March 2011 — "This small bistro style restaurant is located in a small set back strip mall on Cadboro Bay Rd in Oak Bay. The location is not an obvious draw as you drive by but as a destination spot it is very worthy of a visit. My friend and I started with a glass of wine each and shared the charcuterie starter. This was really a lovely presentation of thinly sliced salami, cured meats, house made duck pate, which was amazing, fois gras and condiments served with bread. We each chose the duck breast dinner which was tender and nicely cooked. The diced pan roasted vegetables this was served on were not really as complimentary to the dinner as I had hoped and it would have been nice to have some fresh vegetable colour on the plate. For dessert we both chose the chocolate pate which was a slice of smooth, decadent chocolate, not too firm and not overly sweet. This was really delicious with a dollop of Greek yoghurt and a garnish of brittle with fennel undertones and a slightly burnt sugar taste with a port reduction drizzle. This bistro has a sit up bar area as well as table seating. It was a little on the cool side but the overall feeling is welcoming, not too bright with nice accents of colour in paintings displayed on the walls. I would recommend Bistro 28 as a good destination for good service, quality food that is well prepared and a menu that is not boring. "
