May 2011 — "This is going on my list of favorite new restaurants in Victoria.
The ambiance is great, and live jazz started shortly after arriving. The space is tucked away in a great old heritage building across from one of the big hotels, just a few minute walk around from the inner harbour. We were hear relatively early, coming in off the boat which we had in the harbour. My only complaint that the maitre 'd was looking a bit down his nose at us, dressed in jeans and t shirts, where we also had our two kids- one three and the other a newborn. Keep in mind here that neither of them made much more than a peep the whole time. I may have been imagining this, but he seemed to be looking at us every time I looked up, kind of awkward to be honest.
Besides this, the food and service was outstanding. The menu changes daily, where they use as much local and organic products as possible. They want us to use a shared plate approach, where we ordered several dishes and shared them between us, which always makes fora great experience. They also make their own syrups for club soda, a great beer and wine list. The staff also went out of its way to make something my daughter specifically wanted, we will certainly be returning. I am not going to hold the one staff members experience against them, and will bring our little ones again. They deserve great food too!

March 2010 — "The Superior is a beautiful heritage building located in James Bay just minutes away from downtown Victoria. The menu is primarily a sharing/tapas menu that changes on a very regular basis, with a few favourites that are always there. My boyfriend and I went there after it was highly recommended by friends. The restaurant is beautiful, adorned with very funky decorations and amazing art work everywhere. Our male server, complete with kilt, was incredibly polite and efficient; not to mention very helpful with our food choices. He let us keep our menus and order as we went, which was a really nice and relaxing touch. We began the tapas style meal with a grilled Caesar salad. It arrived as a small head of lettuce accompanied by a lovely dressing and croutons for $9. Although it was a very different experience, I had never had a grilled salad, there was not enough dressing and the portion size was very small even for a sharing menu. We then decided upon smoked chicken flat bread which was delicious, but again too small for the $13 price. I have to say that I have never had such fresh tasting food at a restaurant. The server let us know that they prided themselves on serving only local and fresh produce and it certainly shows. It made a huge difference in our meal. Although due to the prices I would not recommend The Superior for a full meal, it definitely is worth going back for drinks (they have a great wine selection) and a light snack – especially on the amazing patio in the summer time!"

Featuring a tapas style menu, The Superior specializes in plates made for sharing. The menu changes nightly to ensure freshness and variety, with some favourite standbys always available including root chips and in-house smoked Cowichan Bay chicken wings. They are open Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm until late and brunch is available on the weekends from 10am until 3pm.
