October 2011 — "We went for a triple date to Canada Dosa Corner. My wife had been a couple times and told me that we must go! I am a big fan of lamb, and they have a couple lamb dishes to choose from on the menu. The service isn't the greatest. Its a smaller Indian restaurant with only one server working. It is nice though to take your time at a slower pace. We ordered Vegetable pakora, which came in a huge portion and was very good. The mushroom Dosa, which came as the masala dosa (they made a mistake) but we decided to keep it anyways. I also ordered the lamb korma to share with my wife. She only had a few peices but agreed it was cooked well. The lamb was soft and cooked to perfection and the sauce was great, it also came with a side of rice. The soup which came with the Dosa, was full of flavor and something I've never had at an Indian restaurant before. I would go again, although the service isnt top notch, the food makes up for it all. "Interesting Experience!"

October 2011 — "I had never had Sri Lankan food before, so when a group of us decided to go to Canada Dosa Corner I was a little excited and a bit apprehensive. I'm allergic to nuts and shellfish, so we checked beforehand and the owner assured us that there wouldn't be a problem, but I still can't help being a bit worried. The restaurant is in Forest Lawn, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the interior has been done up pretty nice for a strip mall restaurant. The owner was serving us and we ordered a couple of mango lassis because the rest of our group was running late. At this point there were only a couple of tables in the restaurant, but it took probably 20 minutes to get our lassis. When our group arrived we decided to order a couple vegetable pakoras and a donut style appetizer to start. The pakora were pretty good and came with a mango chutney. The donuts were also tasty, but I have a thing for baked goods. The two sauces that came with the donuts were some type of coconut sauce and some type of spicy sauce. I was not really a fan of the coconut one. We had heard a lot about dosas so my wife and I decided to split a chicken dosa and then a main dish of chicken Biryani. I really did not have a clue what half the stuff on the menu was so I went pretty safe. Everyone decided to split a dosa so we had three ordered, and three entrees. It was strange but everyone got their dosas at a different time, like they could only cook one at a time. Then the entrees came with the dosa, so we all had to sit and watch the other couples eat while we waited. The restaurant got pretty busy as the night wore on and I think the owner was serving, as well as helping with the cooking... so the service was really slow. When the chicken dosa arrived it was huge! They are a lentil crepe filled with spiced chicken etc... it was pretty tasty, but I had to be careful because once in awhile you would find a bone in the meat. The flavors were really good though. The main dish was decent and the portion huge and it was pretty flavorful, with a strong taste of curry. Overall, the experience was very interesting and the food was authentic, but I'm not too sure if that is my type of thing. We were in a rush to get somewhere so we all kind of wolfed down our food quickly since it took so long to arrive, so I think the experience was kind of overshadowed by this. If you have a lot of time on your hands and are looking for an interesting experience with a different type of food, then Canada Dosa Corner is for you. I probably won't be going back."

"Sri Lankan Delight!"

April 2011 — "Canada Dosa Corner is the only place in Calgary where you can find this amazing food. Sri Lanka is a small part of India. I love Indian food already. Butter chicken, Pakora. My sister told me about Canada Doas corner where they serve a dish called Dosa. It is a crepe like pancake, filled with different fillings of your choice. When it arrives you honestly will not believe your eyes. It is enormous and can easily be shared between two people. We also ordered the Veggie Pakora which I would highly recommend and the butter chicken which is one of the best in the city in my opinion. Canada Dosa Corner is not in the best location (Forrest Lawn SE Calgary) And the inside, is a little bit divey, but the food is worth it. The service is well, lets say slow, and not of High on the Customer Service level. But its all worth it for the beautiful traditional Sri Lankan food that you can only get here in all of Calgary. Try it today! It is amazing."

"One of a kind restaurant!"

March 2011 — "I was glad we went with people that were familiar with the place, because the menu was very foreign to me. However, the food was astounding! Canada Dosa Corner is the only authentic Sri Lankan restaurant in Calgary. While they serve a lot of typical South Indian food, they also serve typical Sri Lankan cuisine you can't find anywhere else. There aren't many tables, so I would recommend reservations as the Dosa Corner seems to be quite a popular place. The pakora (deep fried vegetables) was delicious as was the dosa, which as the name suggests, is their house specialty. It is a huge crepe made out of lentil flour served with your choice of filling and a coconut chutney dipping sauce. The walls are painted a nice, deep red and yellow and the atmosphere is very inviting. The service is very friendly and very personable. Try the homemade chai tea to end your meal! The Dosa Corner is very vegetarian friendly, which was great as we were out with a vegetarian! "

"TRY THE DOSA!"

March 2011 — "We went to the Canada Dosa Corner with a friend because she has been going there for a long time and loves it. It is located in Forest Lawn, and is a tiny little hole-in-the-wall restaurant that is very easy to miss. However, their food is unforgettable! They are famous for their Dosas, which is a Sri Lankan specialty. This interesting and delicious dish even earned them the award for "Calgary's best kept secret" in this months Avenue Magazine! A dosa is basically a HUGE crepe filled with whatever filling you choose. It was the size of my forearm, no lie! You tear of chunks of the rolled up dosa, put some filling on it, then dip it in the red pepper sauce or the homemade coconut curry sauce. Delicious! As an appy, we had "vadas", which are basically a little deepfried donut with indian spices served with dipping sauce. Paired with some red wine, the experience was amazing. The decor is warm and welcoming, the music sets the mood, and the owner, Mary, is the sweetest, most personable woman I have met in awhile! Try a Dosa! You will love it! "

BulletDescription

Most Indian restaurants in Calgary focus on northern dishes (butter chicken et al.) and give passing attention to South Indian delicacies like dosas, string hoppers, vadas, kerala fish curry etc if at all. Yes, southern cuisine is way different than what we are used to knowing as Indian food and has its own line of delicacies one ought to try. The owner, Mary, takes quite a pride in bringing Southern Indian home cooking to Canada.
