December 2011 — "I've tried to go to this place a number of times, but I've been out of luck more than once because it's tiny inside and just way too popular with the hipster skinny jean crowd. To be honest, this turned me off a bit -- I don't mind the crowds but being surrounded by 19-year-olds who are all trying way too hard to be cool and worldly can be a bit unnerving. However, I learned I shouldn't judge a bar by its poser crowd -- on the occasions when I've been there and decided to stay, I've actually really enjoyed it.
The decor is pretty cool -- a sort of sleek, modern, rustic look, if that even makes sense. They have a good selection of wine (which they serve in small highball glasses) but it can be a bit expensive. The food is actually quite good, and they often have great DJs. The bathrooms are usually a mess, but they've always been that way, even when the bar was called Lucky.
All in all, I like this place despite myself. I'll definitely be back."

December 2010 — "I've been away from Calgary for a few years and have come home to find that Local 510 is one of the hottest, hippest new pubs in the city. I tried to go in with friends recently and it was so busy there were no tables and no spots at the bar. The next time we went, we made sure to show up much earlier.
The bar was still reasonably busy and it's got a great atmosphere. The lighting is low and the music is fantastic. They played some of my favourite bands including stuff like Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses with some great hip hop mixed in. I think music can make or break a pub and Local 510 definitely has their tunes figured out.
Our server was pretty good, bringing drinks quickly and only letting us sit and wait for another round once. We shared the roasted garlic brie and yam fries with garlic aoili. Both were very good and it was cool to have some somewhat innovative menu items at the pub.
I can definitely see the attraction behind this pub and I can see making it a regular haunt. "

August 2010 — "I headed down to Local 510 to see a friend perform on a Sunday afternoon. I had never been to this pub so didn't know what to expect. When we arrived I liked how they had open-air seating, but we didn't sit there because the stage was inside. I found the setup of this place to be very odd. The stage is the right when you walk in, but if you want to sit and watch the band, you need to sit at the bar backwards or sit in the booth that actually has its back to the stage or sit at a large table that can seat about 10 people. We were a group of three at first, so it was a bit awkward taking up a huge table but it worked out in the end. The menu had several tasty options but I chose the burger with bacon, cheese and mushrooms. It was actually quite good. The service was good and the music was great. Not sure if I will make this place a regular hangout because there aren't very many seats inside, but it was a nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon."

A cross between a pub and lounge, this local watering hole has more than just drinks. Their varied menu carries the classic range of options including burgers and wings. A patio is popular in the summer.
