January 2012 — "My husband and I went to Bon Sushi in the Royal Oak Plaza for the first time and loved it.
The ambience was nothing special and it was a little on the cool side but the place was clean and tidy and more about the food than anything else. The wine list consists of a house red and a house white. I had a glass of red which could have been better and my husband had a Japanese beer.
On the recommendation of friends we ordered ebi mayo as well as a fried California roll, dynamite roll, and some pieces of tuna and salmon sushi. The deep fried roll was something we likely wouldn't have again but the ebi mayo was so good we got a second order. The tempura batter was amazingly light and crispy and the prawns inside were large and perfectly cooked topped off with a drizzle of special mayo and served with a dipping sauce. The dynamite roll contained just the right balance of taste and texture. We were also impressed with the large portion of fish on the sushi pieces. Having the wasabi on the side suited me nicely as well.
We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be enjoying Bon Sushi again in the future. We felt we had great value for the money spent."

July 2010 — "We kind of stumbled across this particular sushi spot; it's sort of hidden off the main thoroughfare in Oak Bay. What a gem. It was small, but in a wonderful way. It was a lot more laid back and relaxed than the average sushi place.
Most importantly for me; there were no less than six different vegetarian rolls, some of which I haven't seen anywhere else! My favourite was the inari roll; I have never seen inari incorporated into a roll before, only served on or around a ball of rice. This was much nicer because you only get a little sweetness from something that I usually find overpowering.
The price was very reasonable; we could try one of everything we wanted and still barely broke $30 after the tip. Wonderful."

July 2010 — "Bon Sushi just opened up in the Royal Oak shopping Centre which is right near our house. We tried it out in the first week it opened and I was very happy with the food and the service. My fiancé, myself and our 2 year old daughter went after work one night during the week, I ordered the Chicken Don which is a rich dish with chicken vegetables, and egg, it was very delicious. When the order came, they had mixed it up with the Chicken Udon which is a hot soup, it also looked delicious, but it was not what I ordered. They quickly took it back to bring me what I had ordered, but I told the server that I did not wan the soup going to waste and that I would buy that too and take it in my lunch the next day, they were very gracious that I wanted to do this, however they still charged full price for the soup. My fiancé had a variety of Sushi which was also very good, however the rice was still warm, it is a good thing that the rice is obviously fresh, however it is more standard to have cold rice in your sushi, and I think that it would have been much better if that was the case. The staff was very helpful when it came to ordering for our daughter, and specialized a chicken and rice with vegetables dish that was very appropriate for a child, and was not listed on the menu. I would go again for sure, and I wish them great success in their business."

July 2010 — "This is a new little sushi restaurant in Royal Oak mall which has taken the place of another restaurant that did not make it.
I was given a gift certificate (gift cert #1) and used it with my wife and young daughter. I was happy with the food, as was my daughter surprisingly enough. The staff were great, and very accommodating, where they altered her meal to make it a bit more kid-friendly.
I had several rolls of sushi, some sashimi as well as some tempura. The tempura was very nice, you could tell the oil was nice and clean which is important. The sashimi and sushi were also good, and the food came out fast. My only negative point about the sushi was the fact that the rice was a bit warm, which I have never noticed eating sushi before. It didn't make it bad, just different. I assume it just means it was fresh and did not have time to cool before prep. I will certainly try it again!"
