May 2010 — "Calgary's choices for dim sum restaurants are slim pickings so the ones that you go to are usually ones that have something to lure you in. Pearl Garden restaurant is still known to our family as the Singapore Sam's in the NE. I don't know when the name suddenly changed, but the same food, the same people and even the same deals continue to be honored. The key number or time is 2:30, I think. That is when the cheap dim sum is on and that doesn't mean stuff that is left over from the morning, but it's just like happy hour. If you are able to wait a little while, it's a good place to get the general flavors of dim sum, but the quality is definitely not top notch. I would steer clear of the beancurd wrapped pork, which is very tough and tastes like a big block of meat. The other stuff, though not great are still passable for the price you are paying. It's nice that this place usually gives you the tea that you ask for. We usually order the pu'er with chrysanthemum tea mix. Very good. If you are in the area, give it a try. On top of the dim sum, they also make their own BBQ Pork. I'm normally not the hugest fan, but I do think that their marinate and cooking is up to par. So, this is always an option. "

November 2009 — "I went to Pearl Garden around noon with some friends to try out the dim sum. This is in the same location as the former Singapore Sam's on 32nd. In fact, nothing about this restaurant has changed except for the name. We thought we were trying out a new restaurant but I think the owners are the same as well. Anyhow, the dim sum was OK but my biggest complaint is the selection. The same 3 carts kept circling the restaurant. Since there wasn't anything to try out or eat, we all left quite hungry. I'm not sure why they don't offer more food. We were there for quite some time waiting for more food to come around. The service was comparable to any other Chinese restaurant, which is generally bad, so don't expect anything spectacular. The price was on par with other dim sum restaurants. Overall, I would not come back due to the lack of food selection."

Formerly Pearl Garden in Calgary's Northeast, Prince Seafood Restaurant is best known for their dim sum. Look for Hai Gow, scallop and shrimp dumplings, and sticky rice.
