heart of Calgary's downtown. Expect cuisine with a Middle Eastern influence in addition to exotic plates like kusheri, which is a mixture of rice and lentils with a tangy tomato suace, or Luxor biftek, featuring specially breaded and marinated meat. Wraps, kebabs and pizzas are also served. Save room for baklava or order a box to go.
