October 2009 — "From the outside, the Fan Tan Cafe looks like many any other restaurant in Chinatown, complete with a clapboard advertising the special combos of the day, and the requisite fish tank easily visible from the window. Walking inside though, you might think you wandered into another kind of cafe. The ceilings are black and dotted with pin lights, the art is modern and the entire feel of the place a bit hip. It always seems busy, so we settled in for a quick meal one hungry night. I ordered the Shanghai noodles, one of my favourite dishes, and my partner had a "make your own combo" dinner featuring Kung Pao Chicken, Chow Mein, and Satay Vegetables. Chinese tea rounded out our menu. My noodles arrived steaming hot, generously proportioned, and absolutely delicious; easily one of the best shanghai noodles in the city. My companion's meal was extremely satisfying as well, with everything piping fresh and well seasoned. Service was prompt and attentive, despite there being only one front of house member working at the time. "
