January 2012 — "I discovered Banzai several months ago and like to have lunch there regularly with a friend. I am now conveniently working in an office right across the street, so I'm becoming something of a regular. The setup is unique in that it has plenty of tables (but if you're dining in, you had better be there early) and you go up to order cafeteria-style. They give you a number and you can go take a seat or stand and wait until they call out your number. They have cups and water available to help yourself, which I find a nice touch. I have tried a couple of the bentos, the gyoza and a couple of the bowls. The gyoza so far is the only thing I wouldn't order again (it was crunchy and almost too chewy to eat). My favorite is the beef bowl. I was ordering the super bowl for a while but wasn't too fond of the chicken (because of the skin and fat) so decided to start ordering the beef bowl instead. I love the way the beef is prepared and flavoured. The sauce is just delicious. It's a large meal, and I don't think I have ever finished one of the bowls. It's a really busy and popular lunch spot and sometimes you can wait in a fairly long line to order. I haven't had the take-away yet, but my friend said it's not quite as good as dining in. The price is great and the staff is very friendly. "

August 2011 — "A quick meal can be grabbed at Banzai. The food is prepared and served in under ten minutes. You go to the counter, order the food, then get water, cutlery and napkins yourself so it is almost like a self-serve restaurant. I had the spicy salmon roll and teriyaki chicken bento box. The meal itself was under fifteen dollars with the bento box being under nine dollars, which is a great value. They also have large platters of sushi for larger parties at a price of about thirty dollars which is an amazing deal. Food itself is very average. The bento box came with chicken, salad, rice and spring rolls. The teriyaki chicken in the bento box was the best part out of my whole meal. The spring rolls did not have much filling inside them. The rice and salad were decent. The portion of the food filled me up. I would recommend this place if you're in a hurry to grab a quick and filling bite. "

February 2011 — "Banzai has a few locations located in Calgary including the downtown core that offers quick and inexpensive Japanese cuisine. However as with most restaurants you do get what you pay for. The sushi is about the quality of what you would expect to pick up at a grocery store. You can also purchase large platters for events and parties at a very reasonable price. Other popular items on their menu include the teriyaki bowls which are very generous on portions but also quite heavy on sodium. For around $8 their bento box lunch is quite a bargain and includes a small sampling of most of the menu. You can choose either teriyaki beef or chicken, and the bento box also includes a small soup, tempura, sushi, and even a spring roll (I thought that was Chinese.) It's quite a lot to carry around if you are planning for a take out meal but I'm not complaining."

June 2010 — "I am a regular lunchtime customer at the Banzai Southland location. I have always been satisfied with the quality and service received.
This visit, I ordered the Bento Box with chicken teriyaki and california roll. This meal also comes with miso soup, salad, and spring rolls. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was promt.
The only negative thing I have to mention is the owners could be a little better at maintaining the restaurant. The upholstery in the booths is ripped and has been for sometime.
But overall, great place to have lunch in the area."

June 2010 — "Since I was in the area, I decided to give Bonsai a chance. It was recommended to me by a friend and I went in thinking it was a cheap take out place, but it was a very nice cozy little restaurant with comfy seats for those that wanted to dine in and easy/quick system for getting your food and running for a quick bite to eat. As I entered, I was greeted by at least three friendly servers almost in unison. Usually it would bother me, but the servers were very friendly and eager to help. When I took a look at the menu, I must say that I was rather dumbfounded. The selection was more than what I had in mind and I was surprised to find the prices - much lower than I would have expected. They had sushi, which I took a pass on, but only because the rice bowls/ meals looked so good and interesting. I ordered the sesame beef and man, it was super. I mean, thought it was a little salty, it had some very nice flavour profiles that I would be glad to try again and again. Sesame always seems to smell so good, but taste eh and bland, but this was not the case. So, I'm going to say what my friend said to me - Go try it! "

Banzai is a slick, stylish and casual Japanese eatery that features fast service and a fresh menu. Food is ordered at the central cash desk, but the environment is anything but fast food with modern decor and comfortable booth seating. The menu is comprised of mainly various rice bowls, udon noodle soups, bento boxes (lunch box) as well as sushi.
