April 2010 — "It seems like this is a new restaurant that constantly changes names and owners. The newest business attempt is the Tang Dynasty Restaurant (Fu Gui Men) - To me, it is a play-on of one of the newer Hong Kong series, so I was intrigued and curious enough to give it a try. It looked a little nicer and cleaner than what I had seen in the past, with a two table stage for special occasions and loads of tables for all groups and sizes. So I was pretty optimistic upon entry. We only ordered a couple of dim sum dishes, and were not overly impressed by them at all. Anything we wanted, they seemed to run out by the time it got to our table, and the dishes the servers were offering really weren't the dishes they had at all and even though there were a couple of carts circulating, they were the same ones to go around, and around, and around. This place definitely lacked the service, but I was surprised to hear one of the servers say out loud that she just didn't know what she was doing there. Maybe if the restaurant fixed the attitudes and the service, it would last. "

"Disappointing"

February 2010 — "We went to Tang's Dynasty on the recommendation of a friend, especially interested in trying their "Bo Lo Cha Siu Bao" (Pineapple BBQ Pork Bun). Knowing that it was Family Day, we were not surprised by the line up when we arrived just after noon. After being seated, we surveyed the menu (printed in both Chinese and English) and started picking items for our Dim Sum lunch. Most of the usual suspects were there on the menu and we were looking forward to eating. However, that is where things started going downhill. First, we noticed that the items that we had marked on the menu did not completely make it to the confirmation receipt. We would later find out that some of the items had already "sold out", though we were never informed beforehand. It is not petty to point this out considering that this day, a provincial stat holiday and the day after Chinese New Year, plus the fact that there was a cultural event occurring just upstairs, would be one of the busier days for them; they really should have anticipated this and not stock out on a staple like "dan tat" (egg tart). Even more disappointing was the dish that we had come specifically for also did not arrive. We weren't provided with an explanation for this, though we saw trays and trays of these buns bus by on many occasions. We ordered 18 items from the menu, for a group of 7, and only 10 arrived. The hot chili sauce that we requested as a side condiment never arrived, though we asked numerous times. An hour and a half later, we left, still hungry. We will not be returning to Tang Dynasty. "

"Horrible food"

January 2010 — "I think my title basically sums up the experience. This restaurant is located in the lower floor of the Cultural Centre. Based on recommendations, I decided to try this place with a few friends. The experience was far from good. The restaurant itself is very big. One of the weird things about this restaurant is that the table is quite a bit higher than the chair so in a way, everyone looks very short sitting at the tables and you feel almost like you need a booster seat. This is partly due to them putting a thick round board on top of an existing table to accommodate more seating but I think the chairs or the table is not the right height to begin with. Anyhow, we ordered some Peking duck, fried rice, chicken, and a pork dish. The amount of duck you get is so little, it's almost ridiculous. The food was just flat out bad. It was not hot at all and overall the quantity and quality was not there. We all left hungry and disappointed. I highly recommend you steer clear of this place."

"Peking Duck"

January 2010 — "My family came here after having a craving for Peking duck. This is located at the Chinese Cultural Center in Chinatown. It is a very large restaurant and it had quite a few patrons. This was our first time here so we were hoping to find a new place for all future Peking duck meals. Unfortunately, I do not think this will be the one. While they were able to get us the duck out fairly quickly, the waiter that carved the duck did not do a good job. He didn’t get a lot of the meat off the bones and made the slices very thick, leaving us with a small number of duck to put into the wraps. We ordered three other dishes as well. The fried chicken was dry and consisted mostly of bone. The rice that they made with the duck carcass was alright, nothing special. The price was not bad, coming in at about $18 per person. I have to say though that I was disappointed and was still hungry after we left. "

"Not the best service, but food's worth a try."

January 2010 — "This is a another new restaurant that has been at this location in the last few years. We heard that the food was ok but service wasn't great. We decided to give them a try anyways. We want there quite early to avoid the rush. It's a pretty big place and they're definitely short staffed. That's probably why the services wasn't great. But because we go the there early our food came without a long wait. The table next to us had to wait about 45 minutes for their food cause they came with the rush. They also put us in a room that has about 10 table and sometimes we'd have to go to the main area to get some service. Other than the poor service. The food was ok, I've definitely tasted better chinese food. Once thing this place does have is they have people shipping some bakery from Vancouver that a lot of us drive down to Vancouver for. Now that a local place has Vancouver bakery it'll same us some trips. Hopefully their food and service will improve so there won't be another new restaurant at this location. We don't plan on dining there again though."

BulletDescription

Located in the basement of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Calgary's Chinatown, one of Tang Dynasty's most popular offerings is their dim sum. The large space provides a lot of elbow room.
