July 2010 — "After walking around the Stampede Grounds on a hot and busy Saturday afternoon, we decided that we needed to get out of the crowds and escape to a restaurant where we could sit back and relax. There are not that many options right on the grounds during Stampede for what we were looking for, so we headed to the Big 4 Building to the restaurant called Maverick's Dining Room & Lounge. I had eaten here several years ago, and hadn't really enjoyed it, but the idea of having air conditioned, less busy space was appealing. We sat in the lounge, which was nice and dark and cool and ordered some refreshing beverages. Our server was really attentive and was definitely the best part of the experience. This restaurant is most known for its dinner buffet, which started at 4:30 (right after we got there) and costs about $21 for a bunch of things like roast beef etc. However, I was not in the mood to stand in a massive line to eat... Instead we decided to order off the very limited menu. We started with hot wings, which were just okay. Then for my main course I got the $24 steak dinner, which consisted of a withered piece of corn on the cob, a low-grade piece of steak (which was actually cooked to my liking), and some french fries. The fries were my favourite part. I found the price to be quite high for the low quality that we received. My wife ordered the half rack of ribs with mashed potatoes (no gravy) and a piece of corn for $18. She said they were very dry. Perhaps we should have known better to order something off a menu at a buffet restaurant. It was quite an expensive meal for what we got, but what do you expect... you're eating at a restaurant at the Calgary Stampede. We both wish we had eaten midway food afterwards though. "

Located in the Big Four Building on the Stampede Grounds, this restaurant features cowboy cuisine and western hospitality all year round. With seating for up to 325 people in five separate dining areas, everyone is welcome. New York steak, lobster ravioli, burgers and the like are served. This is a casual restaurant where cowboy hats and Flames jerseys are often common attire. And on game nights, a Flames all-you-can-eat buffet is offered.
