April 2012 — "I went for a second visit to the Essence of Saigon Garden restaurant in Brentwood, this time for dinner. The restaurant is very cramped and is located in a dilapidated strip mall near the Northland shopping mall. There are a bunch of Vietnamese items adorning the walls but there is not much atmosphere. It is the food that draws people to this often busy place. My dinning partner and I each chose a big bowl of vermicelli. Mine had big shrimp in it. The portions are very big and most vermicelli dishes are sweet and spicy. Just about every main meal is around $10 so it's a great deal. Service is always good and the staff seem genuinely interested in your well being. The chairs are a bit rigid and uncomfortable, and the views of the parking lot is not nice. The wait for food is about average but you always leave full, especially if you finish all the broth at the bottom of the bowl."

June 2010 — "A newly discovered Vietnamese Restaurant a friend stumbled on - Essence of Saigon Garden Restaurant is the topic. It’s 2 block off of Northland village Mall and across form Sir Winston Churchill High School. Seeing from the location, you could probably guess that the business caters to students, meaning that the food they serve is definitely within budget. When I got my dish – a rare beef noodle soup. I thought was disappointed after taking the first bite. I had to separate the noodles, which were bunched up and the soup base lacked that clear, flavorful and sweet taste I hope for when I order this dish. I think the vermicelli noodles should have been my pick, but I don’t really think that there will be a next time. Only because there are other options that I would like to try. We also had the shrimp rolls, which were pretty good. On a cool, rainy night, the food tastes good, but otherwise, it’s just alright. "

Spring rolls, vermicelli bowls and pho soup are the specialties at this Vietnamese restaurant. Located near Northland Village Mall, this family owned-and-operated restaurant is an area favourite.
