April 2012 — "I've been to West a few times, and the thing that stands out in my mind about it is this: It has a fantastic rooftop patio. It's located right in the middle of downtown, so it's awesome to chill out with a few drinks beneath the sky scrapers on a warm summer's evening. They also have a great selection of fruit, slushy drinks and their outside booths and tables are really chic and comfortable.
But as for everything else? I could take it or leave it. The people who usually go there look like they just arrive from the Jersey Shore and act like it to. The bouncers and waitresses vary from disinterested to downright rude, and the hostesses I've dealt with are clueless about how to take a reservation, how to find a reservation etc.
The menu is great but food is ok -- I had the Mac and Cheese which was good, but not amazing. A friend had the daily soup which sounded amazing but was pretty flavourless. The other people I ate with seemed to enjoy their meals but weren't blown away. "

"Beautiful Interior but average food"

July 2011 — "West Restaurant and Bar has an amazing atmosphere inside. It has three floors and each floor has a different feel based on the decor. West also has the largest patio in Calgary. I did not get a chance to see the patio but was fortunate enough to experience sitting in the lounge. West has a very posh and high class feel to it which caters to the downtown business crowd and a younger crowd during Friday and Saturday nights. My friends and I only enjoyed desserts and drinks there. The desserts were quite small and they were average tasting. Most of the food is a little pricey but I feel I would return for a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday. Overall, West has spent a lot of time and money to make the place beautiful which it really is. You'll enjoy the atmosphere a little more than the food! "

"High on atmosphere average service and food"

June 2011 — "Recently opened in 2010 and touted as having the largest patio in all of Calgary, West Restaurant & Bar came on to the dining scene with sky high expectations but fell short of those expectations on a recent visit. It has one of the most prime locations situated in the 2nd and 3rd levels of Scotia Centre on Calgary's Stephen Ave Mall. The location naturally draws quite a large business crowd for lunches as well as party goers on Friday nights when it turns into a lounge and nightclub. There were lengthy delays in the construction of the patio and just recently opened in early summer of 2011. I visited during happy hour of a busy Friday afternoon and although the interior is quite nice with ample seating and plenty of booths the service was quite slow and the food was overpriced for what seemed to be very average pub fare. It is a good place to impress a client or a date but don't expect too much in terms of service or food."

January 2011 — "A new restaurant located in the heart of the Scotia Center in downtown Calgary! The open concept of this 3 level restaurant offers much flexibility for hosting parties big or small to casual group dinners. One can eat seated at comfy booths to high bar stools or at a round table in an enclosed glass room. This restaurants offers a much laid back atmosphere and not pretentious feeling at all. The menu selection sounds very delicious offering a wide range of innovative appetizers and yummy entrees. A favourite of mine was the Chef’s Fondue which was a cheese fondue accompany with strips of naan bread. One of the best cheese fondue I’ve ever had! Wasn’t heavy feeling at all. For entrée, we had the Lobster Club Taco ($17) and Alberta Cheese Steak ($17). Both are highly recommended dishes!
In terms of service, the staff was friendly but the service was extremely slow. Despite it being lunch time, management needs to make an effort to have food delivered promptly. I believe waiting 45mins for an entrée is not reasonable. Hopefully this will improve since I quite enjoy the food but the wait time is very discouraging.

"Best mojitos! "Lindsay
December 2010 — "West was recommended to me by a friend, and I was very happy that my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. We entered on the bottom level to find the place completely empty. However, once we were lead upstairs, we found a beautiful lounge atmosphere with eyecatching lighting and decor with a clean, modern edge. Mojitos were on special for $4.99, and they were hands down the BEST I have had in the city. They have both lime and raspberry. The menu at West has Asian and Thai influences on Western classics. I was tempted to try the crabcake mac and cheese, but went with the Pad Thai which was also their special on Monday. The serving size was decent and it was delicious! I haven't had Pad Thai like that since I was in Thailand. Our server was very warm and accomodating and stayed to chat a bit with us a couple of times. West is a great restaurant for any occasion. I definitely recommend trying it out! "

"Noteworthy steak!"
December 2010 — "West is located in TD Square and is a great place to take a date or go for drinks in the downtown core. I took my girlfriend and we were very pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. On Mondays , they have a few drink specials and I ended up drinking margaritas for $4.99. They were really good and definitely had plenty of tequila in them! For my meal I ordered the crab cake top sirloin, which was a beautiful steak topped with a crab cake, roasted carrots and creamy mashed potatoes. The menu has a lot of Asian influences and I am definitely planning on going back to sample more of the menu. The dessert menu looked quite impressive too, but we were too full to try anything. There is a lot of space in the upstairs restaurant/lounge area and it makes for a really comfortable dining experience. Meals run between $15-30 dollars, but the service and food are definitely worth the price. "

September 2010 — "My friends and I were here for a close friend’s birthday. It was my first time and it was quite interesting. It’s a restaurant that is three levels; the 2nd level turns into a club at night after a certain time. It was a very interesting concept that was quite cool. If I were into clubbing, this would be perfect. You get to eat and drink good food and also a place to dance and meet people. I ordered the Mushroom Provalone burger which game with potato leek soup. We also ordered a side of fries. Total was just over $20 which is pretty decent. The soup and fries were really good. The burger itself was just alright. It was really thick making it really hard to eat. The service was decent given how busy it was. I think I would come back again in the future or for a special event."

August 2010 — "Last week a couple of co-workers and I, decided to try out the new West restaurant downtown. I was immediately impressed by the sheer size of the venue, three story's tall with ample seating room on each level. And the entire restaurant was packed. If you want to get in here on a Friday afternoon for lunch you will definitely need to make a reservation well in advance. The menu has a lot of tempting dishes, but I decided to try their Friday special which was an open faced lamb burger. The burger is topped with melted gruyere cheese and an avocado mayo/salsa type dressing which was outstanding. You have a choice of soup, Caesar salad or fries as a side. West is slightly on the pricier side for lunch, but I was well satisfied with my meal. The service was great and I was in an out in an hour. I would definitely recommend you give it a try."

May 2010 — "For my friend's birthday, we tried out WEST Restaurant & Bar, a new place in Scotia Centre. The ambiance, the atmosphere and the location seemed pretty good and it we thought it would be worth the trip. Sorry. Looks are deceiving. It was definitely different and well....and disappointing. They had a moderate selection choice and there were some appealing dishes. I ordered the Wasabi Ahi Tuna, while my friend ordered their so called Signature dish - the crab cake mac 'n' cheese. The Tuna was okay, but it was a definite first to find that my ahi fish was coated with breading. Instead of pan searing, it was more like it was an upclass fish and chips or something. As for the crab cake mac 'n' cheese, I thought it was odd that he crab cake was one whole breaded crab cake with their version of mac and cheese, without the macaroni pasta. (weird!) It's just sometimes when it feels like you are trying too hard to make something good, you are also taking away a good thing. The food was alright, but really greasy. Well, deep fried greasy. The other complaint I must ask is, nowadays, what washroom just doesn't have paper towel?"
