July 2011 — "Calgary's Chinatown district is littered with many choices for a quick and inexpensive bite to eat and one of the best and most unique is Gee Gong Restaurant. Located in the heart of Chinatown on Centre Street it is rather hard to spot for first time visitors due to an old and undecorated store front. Looking from across the street the signage is rather old and worn down. It is not a place I would have tried if not encouraged by some friends. Although I am glad I gave it a shot because this place has the best peking duck in town. It is the only item on their menu which I have tried but I keep going back for the same dish over and over again. For about $25 you can order a peking duck combo which includes a large serving of fried rice, soup, and little tortillas which are wrapped around their famous peking duck. One visit will likely keep you going back!"

October 2010 — "Gee Gong is located right on Centre Street in China Town. It has that really authentic look to it...almost like you are on some side street in a busy Chinese city. There is even meat hanging in the window, which I think is really cool. I went to Gee Gong with some friends, who swore it was some of the best Chinese food in China town. I had some wonton soup and chicken chow mein, both of which were pretty decent. The chicken was very generous and the wonton soup broth was really flavorful. We also ordered one of their specialties, which is 2 kinds of meat and rice. We had the bbq pork and the soy chicken. There was also duck available. They cut the meat off of big chunks with a huge cleaver. It was truly delicious and very reasonable in price too. I think my favorite thing about Gee Gong is that the staff were friendly and helpful, even though their English was poor. They didn't treat us differently even though we weren't Chinese. I really enjoyed the experience. The food was quite authentic and the staff were great to deal with! If you are ever in China town, stop by! "

April 2010 — "Gee Gong Restaurant must have been around for a long time and there is a reason. It is there for the taste, the sentimentality and the I guess for the selection. But it's a place where if you are a regular, you really just look past the bad decor, the grunginess of the place and just sit and eat. You enjoy the business of the other usual customers I guess. For me, as a newbie, I had some reservations. The BBQ pork and ducks and chicken hanging on the outside of the restaurant look pretty good and that is what I tried for my lunch. Just a quick dish with some pieces of BBQ duck and chicken. Flavorful and juicy and for a decent rice. I like it, but the ambiance really did take away from some of the experience for me. Mind you, they have cleaned up the place a bit, it still doesn't make me feel just all that comfortable. "

March 2010 — "Gee Gong is one of if not the oldest restaurants in China Town. They have probably been around for over 20 years. You can certainly tell when you're inside that that place does look pretty run down. That also means that their food and service is probably good enough that it kept them around for this long. Even though they might not have the fancy renovations as the newer places. Their food and prices are better than most of the newer places. They currently have a lobster and peking duck special. Only $23 for an entire lobster under 2lbs and $24 for the 3 course peking duck. So for around $50 bucks it can easily feed four people. They also have one of the best BBQ meats in Calgary, my favorites is their BBQ duck for sure. I like how they're the only place in China town now that still hangs the BBQ meats by the street window so people can see what they have without going inside the restaurant to keep the old Chinese tradition. This is a great place to bring a friend to try Chinese food for the first time."

Gee Gong is one of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Calgary's Chinatown that is easily missed if not looking for it. With decades of history behind it, it is a popular spot for those in the know. Among the many menu highlights here, BBQ is their specialty. Other dishes to try include salt and pepper squid, ginger beef, hot and sour soup and hot pot.
